Dropping an engine out the BOTTOM of a Chrysler
We all get bored of mundane tasks. For me, that was pulling engines out the old-fashioned way. This video shows me dropping the engine out the bottom of the car, simply because I enjoy trying new methods. This will be my first time uploading a video of this style, so take some of my "cringe" with a grain of salt. Chrysler 300 Engine Replacement.

I just did one today. You don’t gotta take any of that off. Take off the side mount, lower center mount, cowl, cowl support and lower engine down. Comes right out top.
Thanks Buddy, I'll give it a shot
Don’t follow this bozo advice see my comment
@jerrylastname79 you're right. I ended up going out the top and it was super easy
Someone I know did a replacement diesel engine on a 300C. Fucking awful job, and he screwed it up, too. He absolutely refused to even contemplate pulling it out from underneath - why? No idea, but he's no technician, trust me. It came out minus the trans, and that proved to be a massive error. Went to court in the end, as he'd put in a dud engine. I have NO IDEA why he did that - it was an engine he owned out of a condemned Grand Cherokee, so did he think they wouldn't notice it was actually worse than the one they'd accidentally filled with gas instead of diesel? It barely ran, leaked oil and the turbo was kaput. Nasty old Merc diesels. Avoid... Dumb as dirt, but he still has their $10K, approx., and they have no car. Court ruled against him, but he just put the business into his son's name. He's NEVER going to pay them - he's said it in those words. Use someone who knows what they're doing. Looks like you have a fair idea... Nice outcome.
@andysaunders3708 Man that sounds terrible. It's sad that people will do that and then deny responsibility.
Get your audio sorted, my friend. I'll sub for now, but I can barely hear you.
@@andysaunders3708 alrighty, thank you for the feedback.
some things are not meant to do in the driveway lol. Off to the shop it goes.
Thanks for the video
theres actually 3 upper bolts on the left side one in the upper l h corner corner
@brettpontiac you're right, I forgot to mention that corner bolt. 😅
Not all heros wear capes, was just wondering how i was going to get that out
When reinstalling, there’s a roller cup that goes on the pump’s spring, that rides on the shaft that drives the pump. Is there a correct orientation for the roller cup wrt the shaft?
Yes, the correct orientation is setting the one tooth on the side of cup (it's about the size of a pen's ink tube) in line with the groove in the head. The groove is either straight up or straight down, I cannot recall which direction was correct.
It's straight up, in the 12 o'clock position. Another video showed this. I would also suggest removing the battery and battery box, as it allows much more space to maneuver the wrench, extension and socket in there to remove and re-install the lower bolt.
Seems time consuming. I can get to mine by removing just the head unit
Big agree. You can even go under the head unit from the passenger side
I've done mine twice by just removing the center section / head unit also.
Did you make a video of it? Everyone else goes under the passenger glovebox and struggles
@ there are lots of videos of it already on UA-cam. Just search blend door actuator replacement for 09-12 F150’s
@@lakelousiemarco I thought there were multiple actuators and one was down below near the footwell and one was above behind the stereo.
I pulled it out the top. Yes it’s a pain the BEHIND but I did it
Did you find any videos or tech bulletins showing how to bring it out from the top? I haven't found one yet...
@@terf7020 I’m a ford tech so I have access to the workshop manual. What do you need help with?
Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm trying to determine if this is something I can tackle in my garage on jack stands. Mine is a 2013 AWD Escape, and this will really be the most complicated project I've done if I decide to do it myself. Would love to see a video of someone bringing it out the top so I know what else besides cowling and coolant reservoir needs to be removed. I really don't want to attempt removing half axle and subframe components.
“Quick way to remove hemi manifolds” “Lift engine off the motor mounts” That’s not quick
That's what my database wanted me to do. That's not what I did in this video.
@@notamechan1c you don’t have to lift the motor up lol it’s a not a ford! Well fords usually they lift the damn cab off the damn frame 🤦🏻♂️
This is like the engineers on a 2012 Ram said... Let's bolt the AC/transmission cooler to the radiator so it's much harder and time consuming and the owner might just pay a shop or dealership hundreds of dollars just to replace the radiator. It's mind boggling how you spend hours just to do a 30 job.
That recirc door is such a bad design :/ the actuators seem to lose position, keep spinning until they break the door inside the air duct. I really hope I can replace that pulling the dash this way, it seems a lot easier 🤞
I've done the heater core before, and now need to replace that stupid recirculating door as well. Feel this is much "easier" then the two other videos of them stuggling for hours.
@@LPerez Agreed, that's why I searched how to remove the dash lol
Where’s your shop located I need a mechanic lol! Seriously
Boise Idaho
With this removal of the dash. Did you notice if it would be possible to remove the evaporator coil with out removing the steering wheel?
Yes, the steering wheel and airbag can stay attached to the column. But the column coupler bolt does need to be removed.
@@notamechan1c great to hear, I’m getting ready to tackle the dash here shortly. I tried to replace the expansion valve first and that did not work so now it is on the evaporator
@quinnerd88 I have the same problem. My nephew (who works as a mechanic but more on the management side) and I was replacing the expansion valve and we crushed the high side line on the evaporator core trying to put the new valve back on. Now I have to replace the core. So pissed right now. This is a job I do not have the skill or patience for. Absolutely stupid why the car manufacturers designed something where you have to remove the entire dash to replace items that may need serviced or replaced?
I did the passenger side a month ago (very easy) and completed the driver side yesterday (much more labor intensive). I will say this, it can be done without removing the dipstick, or unbolting the exhaust catch pipes. Make sure the dipstick tube goes on the other side of the ac lines. It just takes some wiggling and good positioning of the dipstick tube. Also make sure to turn the steering wheel in a way so the screw on the steering shaft is straight pointing (not facing to the engine or toward you). It probably only gives you a few extra centimeters or so but it was enough to wiggle the manifold downward between the exhaust catch and the side of the wheel well. Once you have unbolted the manifold raise the manifold left side up while also bringing the right side down and simultaneously maneuvering the dipstick tube (there is enough play to do it). Once you can get the left side high enough and right side down, it should just come right out the bottom by your right foot. When putting the new one back in, I figured you’d need as much room as possible so i slid the gasket in after wiggling the new manifold in. I had difficult getting the new one slid in the same way I got the old one out, so I actually came in through the opposite way (front of truck between ac lines and dipstick connector. Probably ill advised but I was able to do it. Scraped up the ac lines a little but it worked. Sorry if I didn’t use proper terminology for everything but I’m just a UA-cam problem solver and hope this helps someone else out. I just wanted to give some positive feedback so this could be attempted without extra steps. Again the game changer for me was positioning the steering wheel in a way so that screw wasn’t catching the dipstick. I couldn’t do it until I rotated the wheel. My truck is a 2017 ram.
What did u use to remove the bolts
I love people who post videos, but can't be bothered to answer a commenters question.
Ty for taking the time to show us. Blessings from above
Dude all you had to do was pull the cowl! Its made to come out the top
Did you find any videos or tech bulletins showing how to bring it out from the top? I haven't found one yet...
You have a Venmo?, I got 10$ for you having by far the easiest method in doing this. Can’t thank you enough, every other way is an absolute disaster, why this isn’t the standard method is beyond me

Just completed this job and couldn't get the manifold out! While some videos said to squeeze this out the top somehow, which I was unable to contort this out at all. Your advice to take the catalytic converter Y down and drop the exhaust off the rubber hangers worked like a charm! Thanks for the great advice!
Thanks for the feedback! Glad it helped!
