Now about me.....
Model making happy amateur/enthusiast who builds models and dioramas on a budget but adding my own flair too.
I enjoy the hobby of building models, have done since I was a child many decades ago, and I've added this youtube channel to my hobby to bring a little added extra to it all
During the videos, some of them anyway, I'll fit motors, LEDs, household everyday stuff into the builds to bring them to "life"
All with the addition of laughing at myself whilst doing the above 🤣
😂
I hope you enjoy these videos as much as I have making them 😁

After a few weeks of pottering around with the finest from Airfix, here's my completed Battle of Britain diorama It's not perfect, I know, but all said and done, I'm quite proud of this build I hope you enjoy this video and have enjoyed all of the build videos leading up to this final episode of the mini series Cheers 😁😁
Airfix ME109 (Battle of Britain Dio part 4)
Переглядів 22514 днів тому
I thought to myself has anyone ever built a Diorama to fit into another, larger, diorama? Well, if it's not been done here's my effort My version of a BofB ME109 crash scene for my ambitious Battle of Britain Diorama series I hope you enjoy the video 😁
Airfix Spitfire Battle of Britain Dio Part 3

I'm a little disappointed with the hurricane, so I've gone all out with a Spitfire! Big ideas (and little talent!) for this build 😂🤣 Hope you all enjoy this one 😁
The broken Hurricane 😒
Переглядів 7028 днів тому
I've decided not to keep the Hurricane on the BofB diorama as the intention was to have all of the aircraft to have spinning props or such However, no way is it to be delegated to the bin!!
Painting pilots - am I getting better?

Always been a dud when it comes to painting pilot figures..... But, am I getting better??
Airfix Hurricane (Battle of Britain dio part 2)
Переглядів 455Місяць тому
Building the Airfix 1:72 Hawker Hurricane on this video to chase the pesky Dornier Do 17 away! This is a lovely kit to build, definitely a firm favourite of mine along with the Airfix 1:72 Spitfire, Mustang and Tomahawk Unfortunately, this build didn't go completely to plan. I'll not ruin the plot, ruin the surprise at the end 🤣😂 Anyway, enjoy the video 😁
Airfix Do17 (Battle of Britain Dio Part 1)
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Місяць тому
The D-Day diorama, from last year, got me thinking that I could (and should!) do better So, with this video series I'm attempting to do a Battle of Britain Diorama with a few models and, of course, my own special electronics too This video is part 1 and it's the Dornier Do17 from Airfix Hope you enjoy this as I certainly enjoyed making the model and video 😁😁

1:48 Airfix Spitfire Vs Tamiya V1
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Місяць тому
Trying to keep a long story short.... I part built the Tamiya V1 a while back but sort of lost interest in it.... Then, an Airfix £10 mystery box gave me a 1:48 Spitfire so one thing led to another....... Now, I know it's the wrong mark Spitfire (post war) and the V1 didn't have Luftwaffe markings on it but, as I had bits around to use up, I thought to hell with all the historic stuff and just ...
Revell small, small, smaller 747 😁

Saw this "cute" little kit on eBay for pennies so thought I'd take a chance & have a go at it Glad I did as it's a fun kit to build, in that, it really tested my eyes and overly large sausage fingers 😂🤣 Hope you enjoy the video 👍
Aldi/Airfix Cromwell

Shopping at a certain supermarket this time of year certainly has it's hazards! Picked up this little gem of a model whilst doing the weekly shop. It's a cracking little kit well worth the few pounds I parted for it! Used only the Humbrol pot paints on this whether by brush or airbrush Let me know what you think!! 😁😁😁😁😁
Revell 1:72 P47 Thunderbolt
Переглядів 1,2 тис.2 місяці тому
It's always good to get back to basics after a few complicated projects so here's my version of the Revell P47 Thunderbolt Not had a P47 in my collection so it's nice to add one to the cabinet for display Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video Cheers 😁
HMS Belfast (part 2)
Переглядів 1832 місяці тому
Finishing off the Belfast by setting the model ship into a frame, using resin and other stuff to create a sea diorama I've tried to represent the ship off of the coast of Normandy - please allow for the issue of scale to the beach. I'm using what I've got to make this diorama happen! 😁 Anyway, I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did finishing this build project off 😁😁
HMS Belfast (part 1)
Переглядів 2602 місяці тому
I started this model a few years back & I've finally decided to finish it..... My first ever attempt at a ship and I'm going to say, blowing ones own trumpet here, I think this not a bad attempt!! I hope you enjoy this build video, part 1 of a big project, and let me know what you think in the comments Cheers 😁

