Aurora Monsters Kit Development and Painting
In this video, I’m diving into Aurora monsters, both classic and dark ride style. I’ll be sharing my personal Aurora monster models and bringing vintage charm and eerie vibes back to the surface with my own personal touch. For those of you who love the classic Aurora monster models from the '60s, you’ll enjoy watching me breathe new life into these kits,
I’m also unveiling a Nosferatu model kit that channels the same vintage Aurora style. It’s a personal tribute to the iconic 1922 film, capturing the haunting and timeless essence of that terrifying character.
Throughout this process, I’ll share my techniques, from choosing colors to creating shadows and details that make these models come alive. Whether you’re a long-time model enthusiast or new to the scene,

    Wow, I remember these glow-in-the-dark kits from my childhood in the '70s. I had Phantom, Frankie, Hunchback, and Dracula. Not sure whether they were Aurora though, I don't recall that name. I lived in England, so it may have been licensed out.

    When I was a little kid, I built that Creature from the Black Lagoon kit many, many times. Not because I had a lot of them, but because I was only allowed to use Elmer's glue and it fell apart every time I touched it.

    These are really cool. Awesome work! Question for you: You mentioned that you had repainted your old Aurora kits, and they look great. What is the safest way to remove old paint from the kits? I have most of the Aurora monsters from the early 70’s that I built when I was 6 or 7, and they look like they were built and painted by a 6 or 7 year old. I’d love to repaint them, but I don’t want to destroy them in the process. Any tips?

    • @FigureFiend
      @FigureFiend 4 дні тому

      thank you, and for the older enamel paints, its best to prime over and lightly sand any areas that need to be smoothed out. Using an exacto knife as well to clean up any small rough spots. For anything painted with acrylics, simple green and soaking works really well, then hitting them with an old toothbrush. A good visual indicator (enamel vs acrylic) is surface sheen-the enamels of the time where thick and glossy. hope that helps!

    • @RavingMadStudios
      @RavingMadStudios 4 дні тому

      @@FigureFiend Yeah, mine are definitely enamels. Nasty, glossy, Testors enamels, applied very poorly in most cases. I’m afraid that if I prime them I’ll lose most of the detail, but I’ll give it a shot. Might also try giving one of them a soak in L.A.’s Totally Awesome. That stuff removes everything.

    I apologize. I wrote my initial comment about your channel before I watched the video. I had just found your channel and I automatically figured you were doing a review. Again my apologies. As I watched and saw what you were actually doing I was thoroughly impressed! I've attempted to "customize" some Die-Cast cars and Trucks. Easier said than done. I've also considered trying to customize some action figures as well but I haven't gotten the nerve to try it yet. I'm talking about the 6" Hasbro figures. Most don't have cloth good clothes. Molded plastic is usually the norm. That said I'm unsure of what paints to use. How to deal with the existing paint apps, etc. After seeing this video I'm going to look more into this. So again I want to apologize for my impatience commenting but I want to also thank you again for sharing your experience with this and it reignited my thoughts on customizing some action figures. I've recently had some serious health issues, problems, concerns. Pre-Covid-19 I used to make motherboards. I soldered chips, did advanced optical imaging, and did troubleshooting on boards. Then my health started to decline. I ended up hospitalized repeatedly for pneumonia, bronchial pneumonia, and double pneumonia. I spent anywhere between 7-21 days in the 🏥hospital🏥. Many of those days I was in Intensive Care, and a couple of times I was in Cardiac care after a heart attack. I'm now technically disabled, but getting disability isn't an easy task. Odd I've worked since I was 15 and now at 57 I'm having trouble with this. I can barely walk from my apartment to our parking lot. I've been diagnosed with emphysema, heart disease, I've had hip replacement surgery, knee surgery, and now I've learned that I also have a degenerative disc in my neck along with a herniated disc in my back. So my trips to the stores ended. For one I can barely walk. Two, scalpers empty out the shelves daily. Three, it's not cheap having a terminal illness, albeit a slow acting illness. I spent close to ten years caring for my Mom who also had this same illness. The last three years she was bedridden. So I know what's coming. So while I can't hunt for figures or Die-Cast cars I still love the hobby. I love making Dioramas for both figures and my Die-Cast cars. Customizing and/or creating something new with what I have is the next best thing I can try to do. So I thank you again for sparking my interest in this.

    • @FigureFiend
      @FigureFiend 4 дні тому

      I am sorry to hear about your health conditions and hope that you find a way to continue customizing and dioramas, if you do have any examples you wish to share, feel share to share them so others may see your work as well! I appreciate the support and explanation. Take care!

    I have a variety of hobbies I love. One being Die-Cast cars. That's Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and the other brands. But I am also an avid Action Figure collector as well. I loved Mego's World's Greatest Superheroes action figures as a kid. I had them all, even the special mail-in Figures Aqualad, Kid Flash, Speedy, and Wonder Girl. I wish I had half of my classic toys, but sadly they are gone. But I restarted my collections. Star Wars, Marvel Legends figures from Toy Biz and Hasbro. DC Universe figures and McFarlane figures. All in 3.75" and 6" sizes. I recently got really into NECA. The Ultimate Friday the 13th Part III Jason Voorhees and the Ultimate Nightmare on Elm Street part 3 Freddy Krueger were my first buys. Since then I've bought a 🎃Halloween🎃 Michael Meyers, and even some other non horror movie figures. So seeing these was a must see video. I immediately subscribed as well. Any video creator's that do more than the standard more popular figures is definitely a must see. Gives me insight on more that the standard stuff. Thank you for that. Take care and God Bless.

    Greetings from the UK 🇬🇧 - so much to comment on here! Firstly, love your "sensible" paintjobs of the Aurora kits - worthy of a video on their own! Excellent work on the Nosferatu kit - especially the base (these could be a thing!) and I absolutely love the idea of mini versions (are they in scale with Aurora's Monster Scenes?) which is also something you should definitely pursue if you do further kits. I think I understand why you chose this IP (public domain AND a new movie) but we already had the Monarch kit - how about something PD that no-one has done? Lastly, I PROBABLY ONLY SAW THIS VIDEO BY CHANCE - you need to get out there more - how about contacting a channel like Model Club TV??? I'm now off to look at your other videos and store! All the best for this and, hopefully, future ventures 😊😊😊
