This is not a cult.
It almost was. There was no effective church restraint on this guy. Free speech existed for him but no one else in the congregation. If you had a hair out of place you could get whacked. He ran the place like a tyrannical third world dictator. He also mentioned during the years I was in his church how he would barricade the doors with communion tables if he was getting raided by the Feds which I felt secretly was scarry and unnecessary.
He was always on one channel or another in the 1980s.

I remember him going on a spiel for a spell about hilarious givers. A couple of times he could barely keep a straight face. We'd watch him as teens for laughs, but it is sobering that a similar crook might take over the country. Incredible how gullible and stupid peoole are.

He came on after SCTV in the middle of the night. I was around 12. Even back then, I considered him to be an extension of SCTV. Forty years later & I believe I was right.
Our pastor growing up saw him on late-night TV, Channel 38 Chicago, wearing a Panama hat, smoking a cigar, threatening to stop Bible teaching unless more donations came in, and he played "Kill a Pissant for Jesus" to get the audience going. From that, Pastor thought Scott & other Christians were nuts. God drew Pastor to Christ later. He still thinks Scott was nuts.
Used to check him out in his sharp pimp hat, smoking his cigar, blasting other TV preachers as phonies.
