VLOG 5: AstraZeneca Vaccine Administered. Quick update on life. Join the book club?
Переглядів 383 роки тому
Hello everyone, Just thought I would give a quick update on how I am doing. I had a cluster of tonic-clonic/grandmal seizures last week which kinda wiped me out so I left making any UA-cam videos. I have bought the book 'Awakenings' by Oliver Sacks, so for anyone interested, if you want to read that too, I will be reviewing that book in a couple of weeks so it will be fun to chat about. Also, I...
VLOG 4: Discussing PTSD triggers with a Neurologist. Recall Bias Vs Too Little Evidence.
Переглядів 1143 роки тому
Hello! So, in this video I give a quick update on how the clinical trial is going. I had a meeting with one of the neurologists who is running the trial and had the chance to ask some questions that were on my mind regarding the hallucinations, whether I have PTSD and could that be connected to my seizures. I also thought I would address some questions that were asked as people are curious as t...
VLOG 3: Do I have PTSD? Was that the trigger to my seizures? Do I need Anti-Epileptic Drugs?
Переглядів 1053 роки тому
Hello everyone, So I wanted to get a video out this week so I stay consistent. I truly want to make more videos that are much more in depth and not just me ranting on. I have some time off soon, so will probably focus then on putting together something a little more concise. Here are some links to what I was attempting to talk about. I may remake this video next week and speak about the subject...
VLOG 2: Loss of hearing, hallucinations... What does an AURA feel like?
Переглядів 1483 роки тому
I saw a post on Reddit asking what does an aura feel like so I thought I would make a video about this. I literally have them daily and they can be very intense. Reddit is a website with a wide range of internet forums which I would recommend to explore. There are many epileptics out there who share their stories within the epilepsy 'subreddit': www.reddit.com/r/Epilepsy/ which are interesting ...
VLOG 1: Forecasting epileptic seizures using a portable 24/7 EEG.
Переглядів 2113 роки тому
Hello and welcome to my channel! My name is Nadine, I am epileptic and currently going through a year long clinical trial to see whether this portable EEG can help forecast when my seizures will happen. I will be posting on here to give updates about how the trial is going and how I am controlling my epilepsy. If you are interested, please leave a comment as it would be great to hear other peop...

I was asked to take part in this study, but I am kind of unsure if I should. The main reason being the implant. Is it uncomfortable when you sleep or move your head any kind of way? On the instructions I was given it says that headaches would be frequent, is that true?

I enjoy watching your videos. I’m 28 and I started having seizures when I was 5. In middle school I got detention because I had a mild seizure in the middle of class. 😢 teacher told me I was being a class clown and thanks to that I was homeschooled. Also throughout my years and development with epilepsy, I noticed that I move slower than others and had an IEP when it came to taking test and the likes… What you said about the AURA really makes sense now. I can always tell when I am about to have a seizure because I get really lightheaded and it becomes hard to breathe. For years they told me that epilepsy had nothing to do with it, but I can tell that is my signal to call for help. EEG’s and MRI’s shows that the activity starts on the right side of my brain, but they can’t see a connection. I am also on levetiracetam and Lamotrigine. 😔 I think I gained about 30 pounds since they upped my dosage, but sadly my neurologist doesn’t believe that it’s affecting my weight. I find the type of seizures I have interesting because I would lose consciousness, but I’m still moving around and holding conversations. Knowing that there are others who experience similar types of epilepsy is reassuring. At least I know that I am not crazy.

Medlife Crisis is great, his sense of humour is impeccable. Agree with you on the research, I want to find out as much as possible myself about my strange brain. A ten minute telephone conversation with your neurologist every 6-12 months doesn't really cut it. I listened to The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks on audible. Was a while ago so I've forgotten most of it but I remember it being really interesting. Will totally join your book club, that makes at least two of us 😝

Yeah, I think he's great. Pretty cool how nowadays you can literally watch these super clever people making UA-cam videos. Even lecturers on UA-cam aswell. Who needs university eh? Haha. Did you end up getting the book? So happy someone is actually going to read too. I've bought it and it's arrived so going to start reading today! Apologies for the late reply. I was having multiple grandmals last week so took a break from UA-cam. Hope you're doing well

@@nadineshrimpton222 Yesss exactly, you can learn pretty much anything on here! Ah thanks for the reminder I completely forgot about the book. Have just ordered it along with Hallucinations which I thought sounded interesting too. Sorry to hear you've been having grand mals that's rough. Hope you're feeling better now.

Hey, I'm so sorry I never replied to this. I completely shut down from using this channel as I've been so busy with work and general life. I still haven't began the book yet, have you by any chance? I finish work for two months in a couple of weeks time so I'm planning on starting it then. I hope you are doing well anyway!

@@nadineshrimpton222 No problem at all, there's no pressure for you to be on here at all. I'm a terrible reader (English Literature degree ruined reading for life lol) so I'm only a few chapters in but finding it interesting so far.

Thanks for the video. I love hearing people talk about their seizures and how they manifest in different ways, as you say it's so unique to each individual and which part of the brain is affected.

Hey, it's alright. It's quite nice to have somewhere to talk about epilepsy because you know the people watching or commenting are actually interested, as opposed to worrying that you're bombarding your friends and family with information. Out of interest, what brought you to the channel?

It's great to know that other people out there feel the same. Honestly, if you ever need a place to talk about epilepsy just go for it, I always read my comments and genuinely find other people's experiences interesting. Thank you so much for watching my video!

Thank you, keep the videos coming. I’m going to research if any trials for the 24/7 Subq are available in the U.S. Any idea if they can detect Myoclonic seizures as well?

Hey, I'm definitely going to continue with the videos, thank you for the support. I had a read to familiarise myself with Myoclonic seizures and yes, this form of EEG will be able to pick up on myoclonic seizures too. I think I will make a video on how the device works exactly. If you don't mind me asking, are you also epileptic? If so, living in America, how do you cope with the medical appointments and medication? Can it be quite expensive?
