It really didn't feel like the writers gave a shit about Miguel because they basically turned him into Superior Spider-Man and it raises the question why they didn't just have Superior in the role. MAWS is the best Superman fiction in a long time. It's bright, it's colorful and most important of all; hopeful. It's everything Superman is supposed to be and everything Snider's isn't. Though I wouldn't put the blame fully on Snider alone. I'll be branded a heretic for this but Christopher Nolan has a big share in the blame too. He made Batman dark and griddy and it sold like hotcakes. It gave the higher ups the impression EVERYTHING DC is supposed to be dark and griddy. Hence why they got Snider on board.

There was an early version of this scene where Mike and Sully would have this conversation, with Sully saying "I need you buddy", and at the end of it, they'd be best friends. It initially didn't ring through for the writers and they came to the revelation that maybe Mike wouldn't have gotten over it and with him and Sully being at the bottom questioning what they're made up of, them seeing each other in the same boat would be the thing to bring them together.