Airfix 1:72 FW190 (Dogfight Double)
Great diorama :)
@@charlesdawson2277 Thank you. Inspired me to do another. Watch this space...... 🤣😂
Arr, the smell of butyl acetate, cyanoacrylate, benzene, toluene, xylene, ethyl acetate, acetone and turpentine are what memories are made of. Work colleagues can be inconsiderate illegitimates at the best of times. The anticipation was worth the wait, brilliant!! "cùm iad a’ tighinn"
@scarfskerry The best smell, to me, is the old Castrol R track side at Brands Hatch back in the day when I were a lad 🤣😂 As always, your comments raise me a smile. Cheers 👍
Its the new Bob Ross! its ok I am fluent in utter Bo**o**s to lol
@manorman01 I did start waffling on a bit there, and when I watched it back, I couldn't help but think "what a load of b@ll@cks!" 🤣😂 Gave me a giggle, and I decided to leave it in there as I thought it might raise a few smiles 😃 😊
nicely done! that dornier isn't going to get away!
@philsmodelmaking2260 thank you! I would have preferred the Hurricane, but me and my butter fingers..... 🙄
Just watched this again, funny couldn’t remember about 25% of it (old age creeping up), nice work though and useful instruction. Love the anticipation of what’s coming next. "cùm iad a’ tighinn"
Nice work! It's going to look great when it all goes together.
@ianthomson9363 thank you 😊
nice dio! it may surprise you to know that at the duxford air museum they have a similar diorama to yours, but its a genuine 109 that crash landed here during the battle of Britain, and the display is made to look like a photograph of it in a field, taken a few hours after it crashed!
@philsmodelmaking2260 Thank you for your kind comment. I'm planning a trip up to Duxford at some point this year, so I'll look out for this one for sure 😁
Please tell me what you search on to buy these Amazon wooden bases. I have this kit and am planning to build it as a diorama. I intend to use scatter material to enhance the base and pierced steel planking
No problems and no doubt you'll do a better job than me! Belle Vous Unfinished Wooden... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B081X5DFJX?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
great build but i have 1 question, do you use any primer cause it helps to let the paint stick to the model so you have a better result
@VicWannijn Thank you for kind comment Yes, I now use Hycote spray can primer now. The problem I have, and what I think you're seeing, is that it's very cold in the shed overnight and during the day. I do have a heater in there on a timer, but the recent cold snap has likely outdone its little 700w element!
@@HPaulModels oof, i have the same problem, and when i do my decals the water gets so cold so quickly
Genius! The Do17 has no chance with a couple of Spits on its tail. You’ve done a fantastic job with these 1/72 kits, great imagination!
Thank you. I do sometimes let my imagination vs skill vs fumbling get the better of me though 🤣😂
Great build, love the spinning props. I’m going through a phase of building aircraft in-flight & will now be adding the Do17 to the list. Thanks for the inspiration!
I'm glad you enjoyed the build. I must confess I do like adding these small features. Doesn't really make up for the Hurricane (as this is my favourite BofB fighter), but it should look good behind the Dornier
Blinky blinky guns and spinney spinney propellers, well done sir, is there no end to your imagination and all in a duo of Spitfires. Another very entertaining video, brilliant "cùm iad a’ tighinn".
@scarfskerry thank you! I'm still disappointed about the Hurricane, but I think a couple of Spitfires is nearly there
The flashing LED for the guns is a stroke of brilliance! I've never seen this on any other models.
Thank you, Ian. I did something similar years ago for a good friend for his 50th birthday with a Spitfire and a 109. I thought I'd do it again for this video as, well, why not? I do like & enjoy the challenges I set myself. Sometimes, like the Hurricane, it goes a bit askew, but when it works, I do get that feeling of accomplishment 😁
🤔We await its replacement 😊
Uploading this very evening 😊
Aye
I need to try better with their faces.....
Yes.
Taking your advice helped a great deal. Thank you! Learning patience helped too 😂🤣
@@HPaulModels I'm glad you found it useful. I have almost infinite patience, which is probably why my builds take so long!
I like your micrometer! A nice big display for us oldies. I agree with you about the markings needing a bit of dulling down- I've started doing this recently and it works very well. I'm sorry the Hurricane had a bit of a prang- is there any way to rescue the spinning prop?
Unfortunately not. I tries numerous ways but, alas, the Hurricane is a casualty of my fumbling fingers As for the measuring adjustable spanner 🤣😂 I picked that up from Ebay I think and it was a bargain at around £10
What happened I was gayly watching Papa Smurf building a Hurricane with extra spinney spinney things, when it all changed, a ham-fisted sod took over. Joking aside really felt for you, after time and effort to drop it! Still it remains a very good build of a Hurricane, “Per ardua ad astra”. Another very entertaining video, brilliant "cùm iad a’ tighinn".
