Well I mean to be fair originally when they arrived in Atlas they were all captured easily by the squad. Not to mention all the training and upgrade James gave them in their time in Atlas

I disagree; they were captured by the Ace-Ops when the arrived in Mantle, a clear example of the Ace-Ops' superior skills. Ruby stating that they _were_ the best Huntsmen in Atlas... before adding that they trained them (RWBY) is an excellent retort, indicating the Ace-Ops made a mistake in training them and then suddenly underestimating RWBY's skills along with their effective teamwork, which they proceeded to use to put the Ace-Ops in their place

@okamireader5 yes I hear you, but stating what actually happens doesn't really land as a good comeback. "You trained us" is pretty soft and just basically states (let's be real) what KIND of happened. Because the show couldn't even thoroughly portray the ace ops training team rwby, so it doesn't really land in both ways I described. Also again the line is just weak lol, If you don't like my substitute answer I'm sure anyone could come up with something better. Ruby could've really just said "not anymore" and it would've been better. Also i find it hilarious that ruby immediately tries to talk down and reason with Harriet after that bold one liner lol, im sorry but the tone was lacking. "You were, now it's us" is better because it subtle, comebacks don't have to be specific or on the nose

It was perfect usage of the song to emphasize the shock of the moment. It was the turning point of the battle where Team RWBY gained the upper hand and numbers advantage, even they themselves were surprised.

​@@luck2626 You're leaving out that Blake and yang going behind ironwood's back and straight up lying through their teeth to the man along with Ruby doing the same shit about the lamp and Ozpin is a very large part of why things ended up the way they did with him. Team RWBY is very much at fault for pretty much ironwood's heel turn. Not that they'll ever acknowledge their hypocrisy.

Wait that's true. If Marrow wasn't hesitant the whole time, he could've just said "STAY!" and the fight would've never happened. But Ruby took advantage of his nervousness. She split the team, and therefore the fight, into mini battle that she knew her team could handle. And they did. One by one the Aces fell like dominos.

The simplest interpretation is that she's quite literally just coping. Ruby's speaking far too many facts and Harriet's pissed they're being undermined by team RWBY, so she fires back as if she *actually* had their measure the entire time. It definitely sounds like cope to me, she's just firing back because Ruby is pushing her buttons and she needs to say something to feel satisfied

Remember the Ace Ops follow orders, and before this Team RWBY wasn't the enemy. Even if she had doubts, I doubt she'd say anything. For them, the mission comes first

We must also not forget that Team RWBY and Team JNR received training directly from the AceOps, this added to their previous battles and expenses made them into hunters of a level equal to the AceOps despite being younger than the AceOps

Can we also mention that team RWBY has fought together for a while? Their synergy has only gotten better as the volumes progress. Their skills and abilities only grow and never really weaken. They aren't able to fight salem and win against her but still

I also think the ace ops became over reliant of clovers semblance "Good Fortune" without realizing it becoming overconfident as missions became too easy which cause the ace ops skills to dull while Team Rwby's skills are only getting sharper.

and not to mention AceOps don't really work as a team like RWBY they don't depend on eachother and work together they just do whatever they can to get things done even if it harms the other person on their team. not to mention Elm getting angry over yang saying 'it isn't worth it blake their just 'following orders now' is why AceOps was so easily beaten if they were able to be taunted that easily. because Elm just charges in without her teammate while hes left vulnerable because she is focusing on yang so honestly I don't see why people question it so much when it's obvious from this fight alone that they are just a bad team and the synergy is just off completely!

Not to mention the Ace-Ops are too divided on how they want to apprehend Team RWBY. Their orders are to arrest Team RWBY not kill. Vine and Marrow wanted to use the non-violent approach by giving them a chance to surrender, even if it doesn't work. While Harriet and Elm wanted to "Beat up first, ask questions later". But Team RWBY one have but one goal they can agree on: Defeat the Ace-Ops and escape.

The gun he uses to launch himself is using gravity dust, hence its power, so it probably has about the same strength shot wise

@@chrisp7326 but Ironwood can also shoot his non dust gun without the recoil impulse, so I feel as though it's dependant on how much he resists it as opposed to how much force it generates. But RWBY logic is never gonna be sound lol

I kinda wish that Ironwood would be given a redemption arc where unlike Lionheart who is remembered as a hero who sacrificed his life Ironwood would live while being seen as an evil tyrant and remain imprisoned by his former allies. And or any other alternate scenario that can be thought up.

They could have done something interesting. If their are semblances like mind control wouldn’t it make sense for someone to be controlling his mind. Like that is watts semblance if he did have one, which would make more sense. But maybe since he’s smart make some sort of device to control him and he planted it on him during their fight.

