Maxsym 600i - 22.500 Kms maintenance and reasons for a motorscooter
Long video on maintaining my Max, engine oil, oil filter, transmission oil, spark plug, squeaking issues, cooling liquid, crankcase exhaust, tire check, etc. And why I choose a motorscooter v. a motorcycle.
I combined two different videos in one, as I did the spark plug before, but since I was at it I decided to create a kind of "maintenance 101" video for the Maxsym 600i.
A few bloopers, at 00.31 I said suspension oil instead of transmission oil, and at 30.30 I indicated the wrong holes - the right ones are those without the metal clip for that specific component. I am filming with my phone so the usual finger in front of the lens. And since I need to take many shorts from a very uncomfortable position I sometimes had difficulties in finding what I want too show you, and focusing the camera right.
The advised amount of transmission oil is 330 ml.
Like, subscribe if you want, ask questions, leave a comment. I do this for fun, I am not sponsored or paid in any way by anybody. Cheers!

Lots of road, all weather, maintained myself. Not a single problem, great ride, fantastic commuting machine! A real workhorse , strong, cheap and generous.
Maxsym 600i - the windshield (everything you want to know)

Moved the windshield from the high to the low position - piece of cake. Take a look to Max without screen, it looks like a spaceship! Good built quality, good assembly, good engineering. The Maxsym confirmed to be an excellent piece of kit, especially considering its cost. Very happy with it! Highly recommended!
Maxsym 600i - 10.571 km review + discoveries

How is the Maxsym holding up after 10.000 KM? Maintenance? Discoveries? Brakes, engine, CVT? Consumption? And more... Sorry about some occasional "finger'" presence. The phone has smoothed out the vibrations I was intending to display (image stabilization), so instead of vibrating, the mirrors look like they are undulating...Never mind, it gives some idea anyway. Bottomline, yes, the Maxsym vib...
Motorcycle muffs longer term review

After a few hundreds kms, a few additional thoughts on the muffs. Bottomline, they look nasty but they are great for riding comfort in cold weather!
First 100 KM with muffs!
Not freezing, just for the change, but not warm too! Muffs are doing an excellent job! Look terribly dorky, but boys they are comfy! heating on 3 (max is 4) and no issues whatsoever with cold hands. A bit funky to push buttons and levers with bear hands, quite complex with gloves... but serious difference! Away from the wind, away from the cold. Cheers!
Maxsym 600i: Results of 7K check, breaks test, new muffs, saddle info, etc.
Had some fun fitting handlebar muffs! Also 7K check results, changed oil and filter, tested the disk brakes (they are good), some info about the saddle (and why it's smarter than what it looks), fuel cap, etc. Landscape video this time, nice day, no wind but loads of people and noise around. It's not easy to make a "real experience" movie LOL!
Riding gear - ready in 2!

Gearing up for a ride? In this video I will show you what it means in practice, the full process with a few tricks. It takes 2 minutes to get geared up, one minute to take off the gear. Unbeatable v. finding a parking place for your car, paying for parking, walking to the office, etc.!
Motorcycles and... shoes!!!
The right shoes for biking, the wrong ones for dropping the bike - simple! Half boots are the best compromise between walking and riding! The safest shoes for riding are proper motorbike boots. In some jurisdictions, the use of approved motorcycle clothing and shoes might be compulsory. Check your local laws and regulations.

