    The stock electronics are garbage, will be replacing mine! The quality control on these guitars is NON-EXISTENT. 3rd world assembly line junk. You could try, but sandpaper only marginally fixes that silly neck.

    • @JoshParker-Music
      @JoshParker-Music 4 місяці тому

      I disagree that they are garbage, or at least speaking from my guitar’s perspective. I think they are a little on the pricy side, but it’s also hardware that isn’t as regularly accessible and more complex construction methods. The electronics are very good, just not the sound I was after. The endurneck once you get used to it really will help your technique. I still prefer the feel of my normal neck guitars, however it isn’t uncomfortable after sitting with it for a while. My main complaint with my instrument was the sharp edges on the string locks at the nut and the right arm location. The only other thing that really bugs me is the zero fret ping that continually comes back on the higher strings regardless of sanding and doing what Strandberg says to fix it. I’ve rigorously road tested it and recently took it on an international tour and it did fantastically. It’s not a “perfect” instrument by any means, however I completely trust it to be there for me when I need it.

      @@JoshParker-Music Garbage was a bad choice of words. The pot are cheap, the output jack is beyond silly, but the pickups are not 'bad' just not for me. The sharp edges all over the nut & locker, the bad edge ending of the neck, bridge saddles that are sharp and stick, the zero fret thing you mention that combines with that to make it ALWAYS a cent or two different after every note...lol. Smack it around and it comes back nicely though. Then tuners that stick and are way inaccurate and hard to turn because of that (check out good ones by NOVA, through 'ploutone'), the wavy back of the neck and fingerboard edge...not finish sanded. The body finish that gets instantly messed if you touch it...almost 'polishing' everywhere you do. Sloppy, bad construction, bad quality control. I LOVE the richlite fingerboard and TT fanned frets. It is nice and light, but the resonance is silly for any 'volume' or 'gain' playing. Makes excellent sustain for desktop playing, but an ES-335 is 'tighter'. The thumb access on top is silly...why? geez! Bulky neck joint too. Then there is the Endure neck. I give. I assume it works for some. A short test was obviously not enough. And then WAY OVERPRICED...even if none of the above issues existed. I could afford it just for chording work with the TT's...most people cannot toss money away like that.

However, I‘m looking forward to see you on your next Jazz Guitar Lesson 👍

    • @JoshParker-Music
      @JoshParker-Music 6 місяців тому

      Thanks for the kind words and for checking the videos out. I think the balance from the stock pickups comes from how compressed they are. It’s hard to gauge after all the processing from UA-cam and recording. It’s very noticeable when you are there with the guitar. A side note, I finally found the right height for the Seth Lovers and they sound fantastic. The stock pickups were just way too bright for what I was personally looking for. They are great pickups for rock and fusion though. Tone is very subjective between everyone’s ears though. I used the same amp sim on HX Native between those two video, so hopefully it was a faithful representation of the differences between them. More lessons coming soon, just crazy busy times right now and no time to record/edit things.

    This guitar is really uncomfortable when you play it sitting down on account of its small body size. You wouldn't notice it if you play for 35 minutes. But if you spend 6 or 7 hours everyday practicing you will find that the body is too small and you end up crouching over the guitar. You back and neck gets very tired after a while paying this guitar sitting down. The slanted frets do not add anything and the fret spaces get very narrow high up the frets. The flat neck is uncomfortable. But the guitar looks very good.

    Hi josh ! I follow your channel from France ! You decide me to buy a strandberg salen jazz nx6 I order it Wednesday and receive it Monday 😍 ! You know well this guitar now and you changed pick ups for Seth lover 🙏 nice choice for jazz playing. I’m not a real jazz player, I’m more fusion and blues do you think that the originals pick ups will suits for my style ? I understand why you choose a three way selector but for me the 5 way switch will gave me versatility like « single coil » sounds … thanks for your answer 🙏 and sorry for my English ! Greetings from nice French Riviera ben ! I forgot ! I play with an always on klon centaure (not the real one 😂 ! A French pedal made in Nice called savage from Anasounds ! Have a look nice pedals). My current guitar is a dusenberg caribou 😍 such a beautiful an good sounding guitar but I have multiple sclerosis and the dusenberg is now to heavy, to big and the neck so hard to play. The endurneck is so cool to play with fan frets really most easy for me(I’ve tried one strandberg before) but a prog model not sounding for me. I really hope that you will answer to my question about the new MF classic strandberg pick up suits for blues and fusion jazz ? Cause this guitar is expensive for me and changing the pick ups will be hard for me financially… thanks a lot for reading me !

