"The Black Beverly Hills" -- Mini Documentary
Переглядів 61 тис.6 років тому
Black Beverly Hills from 1925 to present day. The black beverly hills neighborhoods, including Ladera Heights, View Park Winsor Hills, and Baldwin Hills are the richest black neighborhoods in the world. In the beginning, these three neighborhoods were all once all-white owned and denied blacks the right to reside. However, in the mid 60's, the neighborhood experience white flight, bringing in m...
Can someone clarify or add context to the gentleman’s statement about Jews being displaced from the neighborhood @15:10? Is he referring to white flight because if so “displaced” is an incorrect term to use.
I hate that Baldwin Hills, Crenshaw and Leimert Districts have been gentrified by people who don’t have our best interest at heart. Gentrification and immigration are detriments to Foundational Black Americans/Descendants of Freedmen.
This organelle of a cell = F for me
You forgot to mention Berkeley square the black Beverly Hills
Not without the parents manditory active involvement with homework, at every step, and these days it shoud be sex, drugs and guns
Great Video! Looking Forward to additional videos concerning Gentrification surrounding Los Angeles.
Truly a beautiful area ❤❤
Great documentary 🎉🙏🏾
I seen way more white people in Baldwin Hills than I did black.
Shout out my old neighborhood. Makes me sad. I grew up in the Dons and my Grandma lived in Windsor rest her soul. I wish I could have afforded to buy a home in my neighborhood to raise my children. Living abroad now with my family, we own a home in NL and Spain-playing the long game for now. I recently visited LA after a loss in my family, and barely recognized my neighborhood I grew up in. The plan is to flip these properties abroad and spin the block back in LA some day, rest in peace Nip. Great documentary on some real enlightenment.
Inglewood is next big bucks for home owners
How'd I miss our Crenshaw wall mural at 3:40 "Enk one",( black Panthers) "Demer one"( African dancer, fountain, Bboy break dancer, Myself "P.Chuck"( 1970's striped shirt-Locking Character) 2001 it would be great for Afterlife Films to come out and document our (R.T.N) Rockin The Nation crew next phase summer 2024!!!!
We used to live down the street from Ray Charles off Northridge n Overhill what a great time to grow up 1967- 1995 Windsor hills, Baldwin hills, Crenshaw District, view park, Inglewood, West Adam’s, south central was our play ground.
All in CALIFORNIA. Black lawyers, Black doctors live there, beautiful homes.
Yes! They should also have it at certain ages. I started to get sex education, at least, in 8th grade. In my opinion, that was the PERFECT age to start it. Grades below, especially Elementary….NO!
I think that was Sammy starting around the 3:28 mark singing Let The Good Times Roll.
I guess I was wrong after seeing the credits.
A great documentary I’ve loved Baldwin hills and view park area since I was a lil girl driving down sticker with my grandmother in the 90s
This is a really good look at the history of Baldwin Hills and all this area but why on gods or do you have to put in the background gangster rap just glorifying drugs violence I mean black people need to move past that seriously
I Just Stumbled Across This Doc. & May I Say It Was A Wonderful Cinematic Experience. As A 42 Year Old Black Man Who Grew Up In Arlington Heights I See The Same Thing Happening In My Neighborhood. Great Job Young Man.
There are many nice "Black" areas of LA I was a service worker for years there and I did fine when ever I had a call there in Baldwin Hills. I would not work in certain areas because I had trouble collecting or I was worried about having my truck stolen or my tools.
Wow, normalizing segregtion. Like wow, it still exist and people these days don’t want to talk about it or deny it. I believe we should have mixed race communities but different races don’t want to get along. MLKJR died for not much.
Raise more professionals, businessmen & politicians, not entertainers.
Japanese & German Daughter-in-laws usually just means your Sons were in the military & couldn't wait to Taste the other stuff!! 🤨
yrs Later & Blacks are Finding Out "Barry" Really didn't do much for Black ameriKka so y'all might wanna change that name back!! 🤔
Good job. There was an area called "Blair Hills, which is on the La Cienega side.
This is why we got black Beverly Hills took from us from not keeping it a secret and posting it on things like this
3:20 fine white women lol
very few talks about this .. cuz its rich blacks ... baldwin hills .. were formed cuz beverly hills was TOO white and TOO racist.. .
The horrible music does not connect to these neighborhoods. Stop the propaganda.
