Silently Tying a Beetle Bug Coachman | Relaxing Fly Tying

This fly is the cover image of a "Favorite Flies for Oregon" by John Shewey. It is also the first pattern in the book; a book that I've decided to tie my way through. This fly - the Beetle Bug Coachman - while invented by John Dose in the 1920's, was made popular by Meier & Frank sporting goods department tier Audrey Joy in the mid 1940's. It became a tradition for patrons to watch her tie this...

Blowtorch Nymph | Silent & Relaxing Fly Tying

I’m still getting the hang of tying this supposedly successful nymph. The Olsen’s Blowtorch Nymph is a cool, buggy pattern, and I (am trying to) enjoy the challenge of working with the peacock ice dub. I find it very difficult to make a tight dubbing noodle. But, nothing a few quick trims and tight wraps with the ribbing material won’t fix. Whether you're a seasoned angler looking for fly fishi...

Hello Miss. I have been tying for over 35 years now. But never thought of how very calming it can be. Your videos are truly inspiring, but most importantly, they are relaxing for me. I sometimes get frustrated with my tying, arthritis makes it difficult at times. But, watching your videos somehow keeps me inspired to keep on tying. I think you for that. Best regards from Ohio. You should use slotted tungsten beads when tying on jig hooks. When you are using a standard bead it defeats the point of the jig hook. Nice video :)

nice work on the pattern and I really like your production style (video production). I see some patterns where the tail fibers are trimmed and new ones brought in to form the body but I use an approach similar to your's. Gives a taper to the body. looking forward to your other videos.