I bought a second hand 2017 Maxsym 600i. I don’t have a manual though. How does the heater grips work? Is it automatic? Or do I need to set a switch.
Hello Francesco, have you replaced front and rear break pads? do you have a video doing it?
in my case, I more warning about vibration on high load, 130-150 kmh. My kymco 500i not so comfort at 140 km/h. I feel that motor work near on limit.
I know it is super old. Hope you are getting well.Have you tried it with a syringe to add the transmission oil.
Max still rocking, thanks! I tried with a syringe, but it takes forever. Also my system takes a long time, but it requires very little effort. It works for me... Cheers!
@@francescometalli1004what’s the mileage nowadays?
I am in the plan of getting one used in white, already have the Citycom300iCBS
Brilliant, now I know how to eradicate the buzz coming from my windscreen. All the best from sunny South Africa.
I have the maxsym 300i and even though its pretty great in the city it might struggle a bit on the mountains with my partner. Have you tried it with another person on an uphill? Is it ok or you thing it will struggle? The one am planning to buy has a 33.000 km already. Thanks in advance
Hi! No mountain here to climb, it's pretty flat. And I own a 600, so I wouldn't know... But just guessing, a 300 could struggle. A 600... No, unless in very severe circumstances. If you plan regular trips on mountains, I would look at something bigger than a 300, that's really made for cities... Cheers!
@@francescometalli1004 thanks for the quick reply. Actually, I already have the 300i but am looking to upgrade, and my options are either a more expensive maxsym 500i with 3 cylinders or a cheaper maxym 600i with one cylinder..
@@chrtofirosI would personally go for the cheap option. But that's just me. The two scooters are very different... It's all about what you need, what you want, and what you can. Cheers!
Hi do you have a link for the sliders?
Unfortunately no. The local business I used at the time went bust. Good luck, I'm sure you will find a way
A very informative video. It adds to a regular review, where you can get info about power, fuel consumption etc.of tipical tests, but not from a real life user experience.
Thanks!
How many kilometers can the enjin endure, I just bought one with 24 500km on the clock. Regards. Johan. South Africa
@@johanfourie7616 100.000 or more. I have seen 125 sym jet14 with 100.000!
Hello Max Looking for some advice, got the exact same scooter as you and love it. Sadly the fuel gauge is not so accurate, ran out of fuel a couple of times. Will not start now, changed plug, battery fused ok. Any ideas buddy
Hi there. Yes, fuel gage suxx big time simply because the fuel tank is asymmetric. I think I mentioned that in one of my videos. Yours does not start, despite maintenance.... It is supposed to, if fuel plus oxygen plus spark occur at the same time. If I were in your shoes I would bring it in for some diagnostic at a reputable garage. It might cost a few bucks, but you could possibly doing the fixing yourself. Just an idea. Cheers!
How much liter of oil does it need?
Approx. 2 liters

