This video was made to help out a forum member to build his engine the proper cooling system but it may be useful for others as well. FACTS: Original owner D24t engine car got saved from the crusher then refurbished. Now it runs like a charm. IP was rebuilt. Engine got taken apart, all accessories off and all parts painted too. hi i have just enjoyed your video very much i have the volvo 900 D24 TIC AUTO 1995 model i have owned it for 24 years now it had 49000 mile on it when i got it in 1999 it now has 304000 miles , im a 71 year old carpenter i do a lot of basic maintenance on my car even all 6 glow plugs every 5 years ,i wish you lived near me in in staffordshire england , i have no one tat close too me who works on these engine at the moment my mechanic has now retired i got a mechanic to change the front cam belt .water pump, idler, and tensioner, he did not use the proper tools unfortunately he got the job done but not nice for me to witness but the engine still starts 1st time every time and runs ok so im thinking the timing is still correct , my car gets the oil and filter changed every 5000 miles by me and had no engine work done yet , it still has the same auto box i change the auto oil every 3 years myself too , it woud be good to talk to you some time ! my name is jim liddy

the water circulates the other way thru the radiator. i have worked many hours on D24tic, i thougt it circulated that way to in the begining to . and also that hose that goes from the back of the engine to the thermostat it soposed to go thru the "A/C" system . and wish you luck on you build it looks clean af
The hot used coolant enters the radiator coming from the engine through the upper hose.... cools down then it leaves the radiator through the lower hose and enters the engine ready to `heat up` again. The coolant doesnt run through the ac system. You probably mean the heating system , called `heater core`. i`ll wait for your comment.
@@ikutiap5923Wrong again, these engines circulate coolant the "wrong" way. When thermostat opens in the lower hose the coolant goes through the radiator and "cold" coolant goes back into the engine via the top hose. Hence why these engines like to overheat in the head. If the coolant was circulating the way you explained it, the thermostat would never open.

Good explanation video,but why are you running with the steering pump with out any steering fluid? The pump doesn’t get lubricated.. and then it goes bad
Is there a egr delete kit for the d24 i can purchase? Anyone here???
Looks for VW egr delete kits. Or, vw egr blockoff plate, etc.... easy to run a search. Or you can make your own plates. But do use gaskets!

Good work you done when renovated the engine! Going to put it in the same 740 body again?
Not sure yet, it`s on the stand and eyeballing a clean body. The donor shell has been scrapped unfortunately. It rusted out so bad that nothing was reusable except what I kept such as the tranny, rear end, engine, brackets, front struts and other diesel-specific parts, then the cluster, battery tray etc and various misc stuff i needed. All of those can be used to convert a gas 740-760 gas car to a td 740/760. The tranny is a zf22 automatic and currently all in storage.
Grateful kitten. Great tune.

Hi Doctor, the engine starts nicely, yes. All my diesels start like that. These vw diesels need to be set to factory specifications and treated well, then all things go smoothly. The engine was removed from a car that I bought cheap, this way it got saved from the crusher. In the us people don`t know these engines as well as people do in Europe. We had much less of the cars that were equipped with these motors.

CORRECT THERMOSTAT is 87* Celsius, not 84. You need an 87C thermostat. 80 works too.
VW turbodiesel 6cyl engine made for Volvo cars, 2.4Liter, 6cyl smooth beast. Enjoy. This one got saved from the crusher. 1985, 182000miles.
