hmmm ... especially in Tokyo, unless really necessary, I will never talk to strangers (except for the usual aisatsu). My family stays within our social and business groups. I definitely avoid the right wing nationalists and religious cults ...
hmmm,... the Ushiku Daibutsu is from Jodo Shinshu Buddhism ... it always seems a bit silly to me when people not Buddhist visit these places,... anyway, if you really like these things maybe you can go see the Daibutsu in Nokogiriyama. The temple is Sōtō Zen Buddhist so our family is most comfortable here.
Cemetery, Temple, Garden... Theme Park?
Is it the same for 2nd-3rd of January, even after the New Year's?
I was just at the other giant Buddha in Sendai half a week ago! Cool big Buddhas in Japan
Thanks Nathan. You keep making it hard for me to do a Japan visit. I need at least 10 trips to do everything justice. Sooooo much to see 😂
return trips! haha
Double the gaijin, double the fun 🤣
Yes!
So, Luke and Nathan went to see a Big Big Buddha. Nathan composed a little ditty ( soon to be released on Spotify ). These boys met up with some real party animals and nearly missed getting up close and personal, with the Big Big Buddha ( copyright pending on Gaijin Records), but accomplished their goal in the end. Let me just say the gaijin were insignificant when compared to the Big Big Buddha, but their personalities loomed just as large.
You got me singing big big Buddha again lol
First time I hear of this place :-)
Haha wow that’s a first from you!
@ 😂
hmmm,... to be fair, this is Ibaraki Prefecture ... I never go here, not even to the Chibaraki area ... I guess everyone else just associates Ibaraki with rice ...
That is a big big Buddha
Yes haha
Big Big Buddha 😂 love the video man, thanks for including me! Had a fun day with you as always, let’s do it again soon 👋 Hope you enjoyed that taste of Ibaraki
Always fun with you.. back in a few weeks time btw
The family has decided to celebrate Christmas at Suntory Hall and enter the bath at Itou (Izu Peninsula). But a friend wants to eat lunch in Toranomon so I will need to leave Chiba. I'm not quite sure what " golden triangle " is but there are extremely very few foreigners in Hikone, Dogashima and Southern Bōsō Peninsula.
If you're looking for less explored areas of Tokyo the Kita Senju area as well as Jiyugaoka (Meguro City) were pretty chilled and enjoyable to walk around. That's of course if you haven't visited already.
hmmm,... actually,... if you want to visit a place within Tokyo with few to zero foreigners, I would apply to tour Ichigaya-Dai, the SDF headquarters. You will need to submit an application and undergo a government background check. If you are approved you will be issued a tour date and time to appear at the front gate. For everywhere but the old headquarters/museum you will be escorted in both front and back of the group, with attendance taken as you leave each room. The people here will be polite but not necessarily friendly.
How were you able to secure tickets?
Darn. I missed it!
It still is strange to me ... why do foreigners go to Japan .... ? ... anyway, if you really like Japan read Genji Monogatari .... if not then stay away (^_^)
hmmm ... I think it will best for you to learn Japan history and culture ... please begin by reading Hojoki ... it is completely classic ...
Are major stores open the week of New Years?
Sorry I missed the live stream Nathan and Chat. Catch you next time.
First
Hi
hmmm ... not my favorite neighborhood at all (^_^) .... maybe you can visit Mitaka,... it is beautiful and the final home of Dasai Osamu ...
Nice walk !
Yes it was!
15:03 omg! where did JJI get that magicarp???!
Donki! loads of them there I think
Nathan, it’s time for you to print “You found me” cards 😂
you might be right but I think i would be useless at carrying them because I already carry some business cards and its too much to remember lol.
My fav shop in Harajuku Liberty Walk 😁
nice!
hmmm ... Daikanyama is a bit scummy ... nothing is more beautiful than Mitaka ...
A nice little stream. Of course it occurred when I was in my only meeting of the week, which is why I couldn't catch the stream live. Such is life.
haha you caught others!
I went to the melon pan shop today in Asakusa and it was delicious! Fantastic recommendation!
yesss I love it so much
Just arrived today. Sitting at the hotel. Where are you going to stream for Halloween. I might come over and say Hi
damn!! just seen this
@HappyGaijin Couldn't make it though. Was too beat after the flight. Almost fell asleep walking to the Hotel elevator 😅
This neighborhood is nice but not as beautiful as Mitaka ... ww! please avoid Don Quixote, it is terrible for shopping ! ... Mitsukoshi is the best !
It's popular because it's quiet
its different
hmmm,... Shinjuku has become much cleaner. Normally I would not visit but a relative lives here. You may like the SOMPO Museum of Art,... it is a bit small but their exhibits are extremely good. exhibits.
Have fun dude!
I think UA-cam cut out a bunch of audio at the 2:44 mark :( Maybe you got too close to a pachinko parlor blasting evangelion music? Haha.
prob lol UA-cam bein youtube
I woke up early on the chance I might catch you streaming but was not early enough. I saw your Genkan shoe photo and knew you were at a party at an entertaining couples apartment. Then found this stream a little after an hour of you streaming. The Happy Gaijin is where it's at, but I'm not. Such is life. I'll probably catch the meet up stream. Slumber well.
New phone looks good. Excited for the live streams!!
I am actually in Tokyo for New Year’s Day 2025z I was a bit apprehensive about to it. Hearing stories about everything being closed. Thanks for the video pal 👍