@scarfskerry I took that video several hours after I dropped the Hurricane. Believe me, my usual cripes and crikey were not voiced at the time of the droppage!! Thank you, I am pleased with the way the model turned out and it does look good with the Dornier too Hopefully, the next build in the series will have a less of a mishap!! 😁😁
That's a better kit than the one I built as a lad, there's much more detail. I like the way you added the support. I'm old school- I call them transfers!
@ianthomson9363 I'm in agreement Transfers it is! 😂🤣
If they are waterslide or pressfix they're transfers: if they're self adhesive they are decals or stickers. Others may disagree but, of course, they are wrong 😀. Best wishes.
I recall them being referred to as transfers when I were a lad back in the 70s and they'd be in a cereal packet or bubble gum stick. Crikey, I'm getting old 🤣😂
Nice work on the Airfix Dornier. Great paint job too! Is there going to be a couple of 111 Squadron Hurricanes attacking the Dornier? If I remember rightly, Rudolf Lamberty's Do 17Z was attacked by Sgts Dymond and Brown of 111 Squadron. They also took a Bofors round through the wing which ignited the fuel tank. The low level raid on Kenley by 9/KG 76 on the 18th August has always interested me. Alfred Price's book about that day is well worth a read. My copy is signed by Gunther Unger, one of the other Do 17 pilots on the raid that day. He ended up ditching in the channel on the way back and only just managed to escape the aircraft when it was already submerged. Looking forward to the rest of your diorama!
Thank you for kind comments and the history too. I've always found the personal stories the best accounts of the era and I enjoyed your account. As for the Hurricane.... now that would be telling 😀😂🤣
And a Happy New year to you sir. I cannot remember having built the Dornier, must rectify this oversite 🤔. I am in the transfer camp, as you transfer them from the backing card to the model, and as fake/imitation tattoos and model transfers are made from the same materials and imitation tattoos are called transfers, you also apply them in the same way, so stands to reason they are transfers, you don’t decal your body. Just out of interest what is the wire you use; I presume it has some form of shellac coating. Again never heard of or tried the old RYO paper for masking, bravo for showing and having a go. Well-built model, and a very entertaining video, brilliant "cùm iad a’ tighinn".
Me too - they were transfers when I were a nipper and I think they're still the same. The RYO papers do seem to work well for this first attempt, I'm convinced but I think I'll still do allied aircraft camo freehand- I like to use my flair! Thanks again for your kind comments, more videos coming soon as I think this Battle of Britain series is going to keep me occupied for a while yet 😀
Sorry, I forgot about the wire. It's 0.5mm varnished wire that's used in small transformer windings. I've had the reel for years but I found something similar on Ebay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/364435197755?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=8fkfb0aorek&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=l_m_l2iuqfq&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
@@HPaulModels , many thanks for the information, and finding it on eBay!
Excellent,great sense of depth.👍🏻
Thank you, I needed a way of representing the height and gave this a try. Sort of works 😂🤣
Looks impressive! 👏🏻
Thank you!
Looks great.
Cheers, I wasn't expecting this level of finish from a Revell model but it turned out to be a rather good kit 👍
Nice model!
Thank you!
Happy new year to you, just ordered the Dornier from watching your build thanks Nick
Thank you for your comment. Its a great kit and a fun build. Enjoy 😁
very cool! where can i see all the other colour scheme references(18:20)
The book by Bill Gunston is a great source of inspiration for me - I think it's available in the Waterstones book shops. Google might reveal more schemes too but, honestly, for my choice I do enjoy a book 😁
thank you! ive just ordered the hawker hurricane model as a little christmas present for myself. will definitely look into the book for some beginner friendly colour schemes 😁
Cool ✈
Thank you, took a bit of fettling but I'm pleased with the result 😁
Cool models. ✈
Thank you 😊
@@HPaulModels Merry Christmas
Great build and presentation
Thank you 👍
Fun quick build. Great nostalgia factor. Bill
Thank you - I confess I have purchased a Tiger and a Sherman recently. Looking forward to those too 😁
Very nice! Great job!
Thank you 😊
great job,love it!
Thank you!!! 👍
Only bit of criticism is that there were no bubble top Spits in invasion stripes chasing V1s. High back Spit XIV, Spit XII, Spit IX. Nice work otherwise.
Yeah, I know it's the wrong Mk Spitfire but fortune favoured my imagination 😁😁