@@Southirish0 Yeah that would have been more interesting and less out of nowhere than what we got. They literally showed Ironwood putting it all on the line to save the people of Mantle from freezing while playing a song literally saying he would die to protect people. Then five minutes after the fight he turns into REALLY evil tyrant.

​@@Southirish0Or better yet, make Ironwood's Semblance Mettle not only strengthen his resolve but every else's resolve which gives his soldiers an edge in battle as they keep until they die or if they beat the enemy. Kinda like the Battle Meditation from Star Wars: KOTOR.

@@Biancalovestosew98 So the other comments have the wrong idea of the phrase, she's saying "I had you pegged from the start" which having someone pegged essentially means you have them figured out (IE know their true self). The origin of the phrase would take some digging to confirm but it supposedly comes from a retired thief who had a method for figuring out if someone was breaking into a store late at night by placing a peg inside of a door, if when you check it in the morning it had fallen out that means someone broke in and therefore you could have a PLACE pegged. The other comments are thinking of an entirely different phrase... the other very close term pegging which is something much different (bedroom fun) and not having someone pegged. Wording is very similar but the meaning is way different.

Harriet was beating Ruby UP, Marrow was REALLY holding back, Elm is slower and lost her footing, Vine underestimated Blake's and Yang's intelligence.

Not to mention the ace ops don't exactly work together

Besides harriet was baited by ruby, if she fought weiss instead of ruby and the wolf guy agaisnt rwby they would probably won easily

They're not just a bunch of kids. They are all considered exceptionally talented. They had almost a year at Beacon and have been doing real Huntsmen work for around two years. That mixed with them receiving military training themselves for an undisclosed amount of time as well makes for one hell of a team. And based on their tactics, it was clear they planned for this scenario. Another thing to note is that I don't believe Atlas gets many non-Grimm threats. As opposed to Team RWBY constantly fighting human opponents.

It’s because team RWBY was more determined and had better teamwork. The Ace-Ops still see team RWBY as friends, and as shown right before, they didn’t wanna fight, they did it because Ironwood ordered them to, and all Atlas soldiers are wired to follow orders, even if it goes against their instincts or personal judgement The Ace-Ops are torn between their feelings end their duties, while team RWBY is completely aligned with no doubts of themselves or their duties

This volume specifically stated that the Ace Ops trust each other not to let each other die, but that's as far as their team work goes. Showing that actual friends can work better together as a unified effort is why Team RWBY won out.

@@ВоваЯйцелом There's a multitude of factors as to why the Ace Ops lost this. 1: Harriet was always shown to be very proud and have a temper, which Ruby played on to knock her emotions off balance. 2: The Ace Ops were down a member, most notably their leader and literal good luck charm, who not only would have been able to make the rest of his team focus and they would have had the benefit of his Semblance, which the Ace Ops also weren't used to fighting without. 3: RWBY was united in a goal, the Ace Ops were devided. Elm and Harriet were out for blood. Ruby and Yang both played on this. Vine and Marrow were holding back until it was too late. 4: The Ace Ops were more specifically trained to fight Grimm and didn't have as much experiance as RWBY did fighting high level Semblance weilding opponents, like Cinder, Adam ect. and had a TON of real world life or death experiance by the time they get to Atlas. 5: RWBY got several months of training with the Ace Ops, all with their leader not fully trusting the Ace Ops or Ironwood, and learned their weaknesses 6: RWBY devided the Ace Ops and exploited the Ace Ops weaknesses (Weiss and her summon being able to act independantly vs Marrow, Blake and Yang who can almost read each others minds in a fight vs Elm and Vine, and Yang destroying the floor to counter Elm's Semblance, and Ruby distracting Harriet the whole time. In fact Ruby wasn't actively fighting back the whole time, she kept the other speedster's focus on her and didn't actively attack back. The only time we see Ruby switch to an offensive stance is right at the end) This is just off the top of my head, but RWBY was always a very talented group, there was a reason Ozpin kept such a close eye on them. The fight here was really well done and showed why RWBY was able to come out on top, if you paid attention.

@@serenitysilvermoon Y'know, I never realize that part about Clover before. This team had never been in a fight in which luck wasn't specifically on their side before. Makes me wonder how much of their previous success was solely because Clover was on the team.

@@TheFamilyLedger I mean they're all talented in their own right, but I doubt as a team many of them have had to worry about it too much, except maybe Marrow since he was the last to join the Ace Ops, but he was also the hardest countered in this particular fight, too.

In addition, it seems that Team RWBY prepared to face the Ace Ops, not only with Ruby separating Harriet, but also putting Weiss against Marrow, with her being the only one who could face Marrow's semblance without problems. also, Yang is facing Elm, both being the strongest of the 2 teams