      Hello! That is awesome to hear, I’m sure you will love the instrument once you get used to it. It feels a little different than a normal guitar, but it feels so natural to me now. The stock pickups sound really good, they just weren’t the sound I was looking for. I think they will be great for whatever you want to play. Main reason I went with the 3 way is the Seth Lovers are not splittable, they are oldschool single braided wire. The other reasons are I kept knocking the pickup selector down from 5th position to 4th position unintentionally. I also have a Strat that can do all the single coil stuff if I need it. Maybe one day I’ll get the single coil Strandberg as well 😆. I’m glad I could be of help for you! Thanks for reaching out and for the kind words. Have a good one!

    Hey man, do you still answer questions here? Are you able to play it in classical position, without the strap? Is the cable pressing in your right leg? Could you try it real quick? Love your playing, subscribed!

    • @JoshParker-Music
      @JoshParker-Music 10 місяців тому

      Thank you for the kind words! Yes, you can sit with it in the classical position without a strap. The cable does not dig into my leg that way, it loops over the top. It does pose a couple issues for my own style though. In that position, the neck angle is too extreme, and it pushes the whole guitar too far left so I feel like I have to lean my whole body over to it. That makes it very uncomfortable for my body. For me, the most comfortable I am with any instrument is when I can bring the instrument to me and have it square with my body. I don’t like when I have to go to the instrument, it adds extra strain and tension that doesn’t need to be there. Strandberg has made it very comfortable in that way with the lower leg cutout.

    That angled cable jack is definitely a bad design idea. I can't think of one reason to angle it into your midsection like that. Maybe they thought it was keeping the cable from pointing straight out from the body of the guitar. Would be better to just come out parallel to the guitar body and then loop it through your strap if you are worried it'll come out by stepping on the cable. Beveling the nut near that 0 fret (the front edges where your hand would hit) would be another improvement and beveling the neck edges (back of the neck where the 2 corners are) would probably help if it was done just a tad more. I think they certainly could bevel the fretboard edges as well but I think if it is unbound as most guitars are, it is hard to bevel the edges more than just a little. It'd end up being basically scalloped a tad so that the fret slot is untouched but the rest of the fret area is slightly curved only at the edge. Would definitely feel better. I scalloped several of my guitars (did them myself) and they bend way, way easier with 0 fretboard dragging your fingertips during the bending. The sharper fretboard edges doesn't bother me.

  • @TruthSurge
    @TruthSurge 10 місяців тому

    10:55 Have to disagree. Fanned frets do not make a guitar more in tune. It just lengthens the heavier strings and thus the intonation is elongated for the bigger strings and shorter for the smaller strings (as is evident by where the bridge saddles lie at the bridge). Even though the scales are different for each string, they still use ONE STATIC ratio for each string to calculate where the frets need to be for each string. Normally, on a guitar the frets are all parallel but if you tilt them, they have to continue to tilt because the ratio isn't just addition to the length, it's exponential. 12th root of 2 to be precise. So.... it's still going to create equally tempered notes, you just have to slide the bridge saddles farther from the neck for the larger strings or perhaps closer for the smaller strings. Not sure what the lengths are on that guitar but no, it does not play more in tune than a standard guitar. Perhaps it was intonated properly at the factory? Nice review.

    • @JoshParker-Music
      @JoshParker-Music 10 місяців тому

      Thanks for the info! All I can really say is that the intonation is definitely different between the fanned frets and straight frets. It’s not the my other guitars are bad, they are also fantastic instruments, but the strandberg across the entire fretboard is more even and in tune. I really enjoy the fanned frets and the tension balance the compound scale lengths give you.

    • @TruthSurge
      @TruthSurge 10 місяців тому

      @JoshParker-Music It makes the bigger strings tighter which keeps them more stable, but of course, that makes them harder to bend But you said you didn't ben very much. It's definitely interesting.

