      Thanks for the comment! You will do fine if this is your first marathon. Although there are some hills, it is not all up hill the second part of the race - there are just a few incline sections. For the most part, it is relatively flat. It is also way flatter than the Kansas City Marathon, so if you had to pick between Garmin and the KC race, Garmin would be a better first race to tackle. If it is your first marathon, I would just recommend taking it easy and focusing on completion. You don't want to run out of gas early in the race. There are also pacers with flags, so if you are going for a specific time you can link up in a pacing group at the starting line and they will bring you in at that time, so long as you keep up with that group. When I ran my first marathon, I kept it really easy and focused on completion because, up until that point, I had never ran more than 18 miles in a single session. I finished at 4:17 and felt like I had a lot left in the tank, so I did the same race the following year and came in at 3:45 because I had the experience and knew how I should feel at different parts of the race. If this is your first marathon and you are not a seasoned distance runner, I'd just recommend enjoying the experience and taking it easy. If you are going for time, I'd recommend linking up with one of the pacing groups at the starting line. Best of luck!

    Thanks for making this! I'm running the Sioux Falls Marathon next weekend. It will be my 23rd full. I was thinking about taking the GoPro but am still deciding. I've only done that once, for San Francisco, and it was totally worth it there because the course there is so beautiful. Not sure if this will be worth holding it or not. Anyway, I appreciate your video. Do you just hold your camera, no stick or anything? Do you keep any way to stow it if you get tired of holding it?

      Thanks for your comment--I'm glad you found the video helpful. Great to hear you will be running the marathon next weekend, and congrats on it being your 23rd full marathon. I don't use a stick, just my hand. But I run with a running vest on, which I use to store my nutrition. So when I'm not using the GoPro I just zip it into one of the side pockets on the running vest and I don't even notice it is there. The vest I use is the Salomon Skin Pro.

    • @davidsrunningvlog7679
      @davidsrunningvlog7679 Рік тому

      The aid stations on this course are fully stocked and have volunteers working them, so they have everything you need for the most part. Food, water, etc. Usually before a race like this the race director sends out an email with an overview of where each aid station is going to be and what items will be there, so you know ahead of time and can plan accordingly based on the distance between them. You can also do drop bags if you have a personal nutrition preference that doesn’t align with the items they’ll have at each aid station.

    • @davidsrunningvlog7679
      @davidsrunningvlog7679 Рік тому

      Hi Chris. I ran the first lap (25 miles) without any walking. After the first lap I took a 5 minute break to use the bathroom and grab some food/items from my drop bag. During the second lap I ended up walking the steeper hills to keep my heart rate in check, while running downhill and on the smaller inclines. So, all in, I'd say it was probably about 80% running and 20% walking for this race.

      Point-to-point is a lot of fun because the scenery is always changing. I definitely prefer a course like this over a looped one. This June I'm heading back up to the Black Hills to do the Black Hills 50k (which also has 50 mile and 100 mile options). That course is more technical than Lean Horse, which is a nice rails-to-trails course.

      @@jeffspicoli763 Nice! I’m doing the Heartland 50 miler this weekend, and it’s going to be in the mid-90s so not sure how that’s gonna go in the heat. The Kansas Rails to Trails course is great for 100. Is it your first attempt, or have you done a few before? The reason why this course is ideal for 100 is because it is flat as a pancake. You aren’t going to find many courses flatter than this, and the weather should be nice and cool. It’s also not on technical trail, so you don’t have to worry about uneven terrain, rocks, etc. Plus the aid stations are great and there are numerous volunteers out there. Nice! Congrats on finishing your first ultra. What's the next race on your calendar? I'm thinking about doing the Heartland 50 in the spring as my next 50 miler. In the meantime I'm signed up for the WinterRock 25k in a few weeks.
