What's up UA-cam? Yes, this is Art Bell's old call sign; RIP. I was a huge Art Bell fan. He's one of the main reasons I got into Amateur Radio. I try and keep his call sign on the Air and as active as possible. The videos here may be Amateur radio, electronic or video gaming related. I'm not investing a lot of time in this page at this time, but might start doing more Amateur Radio post. I have a lot more content on my TiKTok. Check it out and subscribe. Thanks for stopping by.

Hey, what's happening UA-cam?
I did a very short activation on Saturday, December 7th, 2024. Only on air for 26 minutes and made 53 QSOs. About 2 a minute. I had a lot to do with the holidays coming up so they are going to be short until the new year. 73 de W6OBB

Hey, what's happening UA-cam? I apologize in advance for the quality in this video, not that my videos are high quality, but the audio in this on is terrible. That's why it's so short. I placed a mic way to close to the speaker on the radio and for half the activation, I had no audio at all. I just put a few QSOs in there because the static is ear torcher. LOL! Thanks for watching! Excellent video. It's good to see a nice positive interaction with LE that results in a happy ending for all. Keep up the good work.
Wow fantastic video thanks 73 from kb2uew
Mike, great video and congrats on your Kilo award. Where do I find the little tent you use to keep your radio out of the sunlight? Also, which rails are those on your 891? Sorry if you've gone over those items in a previous video. 73...
I don’t get to activate often, but I travel full time in my RV for work, so I get to go to some amazing places to activate. I’ve been approached by law enforcement a handful of times and it’s never been a problem. Most are curious and some even know what I’m doing and about POTA. While I wouldn’t run my mouth unnecessarily on a traffic stop, I’ll talk someone’s ear off about Ham radio. All my info is easily found behind my callsign anyway, so there is no reason to be all secret squirrel about it. They usually think it’s awesome and get a big kick out of it.
Yes, most of my interactions have been positive. Thanks for watching! I'd love to get an RV when I retire and do the same. 73
Another great video from another great location! QUESTION, u kept referencing weak internet. Is that Wi-Fi supplied by the CA state parks or was that your own hotspot??? Thx & 73
Thanks! My cell phone has a hotspot mode I can turn on, but when service is poor, doesn't work so great.
Steam coming off the antenna when you transmit. Wild. Great idea weighting down your radials. I'll have to remember that next time I try to activate at a beach. Thanks for the video!
Yeah, it's a little crazy, but I had fun with it! Thanks for watching!
I have activated and worked portable from this park many time before POTA. It’s a great location, but it can be noisy (RFI) at times… great video!! Keep em’ coming
Yes, it is a great location. Thanks for watching!
Mike, what app are you using for logging now??
Still using HAMRS. If POLO would release a PC version, I'd switch because it sounds much better, but right now, only mobile versions available. Too hard type on a phone when in a pileup. I'll be out again this weekend. Jeremy, KN6JCJ had a good time. Maybe I got him hooked. LOL! 73 Kent
It's cool you worked Chris (FSZ), I bought an EFHW from him after seeing one in use on a past video of yours. Should be extra POTA points for the aeronautical mobile, lol.
Yeah, aeronautical mobile should be it's own category. LOL! Yeah, I have a few of Chris's antennas. Excellent quality. Thanks for watching! 73
Thanks Mike. Love the activation videos. Can ask about your blue "tent" over the radio. Where is it available? Looks great for keeping the direct sun off the radio. 73

I usually do 40 meters at the end of an activation. Do you use HAM Alerts?
off topic but how well do those cheap ferrite chokes work out for you? i was looking at them and wondering if they were worth the shekels
They help a little, but nothing is better than a true 1:1 Balun. An ugly balun probably work better, too.
The more you talked the faster they wanted out lol.
That's the secret LOL!!!
Amazing setup! Happy T-Day to you.

Man, the power line noise there is absolutely horrible!
Usually it's RF quite there. The noise started up after an RV pulled in close by. I think he may have had something in his RV causing it. 73

All the years I lived down that way, I never visited that beach. Thanks for the video.
I had lived here for about 5 years, and I hadn't, either. One day, my motorcycle broke down right at the pull out. It was going to take over an hour for a tow, so I saw the trails and started exploring. I loved it. I made it my "Go To" place for POTA. Usually, I don't see anyone down there and it's very nice. Weather always about 60 degrees, plus or minus 5 degrees. I usually go down a bit further, but the spot I prefer isn't the best unless it's a lower tide. This day, the tide was too high to go there. Thanks for watching and commenting. 73
Wow, geat POTA setup. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for hunting me on 12m! 20m was definitely busy with the sweepstakes. 12 & 17 were still great for Pota though! Talk to you on down the log Mike.

One time, at US-1573 in MD, the park ranger saw me assembling my hamstick and asked me if I was "going fishing." I told him,"yes, sort of, same type of activity, you spend a lot of time and don't necessarily catch anything." He laughed and went about his business. Weeks later, a Natural Resouces police officer stopped to ask if I was working anyone. He clearly was familiar with ham radio; we spoke briefly and he moved on. Those are my only two encounters with park officials, and both were very cordial. 73, Mike K3CXG
Usually, if you're nice, they're cool. I've only had a few encounters. 73 from California!
Good job!
Thanks!

Depending on the rain, I may go out this weekend. Are you free Sat or Sun?
We were told we could not activate US-7150 Fort William Henry in Mid Coast Maine back in May 2024 because we did not obtain an activity permit with proof of liability insurance, did say we could operate from the vehicle with antennas attached to the vehicle., we passed. We have activated that park at least five times in the past without issues. 73 de KB1TCD
Did you contact anyone to get it straightened out? That's frustrating.
@@W6OBB Warden has serious issues, a few months later the YL, grandson and I where fishing at the same park, he knew better than to come talk to us! ??
the JPC is a highly compromised antenna with a loading coil so it should work worse. I find a full 17 ft whip vertical works significantly better in the off access direction of the EFHW and slightly worse in the direction the EFHW is pointing.
I recently picked up the Chameleon CHA SS25. Works great!