Anyone had problem with oil consumption? How did you solve the problem? I'm thinking of trying 20w50 amsoil.
Hi! No problem whatsoever here... Cheers!
Anyone had problem with oil consumption? They told me from the dealer that you need to check oil level every 1000km. I'm thinking of trying 20w50 amsoil. Has anyone solved this problem?
Fuel pump relay location?
Hi. I don't know... Never had to work on it. Pretty sure it's on the maintenance manual, you can find it on Internet. Cheers!
How about parts prices in your country. In my country is a mess. 200 euro for belt and more 40 euros for rollers . I think Sym overprice a lot the overhaul services . Not even BMW screw clients like that.
Prices are high overall I'm afraid. But I doubt BMW prices are any better. It might depend indeed from the country, but here BMW components are absurdity level price. Better times will come! Cheers!
Can you please make a video on how to change brake pads on this maxsym?
Hi Mostafa, I will as soon as I will need to. For the moment, break pads are just fine though! Cheers!
Nice and honest review, I have a 2002 burgman 400 and looking for a bigger scooter. Can you tell me how many km's you can do with a full fuel tank ?
Hi Stefan, thanks! Around 250 on the highway and 200 in the city, max. But it depends on how you ride. Cheers, Francesco
good evening, I also have a maxsym 600i 2014 myself, but I do not want to start now, starter motor or start rails are broken, all ok, I cannot find a starter motor on the internet, do you have an address for me, thank you very much
Hi M, I'm sorry but I don't. I would get in touch with Sym about it if I where you. Good luck, cheers!
Wonderful bike, I'm getting a 2020 model, I hope buy it this week.
Hi Francesco! How often do you carry a passenger, and can you then easily still cruise at highway speed?
Hi Jacques. I don't carry a passenger often, but I did it a few times. I could cruise at highway speeds with zero problems. Acceleration was also still fine. I doubt that the Maxsym will ever underperform. Its engine is really very generous. Cheers!
Thanks for share your experiences! Have you had any problem with the tractiin of bike? Do you think nota having traction control could be a problem or dangerous?
Hi Javi. Not at all... The bike is very powerful but even pulling it to the max it's not going to get you in trouble... Unless you ride it in a way that goes beyond what the bike is made for. Just a bit of common sense will do. Cheers,
@@francescometalli1004 thanks you Francesco!
you do the valve adjusting yourself? As it is SOHC with locknut it should be easy to do but is it wel accessible? My choice for a honda CBX 500 fell off because of this job ( you need to remove all the electrics on top of the cilinder head.
Hi. I didn't need to adjust the valves yet... The cylinder head is not easy to access. For that kind of ops I would probably ask an expert. Too risky to mess up, and it needs instruments I don't have. Cheers!
Great review Francesco, it's a great maxi scooter. Just bought one mine is called the "beast" it's wicked fun 😈😈
Hi. Your clips are great. one question: Can the head lights be adjusted?
Apologies for the late reply... Not sure actually, did not check. But I would assume so. Cheers!
Very helpful review.
Do you know how to change the coolant?
You made me love MAX before trying it 😁
How do I turn the "check oil" light off
I am interested in buying one of these Sym Mxsym 600i abs scooters. My question is regarding Top boxes and pannier choices available for this spesific scooter..
So strange
I know this was two years ago but now in the UK🇬🇧 you can’t buy parts for the sym maxsym even from main sym dealerships. Sym simply not supplying parts for the foreseeable future 😢😢 but still a great scooter👍👍🇬🇧
Hi Wayne Spare parts are hard to get for everything nowadays... But I think things should get better once the "supply chain" issues have been solved. Looking forward to that myself. Cheers!
Good day, firstly I have to give you a hi-5 on your presentation video of the scooter. I bought one and had a few concerns with regards to vibrations etc. However you cleared it all up with your insightful video. All the questions I was looking for was answered clearly. When I bought the scooter I felt very comfortable with my buy, and yes I agree with you that I am blown away with what they had to offer on this scooter. I would gladly recommend this scooter to anyone. Once again a word of thanks for your video. 🙏🙏
Thanks Ernest! Glad it was useful! Enjoy the scooter, it has a lot to offer! Cheers!
Watched all your vids on the maxsym 600i so I bought a 2016 with 15,000 miles £2k. Cracking scooter love it. Thanks for the videos 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed the videos! It's a smashing scooter! Love it too! Cheers!
Great videos👍 quite rare in the UK & I’m 6f7 tall so hope I’m comfortable 🇬🇧🇬🇧👍
Thank you! Best bet is a test ride. You will see in minutes if it's good for you! Cheers!
Very well done!! You make me doubt about my choice for my next scooter!