The Truth Now Let Us Use The Word of God and Our Power to Make Change Thomasina
Beautiful film! I'm doing research on Black neighborhoods in America and your film came up. I know this is a few years old now, but thank you for documenting this! It's incredible to see us thriving and living free. We need more people like you telling our stories, from our perspectives. 🤎
Call it what U want U can never compare it to BEVERLY HILLS 🤏 uncomparable, this couple on here should have invested in Los Feliz".... Glendale, Caucasians left for a reason and are realizing that they need to claim it again so that property value goes Up🫡.....👌Never......
Have friends who've lived up in View Park for the last 30 years. Really enjoy going up there. It's true to its name, the views of the Los Angeles basin are fantastic, especially that of downtown L.A.
Thanks for telling this history. Awesome
Sad these areas are ran by the government and the real estate agents know it.
I love ladera heights ❤
I visited recently with a friend who grew up there. Visited Leimert Park, other notable sights then lo and behold stopped to watch the police arrest a bloodied and handcuffed young man right off Central! Black of course. Onlookers were mostly non English speaking Mexicans. The hysterical mother insisted her son be taken to the hospital. Same thing, new day. Nothing will change until African Americans organize politically and economically, educate and elevate as a Black United Front. Stop assimilating. That’s not advancing us . Sure, live where you want, marry who you want but think strategically as a force to be reckoned with. Unity and privilege is how others advance. We’ve done well enough without the privilege. Unity is the key. Until then , more documentaries about the rise and fall of our communities. Aren’t you sick and tired of being sick and tired yet⁉️
Mexicano Beverly hill Downey California. We have largest black Cuban community but Mexicano s dominate. Keep it real.
Very nice video. Brought back many memories for a man who grew up in the Baldwin Hills Village Green from 1943 to 1960. I was at the grand opening of the Baldwin Hills theater in 1949 where I met Roy Rogers. On Sundays very well-dressed blacks went to the Baldwin theater for the evening shows. Otherwise, as you know the area was predominantly white. I was working at the rodeo Bowl December 14th, 1963 when the Baldwin Hills dam broke. I rescued an elderly man with my surfboard. I met Del Shannon, song Runaway, in Santa Barbara in 1983 where he performed the song at an AA convention at the Santa Barbara fairgrounds. Thanks for the memories.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Fire Video my Home Town
Gentrification is bound to happen in the black community especially with owners of the homes wanting better return on investment, we as black need to change or we are finished
Wow…..can black people have anything?
When white peoples leave a community they are monsters perpetrating “white flight” draining a community of money and resources. When they enter a community theta are monsters perpetrating “gentrification” flooding a community with money and resources.
Benee, this is for you
I remember driving through baldwin hills, Inglewood, and other parts of South and west LA back on 84 with my parents and it was literally all black...When I came back through in the early 2000s most of those areas were predominantly Latino except Baldwin Hills... Even Oakland has more Latinos than Blacks ...Its happening everywhere.
I’m blsck and I feel gentrification should happen in most of our communities because most of our communities are dangerous and we aren’t doing anything about it. Most blsck ran cities in America have the highest crime in America. We haven’t proven we can police our own communities. Our way of policing is allowing gangs to run the community. Speaking of which, a part of Baldwin Hills is rolling 60 crips territory. As nice as it looks I would never live there. Our generation celebrates the ghetto too much for us to have anything nice with low crime. Eventually every black American neighborhood has to go through gentrification. They got multimillion dollar blsck neighborhoods in Georgia and Maryland you can still get robbed and killed in. We are far from grace as a ppl even though we have the most education and wealth then we ever had. The ghetto is never far from us.
Hell I'm from Fairfield county Connecticut so Beverly hills ain't saying to much to me it's just a way of living old money verses new money ain't nar dam new
Yeah you don't have to be celeb to live in Beverly hills but you better have that money
GREAT doc!!!! I was living in L.A. during the Rodney King riots, it was so devastating to see Crenshaw and surrounding areas destroyed. The history of the area will always be prominent!!!
Excellent documentary!! I lived in Baldwin Hills in the 80's and was impressed with the blacks living in this historic area. I loved Crenshaw Blvd and the Baldwin Hills Theater and the stores.... And yes, the view from any place in the area was stupendous!!! I really miss those days and the neighborhood!!
