      When I bought my Classic 350 last year in May I compared the RE prices in Thailand with average European prices and found that they were about 15% lower here. That also depends, of course, on the exchange rates. But prices are also a marketing decision. Triumph makes all its bikes here in Thailand but Thai prices are about 15% higher than in the UK !

      It's a bit weird especially because India must still be their most important market and Indians - like other Asians - are normally not particularly tall. I think they will also have problems in Thailand if Thais can't get it off the centre stand, then they won't be buying it in a hurry.

      I think short people approach the bike differently. You push it off the side stand before you sit on it. No extra strain on your left leg. There's a short vid of a very short man getting on the bike and riding it. There's also the possibility of lowering the bike. You sacrifice a bit of ground clearance but it has ample.

      I just got my green book out of the drawer and had a look. No. No reference to km anywhere, neither when I registered the Rebel, nor the previous owners. I think we probably just have to assume that the odometer reading is probably wrong (especially if there's no service book).

      @@SecondLifeTravels1 For sure, yes. There definitely is an Instagram biking thing here, but I realised that most very ordinary bikes that are no good for showing off also have suspiciously low km.

When the new Transalp came out they shook their heads in amazement when i asked about a test ride. 400,000 Baht please, but no, can't ride it first. Luckily some rental places in Chiang Mai were renting them out for, I think, 1600 Baht per day. And renting for the day is probably the best way to get a feel for a bike.

      Hi Brian, sorry for the late reply. My own experience with 3 different properties and landlords has been very good. I think either a one or two month deposit is typical. But of course when we're talking about rents of monthly rents between $140 and $280, that's not a lot of money. There is a huge supply of properties because so many new houses are being built right now.

    • @ancientbiker
      @ancientbiker 18 днів тому

      @@muppet64 Yes. Maybe it's potentially more of a problem in parts of the world like Thailand because most people ride their bikes a lot. I'm always amused when I see UK bikers on UA-cam who say "I have already ridden the bike for 500 miles so it's time for a review". And it seems quite normal for people to only ride their bikes for maybe 3 or 4,000 miles a year. A lot of bikers evidently never cross the channel which is why it is probably the best country to find genuinely low mileage second hand bikes. Such a pity they can't be brought into Thailand.

    So after the bike is 2 years old, it’s my understanding it needs to be brought in for an inspection. At least that’s what I do prior to renewing insurance. I’m in the province of Buriram and I’m sure they’re everywhere. Anyway, I think they would have the annual mileage recorded somewhere. They may be able to look it up by your plate or VIN.

    • @ancientbiker
      @ancientbiker 23 дні тому

      A friend told me that some Kawasaki dealers will look up a bike on a database if they are given the VIN number. And that is (sometimes) a good way to find out about the bike's history, if and when it's been serviced or repaired. Am not sure if the dealers for other brands will do this. I expect, however, that most Thais don't have their bikes serviced by authorised dealers in order to save money.

      I think you have been in Thailand far longer than me, but my impression is that all and any records are kept on paper rather than digitally. I have often wondered what happens to the enormous piles of paper generated by the Immigration office for each foreigner. I suppose there most be hundreds of gigantic warehouses with tons of paper piled up in them. And I think that if even the Green Book does not show distance travelled (odometer), no other piece of paper will show it either. The only possibility I have heard of is that the authorised bike dealer may have a digital record of odometer reading when a bike is serviced or repaired.

    As is so often the case, I think it ultimately depends on the provinces and on the individual Land Transport Office person on the day. There definitely is a law against buying from other farang outside own province, but if and how that law is actually enforced is another matter. I think it's probably more about reducing competition for Thais anyway. I expect that the total ban on importing second hand vehicles is only about protecting Thais' profits.

      Oh yes, I think that Thailand is probably impossible to beat in so many ways. Not only are the hotels & motels extremely affordable but the roads are also fantastic and very little heavy traffic apart from Bangkok. It's easy to stop almost anywhere for excellent and cheap local food too. And there is something else I realised from watching UA-cam bikers' channels especially in the UK - a huge amount of time is devoted to the issue of safety, specifically how to lock the bike and prevent theft. Simply not an issue here where it is normal for everybody to leave their helmet on the bike, knowing that nobody will touch or steal it. The same applies to bikes. Such a safe and honest country.

    A much better format. Had the pleasure of meeting bykersam the last time he was in Chiang Rai. A good man doing good things to help those less fortunate in life. A nice channel to watch also. The last video I watched of his was the Howerair 1 drone review. The only review that never shows the drone itself. But I still want to buy one! And Patrick, you can’r wear that shirt any more!

      Thanks Teacher T, I think you're right about the shirt. Maybe I should order one of Ikram's tailor made Phayao shirts to replace it :) (Wearing a Honda logo because of the new bike isn't quite the same).

      This year it really wasn't too bad in all honesty. There were a couple of weeks but compared to previous years it was much much better.

    Nice house but The small living room with the tall television is out of the question; it's not ergonomically good.

    Love seeing the pups on the bikes 🐕 my little Pom cant get enough of it. Nice and slow around town, 30/40km/h, no harm done