Well done, really like this build, love the depth perception by using the launches in a different scale. Love the usual inuendo loaded commentary. What the hell if it’s the wrong mark of spitfire, it’s the joy of creating and using the hobby as an aid to recovery, if it makes you happy do it! That said it would be a step to far to have used a Supermarine Walrus to tip the V1! Brilliant "cùm iad a’ tighinn".
I had to try it and I think it turned out okay It'll definitely look good at work on top of the filing cabinets! 😄😄
Great effort, Paul. Imaginitive and a very good result!
Thank you. I'm rather pleased I must admit 😄😄
Patience of Joab, had me laughing watching you trying to pick-up the undercarriage bits, just the thought of it with my shakes makes me chuckle, never mind, well done sir "cùm iad a’ tighinn"
Thank you - I did laugh at myself with this bit of the build. Trust me, the undercarriage/landing gear was much worse 😂🤣
That's a very elegant method of lighting it! I looks good.
Thanks Ian, I rather like it too. I'm surprised at just how good it looks 🤣😂
Just about to finish the same model mate. What a pain the undercarriage has been, jeez I came close to chucking in the bin 😂. You made a great job of that. I myself will stick to 1 72 scale in the future 😂. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for your kind words - this is a tiny scale for sure. Really testing to be honest. But, all said and done, this is still an enjoyable model to build 😁😁
So, you went there to get cheese, instant coffee, sweets for the family who will visit over Christmas and 5 pairs of worksocks but came away with a tank........... Gotta love Aldi (and Lidl)
I had a list, honestly, but it got lost between the car and the door of the shop 🤣😂
Could have been worse , you could have come out with a canoe
A simple build, no flashy flashy lights or spiny spinning things. Wish we had an Aldi, but it’s a round trip of 250 miles to our nearest in Inverness! Having never built the Cromwell five days ago I bid on an Airfix one and a Revell one, just in case I didn’t win the first one. The Airfix one I won last night and in about 3 hrs I might be in possession of the Revell one, sods law! Enjoyed this build with a cup of coffee and a biscuit, well done sir "cùm iad a’ tighinn"
Thanks - it was a whim purchase in Aldi of which I did enjoy I think my next armour will definitely be of a larger scale though. I couldn't see the parts on the Sprue let alone cut them off and fix them to the model 🤣😂
A nice quick build and a nice result.
Revell have upped their game recently and make some really good kits- their Land Rover and Jaaag E-type are particularly good, though with the Land Rover they've scattered parts at random all over several sprues, which is very frustrating. Good job on the Thunderbolt! I'd suggest getting an Airwick wax burner, as used by SteamGeezer for transfers (I'm old enough to call them that!) as it works superbly well for keeping a supply of warm water close at hand.
Ahh, the mighty ‘Jug’ (why it got that nickname 🤷♂), watching with interest as I have both the razor back and bubble top in my stash, and a couple of near the knuckle nose art decals for each. Deecals/Dekals or as we used to say Transfers. Loving the paint scheme well done sir "cùm iad a’ tighinn"
Thank you again! This was a very good kit, once the flash was off and I must admit I was very impressed with the Revell paint thinning down like it down It's a good kit all said and done, beyond my usual Revell expectations 😁
There are two theories about the origin of the 'Jug' nickname. One is that it's short for juggernaut, the Thunderbolt being a distinctly large aircraft for a single-seat fighter, the other is that the fuselage is a similar sort of shape to a milk jug widely used in the 1940s.
MLK once said ‘I had a dream’, though I don’t think it was in the context of modelling and HMS Belfast. How you dream up these dioramas 🤷♂ is just fantastic, excellent execution, well done sir "cùm iad a’ tighinn"
Volume far too low.
I know - I'm desperately trying to find out what's happened to the cameras. I didn't realise the volume issue until I watched the video back on UA-cam myself... Annoying!!!
It looks great, I haven't the patience for dioramas. I`m Lynne's partner (Ally calls me Manchester Mike) and I have been modelling for a while now, although I`ve just started back after a couple of years. I like cars and bikes mainly, though I`m just finishing a B25 Mitchel by Airfix.
Lovely to hear from you and thanks for being a subscriber!! I must confess I've not built a car or motorbike yet as I do like the aircraft kits mainly; but I may try now you've given me the idea 💡 😁😁😁
Arr, this was built before you came out of the closet and moved to the shed. Six months ago I was probably at the caravan, poor reception that’s my excuse! 1971 I joined the RAF, now I feel old 😔. Fiddly little bugger around the float struts, but you got there with a little fettling and the finished model looks rather good, and even better in it’s resin base. Well done sir "cùm iad a’ tighinn"
Thank you! I did rather enjoy this one. But, to be fair, I enjoy all of the older kits from Airfix as they're more of a challenge 😁
