I feel like Borg and Lendl took tennis on another level with their swings, top spin and overall professionalism. It looks different from Laver etc. I don’t know how to put Connors and McEnroe in. Connors was a great fighter, but I never liked his style. McEnroe is somehow in his own domain. But is it tennis? And yes, the three holy kings Federer, Nadal and Djokovic would not give a single game to these two here, if they could use their modern material and shoes. And I wonder whether Swiatek, the Williams and Henin could beat Borg and Lendl. Modern material enables us to play a different kind of tennis.
Ah yes, more from that "weak era". Gonzo had a strong record against almost all players except Federer.
Hasta la ropa era mucho más bonita esos años.
Erection war 😅
This level was even higher than his 2017 reborn form, the movement and footwork, the shotmaking just casually making winners left and right.
Very Quick take Step
Obnoxious players… It is a joke that it is still allowed (vide Sabalenka)
This is so so sooooo Boriiiiing! BUT ITS A GOOD WAY TO FALL ASLEEP
Just listen to the music of Borg's racket. Can anything be harder strung than that? (In those days.)
I remember this match. Marcos played as beautifully as Roger.
This may have been Federer's greatest comeback in a major final. Baghdatis was a proven winner at this point and would begin his legendary career! He never made another major final but he gave the big 3 so much trouble over the years. Remarkable talent and his mental toughness is what sticks out to me the most!
That’s your little glory day Vicka! Ty sharapova to make me win 😂
C'est vrai que ça allait moins vite. Le matériel était moins tolérant. Ce n'était pas moins intéressant. Quelle volée amortie de Borg, qui enchaînait avec Wimbledon. A l'époque, on le suivait dans la presse papier.
That point at 9:02 is one of my favorites ever. Gonzalez put every ounce of energy and will into it, and it took all of Federer's skill, guile, and athleticism to finally finish it.
Where winners
You cant out slice Federer
0:19 beautiful rally
If you mute the speakers…
Brilliant Rivalry Maria and Victoria......Maria was unlucky having Serena in the scene!!
gonzales played insane here. its like federer was wersome to win this against the slicer
Speak English
hiếp dâm
As far as i'm concerned, Federer already past his prime in 2007. This is the year where he started to change his forehand technique to a smaller swing to minimize movement and make it more consistent on the rally, he lost the fire he had in that shot on the autel of modernity. I'm not even talking about his game style, started to be much more defensive after.
quentinhirschifeld he is better her er then the 2006 us
@@Liamnerfdude1 He played well, but his forehand was already starting to lack
dude i cant see it its still so great@@quentinhirschfeld9382
Past his prime at the old age of 26 😂😂😂😂😂
the autel? what
This player right here, in this thumbnail is my favourite player of all time. Majestic to watch and an absolute joy. He may not have the most majors but he made me feel a way that was indescribable. Thank you, Roger.
A Courier Becker final would have been much better.
Sounds like fireworks going off
Maria Sharapova super stars world tennis women!!!❤❤❤❤❤
It always surprised me how poor the level was back in those days ... I mean an top-10 player now would just beat up both of them, easy.
Give any of the top-10 of today the rackets in use in 1981 and see how their play would change. Borg & co were playing at the best their tools allowed - Borg was a top notch athlete with a very modern approach to tennis.
@@enricoself2256 yes I know ... but it's like I dunno ... should we even compare? And what if we gave to those guys modern rackets, would they be able to handle them like Federer or Agassi?
@@hadrianos1 The players themselves say it makes no sense to compare: some players born with wooden rackets would later adopt modern rackets (McEnroe, Lendl and even Borg !) and they were successful for some years (not Borg actually), but they were overwhelmed by the new generation of players born with "modern" rackets who had a completely different game style. When I was a kid in the 80's I had the occasion of playing with wooden rackets and it is incredible how harder tennis can become. Those players were making miracles with what they had.
@@enricoself2256 well yes, I understand what you mean. We basically have 3 ways to look at it: 1. Compare era by era. 2. Compare just the titles. 3. Compare the overall skill no matter the rackets, etc (I mean if I'm good with the sickle (much harder to collect wheat) and my neighbor is good with a tractor ... my neighbor will produce more and therefore is a better farmer ... right? I do think so, in a way.
@@hadrianos1 Comparison in tennis are hard because the tools and the rules changed (balls and surfaces) over the years. Also before the official ATP classification established in the early 70's, there were pro's and amateurs playing in different tournaments. A Paris open won in the 50's has a different weight that the same tournament won in the 80's 90's or nowadays. As for style, up until the late 70's, it was mostly serve&volley, all shots were slower and it made perfect sense to win the points at net, winning point from the baseline was harder; Borg was the exception to the rule as it was mostly a baseline player and as such it is one the first playing with "modern" style.
You have to keep the volume down…
Remember when people used to complain about Monica Seles? Ah, the good old days
Beautiful.
Fully agree, too loud.. I would never watch a game of these two players.....this is ridicolous
Kinda. 4th. Of July tennis. Fireworks everywhere.! Great serves from both player's. Likewise. From baseline. Both guys played with Enthusiasm & Passion.!! Why such a Great.! Rivalry. Decade's later. Imo.
6/0🤣🤣🤣🤣
🪄
Whoooooo whoowwww uwwwwww wowwwww arggghhhh wooooow
Borg was incredible , steady as a rock and superfast
Perhaps the best reception and quality of this match on you tube. It's a shame that the match is not in its entirety.
What a fantastic win! I was 16 and Becker was my hero!
Becker player this final so controlled and assured to win it from the first second on. A little break in the third set but these other 3, there were chang without a chance.
The Ultimate grunt match would be a women's doubles match up between Maria Sharapova and Venus Williams v Monica Seles and Victoria Azarenka
😂😂😂😂😂
And Sara sorribes Tormo.
I love good rallies. But it is irritating when two players grunt so loudly. It is Tennis, not kung-fu for Pete's sake!
We need ear plugs
I guess, Tim‘s last final.

Even that they screaming u have to admit that the level was pretty high not as we witness nowadays flat fore/backhands all the way
stunning not louding
How awful is it to watch the loudest and most distracting shreikers / grunters of all time. Good players but not sad Sharapova is retired. Azarenka will hopefully retire soon too..
Sharapova living her best life with her baby boy ! You won’t ever have to worry about her playing