Hi Francesco. What sort of gloves do you wear inside the muffs if any? I'm assuming not full motorcycle glove based on what you said about feeling the controls so I presume this could be a drawback in terms of hand safety. Also do you think if you were to crash (God forbid) having your hands inside these muffs would compromise your ability to put your hands out to protect yourself? Is there any chance they would be stuck in the muffs? Many thanks in advance :-)
I have two pairs of gloves, one light and one heavy. None of them are full motorcycle gloves. I don't like those as they are quite stiff and I find them uncomfortable. I can pull my hands from the muffs in split seconds, I did it many times. And the chances of getting stuck are minimal. The main advantage of the muffs is keeping your hands warm and their sensitivity untouched... I rode with temps just above zero centigrade and I could experience the effectiveness of them. I doubt any glove could achieve the same, finger tips typically become very cold and the polses are eventually suffering as well. For me, muffs are a really good solution. But it depends very much on riding styles and on what motorcycle they are used. Cheers!
@@francescometalli1004 thank you so much for taking the time to reply
Muy buena reseña. Gracias
Hi Francesco. Well done for the great videos. I bought recently a used one (19000 km model 2017 special edition) and thinking of replacing the rollers with dr. pulley. As for fuel consumption have you done any measurement? What's the difference with the original ones? How many litres for 100 km? I had previous experience with dr pulley sliders on a Sym Citycom (300cc) and indeed it takes off the motorcycle and the driving experience but increases consumption close to one liter (20-25%) per 100 km.
Hi E D. Unfortunately I didn't make new measurements, also because my travelling changed. I used to do a lot of highway, but due to covid restrictions I couldn't anymore. However, my current riding, mostly city and intercity, delivers a 220 km each full tank. Extrapolating from previous results, my guess is the difference, if any, is quite small. The trick to save fuel remains in the way a vehicle is used, and max loves acceleration, but at a cost. Full gas at a stoplight leaves everyone in the dust, but it's not economical at all. Cheers!
Hi Francesco, I've owned a Maxsym 600i sport abs for the past 3 months. Have only managed to ride it a few times due to covid restrictions, but already I love the bike and the ease of riding. I owned a 700 Honda Deauville prior to this and although it was a great bike on the motorway, it was hell to ride in traffic. Having a 5 speed manual box, it was rattly and indecisive when travelling at low speed. Consequently I lost enthusiasm for riding it unless I was hitting the motorway. I owned a burgman 400 before that and loved that bike too. I much prefer the low level gravity and the easy ride laid back style these scooters offer. My Maxsym is a 2018 model with just 5500kms. You mentioned vibrations and I am feeling quite a bit of vibration so I may try changing the rollers in mine too see if it makes a difference. So this video showing you changing the rollers on yours w very helpful even though I did it on my burgman. The setup is virtually identical so shouldn't be a problem. You're the only English speaking maxsym owner I've come across on UA-cam so am very grateful for your hints and tips. Keep up the good work and don't change your bike for another make yet. Regards, Phil
Hi! How is the scooter with the 16 gr sliders after all this time ? Does the limit speed (160/170 km) maintains? Thanks for the videos.. i have a similar maxsym 600i.
Hi! The sliders do fine, but don't know about max speed. Here limit is 100 kmh, and frankly I wouldn't go as fast as 160 on a scooter anyway. Small wheels... Cheers!
Can I ask you about the drive belt? All belts I can find for sale are marked for 2011-2015 models. Are they ok for 2016? or they are different belts for newer models?
I'm not sure actually... You should look at the specifications for the belt itself, particularly size. If that fits, then it should be okay. Cheers!
Of all the good things you showed us you forgot something which I believe is also very important, Keep you bike clean and wash it down once in a while.
Nice informative series of videos on the SYM MaxSYM 600i. I think the reason your Max's engine is running a few hundred rpm higher at cruising speed is because the sliders you fitted are intended for the 400i which, logically, should run at a higher rpm than the 600i at any particular cruising speed. My search on Dr. Pulley for sliders for 600cc engines failed, the list ending at 400cc.
Could you please tell me what cooling liquid you use for cooling system. What colour?
I'm using a commercial simple anti freeze, I think cyan coloured. Cheers!
I have one and have just bought one of the last in germany as the idiots of Sym can't be bothered to build them anymore. How stupid can one be
Hi Francesco thank you for this interesting vídeo. Do you still have the motorcycle?, what about the oil consume?
Hi Francesco, what's the latest with the Sym, any updates with how it is - do you still have it?
Sure I have it, went for a ride a few days ago. I want to make a new video soon... You will see! Cheers!
I look forward to catching up and hearing the latest on your Sym
