I used to live there. What did they put on your face? As a Cambodian who lives abroad I feel so uncomfortable for strangers to touch your face.
It was definitely a unique experience. Since we come from a country where everybody is aware of personal space and shy away from contact, it was nice to challenge our boundaries. The white stuff was talcum powder that they put on our faces. Strange for us, but a lot less poisonous than the paint in India. 🤣

May I ask where did you park overnight?
We have a couple different apps that we use and also exercise common sense to read the signs and stay clear of any bad situations. Our favorite spots are along the Pacific Coast Highway. But "Ioverlander app" has really been a help for us. ☺️

Make sure you'll look up Havasupai Trailhead (AZ) and go see Mooney Falls amongst other falls. There's a village in the valley there and a campground. It's like the Garden of Eden on earth. And i'm not even religious.
I just looked it up online. Unfortunately we don't have the time to go there this time. But it is now on my bucket list for sure. I thought I would come home to Sweden with a smaller bucket-list. But atm it is getting bigger, longer and harder. Thank you for the tip. It is insanely appreciated! ☺️🥰

No, I would say old and young participate in the water fighting. Kids with their parents and of course a lot of tourists over 30. Many locals of various ages come out for this event. But the waterfighting is something that has become popular in recent years. It's not part of the original tradition. ☺️
