This was the British version of Jan 6. They commemorate the event every time they open Parliament. The US should do likewise and ceremonially impeach Trump at the start of every Congress.

Having just read about this episode, so much of this scene is pure invention. Charles did not have to break down the door to get into the chamber. No armed guards entered the chamber with him but stayed outside.. Cromwell's name was not on the list of those for arrest, for treason, no attempt was made to arrest Cromwell, and Cromwell did not make a speech, and Charles did not at this point dissolve parliament. ....

A terrible judge of character, he had terrible political instincts, almost no friends, and was so insufferably pig-headed about his alleged divine rights that he more or less *forced* his own subjects to behead him when they presented him with 72 different opportunities to get out of it and go back to being king--you know, like everyone wanted." ~Excerpt from Mike Duncan's eulogy of Charles

charles had the right to do this, parliament was in session because the king needed money, disolving it was perfectly legal but doing so would mean the king could not rely on that income. (essentially most taxation required representation for those wealthy individuals and in other cases cities/... that could provide it, originally the king would request and these would then give it but request x or y in return often to recoup the losses or gain priviliges that would make it worth their while, they rarely declined, as time went on these estates general/parliaments started becoming permanent fixtures and they effectively lost the right to decline but disolving them became taboo as taxes and tarrifs also became permanent fixtures. the English did get much of their cheese from the republic of the 7 netherlands where the estates general held most of the power compared to England where that was the king, many who later sat in the house of commons served as commanders in the low countries against the spanish habsburg forces during the late 16th and early 17th century. cromwell is also no hero, he ended up becoming king in all but name and despite a fake puritan funeral he also had a royal one in relative secrecy and had royal symbols crafted for himself as well, he was seemingly a very "do as i say not as i do" type leader