    • @TruthSurge
      @TruthSurge 10 місяців тому

      @@JoshParker-Music Not to beat this intonation topic to death but if your other guitars use a "nut" only instead of fret 0, there IS a slight possibility that the placement of the nut is wrong and if it is even a micrometer off, that will throw the scale off and your low notes and highest notes will be out of tune with respect to the open strings. So, that could be a problem with some guitars. Using a fret 0 is the best solution (imo) as it can be accurately placed just like all the other frets. All my guitars use some kind of nut only so I have personally experienced the problem of not being able to intonate completely due to the nut being either too close to fret 1 or too far from fret 1. Keep rockin!!!!!

  • @cattafish
    @cattafish 11 місяців тому

    Yes it's much better than before. To get a similar tone I found EQ to be my friend. The problem is that it's a 25" scale guitar. So, I cut narrowly at around 100hz (Q16) to bring out the low mids and make the bass less tight. I also cut a little at around 800hz (Q1) and 3.15khz (Q4) where there's too much going on with this guitar for authentic jazz tone. An overall cut at 6kz was applied and 4kz on the delay and reverb. Adding appropriate channel delay on a two- amp setup, the result was a near perfect John Abercrombie clean sound.

    • @evrythingis1
      @evrythingis1 8 місяців тому

      @@peteroaasd Sure, that's why he had to change the pickups and put 11's on it just to try and make it sound less thin and weak. You know anyone else who plays with 11's just because their electric guitar sounds so thin and tinny with normal strings on it? It's the worst guitar for jazz played with a clean signal on the entire market, which is a difficult task to accomplish considering how simple electric guitars are and how they should effectively all sound the same if you use the same strings and pick-ups.

I just thought the stock stuff was too bright and compressed. The other modifications I did was to move the strap button down between the neck screws. This allowed the guitar to sit better for me and be more straight with my body which is way more comfortable for me. Then lastly, I actually rounded off a couple of the sharp spots I mentioned in the video and it’s a lot more comfortable overall. Still love the guitar and think Strandberg are definitely on to something with them!

    Morning, where di you find the "IR 1024" please

  • @heneverreturnasahorse9773

    I love the idea, the comfort and the ergonomics. However, I despise 24 gret fingerboards as I find myself fingerpicking over the 21st throug 24th frets and I do not particularly care for the placement of the "thythm" pickup. I prefer the tones of the pickup mounted closer to the nut as on 22 and 21-fret fingerfoards.

      Thanks for checking out the video! I can agree with you. I usually don’t prefer 24 frets because of the pickup placement. On the strandberg there is a definite high frequency that is not present in any of my other guitars and I believe it’s the placement of those pickups. I usually prefer 22 fret necks, or on archtops have gotten accustomed to 20 frets. I wish they would make a 22 fret version and also a 7 string version!

    I've got a parts guitar I'm putting Seth Lover's in. How do you like the tone knob with the .047 orange drop capacitor? I'm looking to have a good range of adjustment with the tone knob so I can roll it off a bit to get some jazzier tones.

      Thanks for checking out the video! I love both the Seth Lovers and and the capacitor choice. I have other guitars with .022 caps and they stay really bright until you turn the knob all the way down and it’s instantly underwater. The .047 cap seems to have a more usable range, especially in a jazz context. I usually keep the tone knob down to around 4-5 and it’s a good blend of dark, but not muddy. I I also usually run the volume back to about 7-8 which helps darken it a little bit and make it more dynamic without making the amp breakup. I highly recommend the combo for jazz. The pickups are definitely really sensitive with the height that you place them. They get really thin if you put them too low, but really full at the right height.

    Great review, and obviously great playing. Really appreciate the time you took to go through the tones…and that they are clean! Honestly shocked at the sweet/balanced/warm tone from that guitar. Also impressed with your Line 6 tone man.

      Thank you for the kind words and for checking out the video! I get so upset at guitar “review” videos because they are usually “here’s the guitar with a ton of distortion on it” and you can’t hear the actual guitar tone. Especially coming from a jazz background, I felt it was needed. The guitar itself is pretty sweet! It’s definitely got s vibe if it’s own. Have a good one!

      @@JoshParker-Music Oh Sorry. It sounds great. Is it because the pitch is so good? "The harmonies of the chords are so beautiful!"

    This is the first single coil Humbucker sound that I have ever liked. I’m shocked how balance it sounds.
