Cute dog!
I was filming on the opposite platform to where you were at Dorchester West.
@@wonterland26 my brother kindly contributed the Dorchester clip - I was waiting at Upwey ☺️
I think I will add a Leader to my collection this year
You may want to watch more reviews first.
@@dalecherne5377 I will still add one
A fine looking engine and nicely demonstrated.
@@slalomsteve thank you ☺️ I really enjoyed running it!
Looks great, intrestedn8n the three pack that Hornby are doing but not sure if i like the price. Intrigued at how many class 33's you have 😊
I've noticed the whistles are missing of yours too.
Tis a cracking model, (my 65th b/day present to myself), just needs a good run in. I have been involved in heavy engineering & spent 30 odd years in the restoration & upkeep of a few of Mr Bulleids unconverted Pacific’s in 12” - ft. I can confidently & wholeheartedly refute all the rubbish that has been written about them!! The valve gear is a wonderful piece of kit when you understand it. 30 oiling points on an original too as opposed to 98 on the 3 cyl Britannia’s (rebuilds). Don’t believe all you’ve read since the ol chaps (footplatemen & workshop staff), I dealt with thought the world of ol Bulleid. Salisbury & Exmouth Junc loved em! I am now looking forward after 40 yrs of waiting to get stuck in to my oo layout. KR models have been very good at responding to some issues I’ve had so I can’t & won’t knock them, considering it’s not their fault. They promptly reply to all my e mails with effective responses. Looks like the whistles missing tho on one end of the model in the vid? With oil firing the ol Leader would have been a goer, boiler on centre line then & Bulleid said if only he’d had thought of the design of the turf burner bogies sooner, Leader would have been so fitted. Lots of politics & jealousy between the big four. Bulleid was a man who was ahead of the field & simply ran out of time! The war didn’t help him much either!! So 9 outa 10 for KR models & their Leader, from me!!😃
Lovely ex SR loco
At least yours arrived all in one piece. Various items had broken off mine and one of the wheels was loose. Still waiting for a response from KR Models...
I don’t know if I trust them yet
@Gatherleymodeller. check your wheels. a lot of them are loose
Yep, join the cue !!!!! Longs of broken models being returned. Sam's trains has a great review of them. Another paper weight from KR Models !!!!!!!
I'm absolutely blown away that there's a ready to run model of this available, model railways aren't doing so badly these days.
Good job
THE "LEADER" - PROBABLY BETTER KNOWN AS THE PHANTOM !!! First Review of a model loco ! Mmmph but a type (The Leader Class) that in reality made a few test runs and got the "Riddles" chop. And the other four under construction were sent to the nearest scrap heap, pronto! So what can be done in reality with a Model, of a design that virtually no one ever saw ! And when it did go out on test had to be confined almost solely to the backwaters of the "Oxted" line, hauling a train of empty carriages. To keep it out of the way, as it often broke down ! Bulleid was as usual "pushing out the boundaries". By incorporating things like "Sleeve Valves" that had very little previous testing in any Railway vehicle. Barring the limited testing using a converted H1 4-4-2 Atlantic. For limited experiments with Sleeve Valves. A Good idea, but too late in the day, when you had people like Riddles in charge, who were quite obviously wedded to the concept of LMS style, traditional simple outside two cylinder types. Hence the BR Standards he effectively developed. Riddles' fundamental flaw "He couldn't think outside the box". So O. V. S. Bulleid literally went west, all the way to Inchicore and CIE in Dublin. Were he started designing another eventual flop. The Peat Burning loco, another pseudo Diesel look alike ! Bah, stick a few more Hornby Bulleid Pacifics (Spam Cans) on your layout. Just as the Southern Region did, in place of the promised Leaders. 140 Pacifics should fill up your layout, and of course the Hornby models, won't suffer from the "Chain driven Valve gear" problems of the real thing breaking down, or catching fire, as was their party trick (38 caught fire in 1953 for example). Interestingly Bulleid said to A.H. Peppercorn (LNER CME) Quote "Pep all you have to do is design an express passenger loco with FIVE (5) wheels and your name will go down in History" Unquote. Peppercorn being a serious designer, was of course horrified at such a remark !!! Happy Modelling 😀
Looked to be slowing down on the curves? Very long loco
Yes i noticed that as well
Not bad for a Sunday, nicely put together 👍🏻

Excellent video. The shot of 90041+9040 on the intermodal leaving am I right in thinking he didnt spad although the signal was red.... or was that for another line?
@@HentisRail thanks Tony - you know what, I was surprised they moved as I thought they had the red aspect, but on closer inspection there was a row of lights below the main signal giving the go ahead into the yard where the 90’s would be swapped for a class 66. Unfortunately you can’t see the lower lights on the video.

@@steamisbest thank you - pleased you enjoyed watching!
Fascinating video! I miss the old parcels & mail trains with all the shunting and re-sorting of vans at main stations. On some trains all the vans of a consist could end up at different places hundreds of miles apart, on other parcels trains. It was all timed to connect in a fascinatingly complex pattern that had evolved over time. I don't think anyone or computer program could now re-invent it from scratch, so basically now it's gone it's lost forever. Sad. Incidently, that last bit was fun. A truely meteoric acceleration up the hill on a DMU. Then we see why - the Class 47 on the front. Had the DMU failed?
@@Crepello100 yes - I assume the DMU had failed… I have no recollection to be honest! I had forgotten just how busy our main stations used to be!! Thank you for watching!
57303 was a great suprise!
It was good to get a different loco from the night before!
Shame that they scrapped all of these iconic units, as they could have saved them for railtours. One powercar still remains though, so maybe they can pair it with MK3 coaches and convert it into a DBSO.

Questionable 8 of them operational in 92? 8 & 15 were off the books bought by Pete Waterman, 29 seized the power unit in December, 30 lasted to Feb. So it was sort of 5 Class 50s come Jan 1992, 7 was back with bits from 46, 33 had a make over from Feb to April, 50/D400 had a generator swap, 30 worked until February and as I said they managed to seize the PU on 29 in Jan.
@@Thunderer0872 thanks for your feedback - I took the information from railway magazines published at the time, but happy to be corrected!
@@therailwaydog No worries, They may have listed on TOPS but 8 & 15 did the trip to Cornwall which was advertised as their last run on BR in November 1991. Like I said Laira managed to seize the Power Unit on 29, 50 had a Main Gen swap, 30 finished at the end of February, 33 got an exam with some paint. 7 was back from the parts donated from Ajax.
That's a lot of people 😃 nicely done as always Andrew 👏
