ALL of the main actors in the move are superlative and are their characters perfectly. A very special movie and story, directed with sensitivity and great skill.
Let's not forget the outstanding job Eric Schweig and Jodhi May did playing Uncas and Alice Munro. I personally loved their characters and their chemistry more over Hawkeye and Cora.
As I said earlier I've watched this movie at least once or twice a year and I still find something I didn't catch the last time But this scene in minute five and 30 seconds or Hawkeye has to leave Cora to this day I'm torn and I don't agree I understand about the part of surviving but knowing the blood feud between whites and indigenous people they could have slaughtered everyone there in a blink of an eye and there would be no loving reunion and then I got to tell myself well this is the way the script was written that they don't die but I can't help as much as I get caught up in the story in the idealistic outcomes and I am more an idealist than I am a realist I can't help but feel every time I watch this the reality there was no surviving the blade of the Huron or Iroquois in these blood feuds That only between whites and reds but The European who came and took without asking! Not only did they take but they brought disease pestilence and death If not even the rat!
Please do not ever make an updated version of this movie. This never needs to be redone….this movie is perfect. Yes, it’s not totally historically accurate, but then neither were the books.
Yeah right, Wes Studi is the reincarnation of the reality the movie is telling us. It is awesome, a captivating relieving of the America's turbulent past!!
This is my favorite movie. Period. The musical score is as integral as the amazing acting. It’s a wonderful modernized version of James Fenimore Cooper’s classic book. I don’t have a favorite scene, there are too many incredible moments in the film. And at the very end, Chingachgook’s words are the perfect way to end the movie. (In the original film release version. They botched the end in the directors cut IMO).
The music in the movie is stunning, the scenery is gorgeous, and the acting is terrific. There's action, history, and romance all blending into one heck of a sweeping, epic movie.

*Compared to the number of Europeans who arrived after the American Revolution, the Europeans moving into the* *thirteen British-American colonies was only a trickle vs. the flood that came later.* Even without wars the Natives would have been overwhelmed by the sheer number of European arrivals (Not to mention their lack of immunity to the diseases that were still lethal to Europeans and totally ravagged the Natives. The Native Americans themselves spread these diseases to each other after initial contact with Europeans) The French were not keen on transplanting large numbers of landless (Agricultural Clearances/removals) of people to allow for vast areas of grazing. Although to be fair most of France had much better farmland than the British Isles. (So, this was probably not such a dire problem in France during that period)
As much as I would love to see DDL return to acting, I see clearly how he put his physical body through to create as only he could do. I am happy for him that retired to live contently and happily ever after with his family. Hope gets a grand child who continues his acting talents for future movie buffs like me.

its all imagery and almost no character development. I have NO idea what music she listened to, or why she;s there...none of this stuff translated TO the movie. This is so strange and none of the exposition stuff made it to the movie...where did it go? O_o?
the 1 song is the best thing. the rest is just rushed and wierd and doesn't fit...you did almost no character development in the movie. Pretty girl sees pretty guy....the end. They got like 10-20 lines in the whole movie.

Stunning scenery. Interesting that filmmakers chose to portray the Adirondacks by filming in the mountains of North Carolina instead.
I am not sure about the love story of Hawkeye and Cora. Had to re-write the story ,and sacrifice Duncan.
