I remember the farm my father used a kidd forager exactly the same as the one shown, they bought it brand new to go on the new ford 5000 they also bought, it was the first for both in the area, the 5000 had a canvass lambourne cab, at an age of six or so I would walk up to meet my father so I could ride in the cab but not when foraging as the flails through parts of a flint into the cab breaking the windscreen. They also bought a lemkin reversible for it, no hydraulics you had to pull a lever to tilt the plough
Nothing has changed really in 40 years other than the size of the equipment which has now reached the limits of our field systems. Progression will be only from driver less equipment either self controlled by GPS or from a driver sat in an office with a hand controller.
That’s a buisy road for 88
The A52 😂😅
Not a loading shovel in sight the good old leyland done it all they were great old work horses hope the young lads to day have a good look at this no labtop needed here l am saveing a few of those wonderful old machines and happly my young son to Phil Maguire lreland
I agree Leylands are my favourite tractors, and it's sad to see so many people disrespect them
Many a man was killed on the silage pit because of NO ROLL BAR on the tractor but i did it myself back in the 70s so I cant talk great video guys
Going at it like a bull in a China shop with the tractor and rake.
Great video Is the harvester aTaarup 106 We had taarup 602B and after that taarup 10X. Brings back great memories
Yes is a 106 👍
In 1988 i used to see Fortschritt E281 self propelled forager, wich was quit interesting sight for those times..
Great video 💪
Is the Taarup brand new in the video?
Yes it is aswell as the blue trailer 👍
😮
They don’t know there born these days, Aircon, Automatic gears. This video is how I started, Ford 6610, Kidd double chop, Frazer trailer…. O yeah and jumping out every load to take the tipper pipe off to swap trailers😂😂😂😂and no metal detector!
and the last decade with not a bad milkprice for small dairyfarmers {at least here in the netherlands} Good movie.
Had a 270 Leyland turbo Bought it as demonstrator tractor with 40hrs $8500 Used it for 5500 hrs It was a good tractor 85 hp for 8500 Try that today
Ah yes I was that solder A lot of long days started with 344 Worked up to a 282 syncro
Them Leylands looked 50 years old even back then they were probably less than 20. We had a 270 but sadly let her go.
I know that's what I thought, so I bet they don't exist anymore
this is from the times when farmers worked. making silage and milking cows. now the lazy gets sit around hand out for subsidies and tell everyone there's no money in farming, while leaning on the 100k john deere parked in front of a lovely detached house in the country. rant over nice video the 285 was a good tractor for pulling forage harvesters. we had a 2100 which was far more guts then the ford 7600 we had.
Those were the days. Lucky if you got 20 acres.
This video brings back alot of happy memories of cutting silage in the eighty's and nineties thanks for sharing 👍
Remember buckraking with a Leyland 270 in the early eighties great machine for the job climbed the silo well but brakes were not great
We used to have the same fergy trailer with tin sides and a mash hammer at the pit to get the pins out,oil pipes to connect and disconnect every load, happy days
Destroying the 804's clutch , get in low gear keep revs up
My thoughts exactly isn't it amazing how many people think they can drive a tractor that's why I won't let anyone much drive mine
Poor devil in the pit breathing in all the exhaust fumes
Is that a 622 or an older harvester?
It was a 106 👍
I haven't a clue what the guy on the buckrake said at all. They sure do like their Leyland too.
I bet it I bet it was a mega hot job buckraking in that 804 , it doesn’t look like it’s an XL, so the back half of the engines in the cab & she’d be steaming on that job with no aircon 🥵
Good to see old videos
A great bit of footage, well done to whoever had the idea to take this back in the day!
I've tried to think the reason.... but I can't.... why did they move grass from one place to another place?... spent time, diesel and labour that could have done half of the time and half the price... so there must have been a reason I can't fathom.
Good old school silage makin video 💪 love the sound of an 804 👍
Reminds me of my childhood sailing and watching the proper tractor working, real tractor driving in them days!!
Loving the silencer on the 702 lol, I bet the buck rake man would have welcomed it at the time!
All 1690 david Brown's blew black smoke on the chopper, I remember a local lad buying a new one and he had no luck with it, replaced it with a crystal 12045 and things went much smoother for him.
Those were the days, tractor wasn't working if it wasn't smoking, remember some of the big Fords, in it's day that would have been an impressive outfit.
The hydraulics were perfect for buckrakeing and yes a pain on the knees after a full day pushing the clutch down .lovely video and great memories
Good operator shuts revs of to reverse back easy on clutch
They couldn't manage this day and age without 4 wd , my leyland tractors were all 2wds , 2 x 272 s , 2 x 282s.
Huh, can't reverse without a camera either!
Same here both my Leyland 282 s were 2wd .
M
The 4 cylinder Leyland/Marshalls had a very distinctive exhaust note.
Again very nice clips. The 804 made the buckraking much easier. The synchro box must have been a joy compared with the 384.At around that time or before t we used Nuffield 10/60's on buckrakes .Just to make life interesting when the silage was pushed up we used to turn around and drive up the pit to pack t.
Lovely. The 1690 appears to be much more in command of the chopper. A bit smokey 😃
No smoke no poke 😉
No smoke no poke ! 🤣 more so my dad going up a gear because he was being filmed 🙄
@@adamhurst4246 he certainly wasn’t given the poor tractor an easy time........ ken always give tractors on the chopper a hard life😂😂
The Leyland is doing a good job of climbing the pit.Rough on the drivers clutch leg though.
The Buckrake operator was busy. It was and indeed still is probably the most important part of the operation. if not filled correctly the silage might not cure .
Lovely video. Great quality for its age.The 285 seems comfortable with the chopper. The chopper and blue trailer appear new or very fresh .Brings back memories of manually opening the tailboards.
The chopper and trailer were brand new in this video. The first bit of grass they’d seen 👍
good vid but I think its 1987 or 1988 as the 1594 is a commemorative edition and they did not exist in 1986 , £15500 they were at Burgess , Marshalls sound good and that non synchro 272 must have been fun to drive
Yes we worked out it must have been 88. I thought I’d changed the date on the video but obviously not! 👍
Marshall 804 probably my favourite tractor of the 80s. Best sounding 4-cylinder turbo engine ever. Great videos of the past, just subscribed.
Agree sounds great though the 600 series MF was a better place to spend a day.
@@aidanquinn5498 I’d probably agree with you on the cab front Aiden, remember driving a new MF 698T in the 80s and it was luxury compared to I’d been used to. The Explorer cab was still pretty decent though especially compared to the offerings from the previous decade!
The tarrup mower were a good mower conditioner a nd were one of the first to bring out mower with a grouper behind it .Thank you for sharing this video
Won't be much clutch left after this.
Poor bastard on the pit knew he'd done a days work when he finished
You are so right I did the same when I was young hateful job
At least he had power steering & a push off buckrake. 😉
Them david browns were a great tractor
