Bushmen Thermo Tarp Review - First Look.
Wow, this was a popular but polemical video! I loved it. Great to see your awesome channel getting more and more fans, as is deserved.
Excellent...... i have subscribed
Ive had one for years, its my go to knife for almost everything. Great weight, shape and essily cleaned and sharpened, I wasnt expensive. Id certainly not hesitate to buy another.
basically, a decent knife.
Like the review. Didn't go that far but have few mora's (Since the KJ Eriksson) and recipe is the same: If you are sane user, you 've got yourself a knife for life. Glad to hear they keep it up with the quality till this day. Have been flirting with this one for longest but truly have no need for small DIY household jobs. Doesn't mean I won't treat myself one day ;)
I've not given this knife the love it deserves (hence the rust photo) A testament to the quality perhaps. It's a great outdoors/camping knife. Maybe a little overkill for around the house. But if you're treating yourself, who am I to argue ;-)
Again? C'mon guy. This knife, and all its relatives, has been reviewed a hundred times. Kind of wasting your time and ours.
After only finding a handful of long term reviews of this knife, I thought it was worth doing. Is there something particular you would like to see?
@@alecsibley3415 I agree with you. There are a million reviews on this knife out there, but yes there are very few where this knife has actually been worked for several years that I have found either. So yes, it was worth taking the time to do it to advise on its long-term use, especially for someone looking to buy one that would need information on time spent rather than just some stupid out of the box tabletop review.
@@ancientsouloutdoors4088 ^THIS
What are the full specifications including the weight
Pretty much available specifications are contained within the video. Most are in the first 30 seconds.
Great review... tone down the music. Your observations are enough. I've had the Robust for nigh a decade. Inexpensive workhorse. Cheers from western Alberta.
I was trying something a little different with background music. Criticism is always welcome here. Glad you liked the review. Thanks
Another phenomenal video! Very authentic, and the Siberian fire was killer...when you sleep in a sub-zero freezing forest without a tent, and end up TOO WARM, it's safe to say you have maxed out your fire-making stats 😁
I wish that were true. There's always something new to learn.
@@alecsibley3415 That's what a master would say!
I like that you explain your tought process and show your small mistakes. It makes me realize that some "truth" is lost in typical over-polished bushcraft videos. Keep up the good work!
There are attempts to pass on knowledge while making these. I hope they make sense to the kind folk who watch my content. I think 'keeping it real' is the best policy. It's better than flexing ones ego, in my opinion. Thanks for your support.
I couldn't stop laughing when you said that the cutting teeth are manganese steel 😂😂😂 Any engineer or metallurgist will appreciate how ridiculous that is - ebay ad claims, you've got to love them.
I know what you mean. Some claims are just laughable. To help me understand better, could you kindly explain why manganese steel claim is ridiculous please?
@@alecsibley3415 sure, I will try. Basically, manganese requires work hardening to become wear resistant. So it gets a hardened surface after a given time, while retaining some plasticity under the surface. It works well in something like stone crushers that have a large, flat surface area. For something like a saw with a small cross section of working face, this would mean that it would already start wearing before achieving a hardened state, i.e. the teeth on the saw would wear/blunt quite rapidly, when compared to a steel that saw blades are normally made from, e.g. high carbon or hss steels - these steels are already pre-hardened to a given value and do not require any work hardening. So a seller saying their cutting teeth are made from manganese steel is laughable, but must sound different, exciting and new to those not familiar with the subject. If it was the ideal material for saw blades, then every leading manufacturer would be using it. From a cost perspective, manganese is cheaper than his steel. Hope that helps. Sorry to sound like a nerd, but it is what it is.
Aha, makes sense. That was the perfect moment to nerd out. Not sure if it makes a difference, but the sellers ad. didn't specify what part was MS, so the buyers assumption would often be 'all of it'
Another great video! Very knowledgeable. I'm seeing a lot of really cheap bushcraft/camping equipment coming out of Temu, and I wondered what their quality was like...
It's a lottery with questionable quality control.
@@alecsibley3415 Wow, sounds like my life!!
That all took some effort, well done sir.
Thank you for your kind words.
Would be interesting to see some martial arts actor use such a saw…
...to cut wood? As a weapon it would wouldn't be as effective as the movies portray. The cutting teeth would just get stuck on the recipient, especially clothing.
What a fab upload! Great video. Think me me eating my curled-up sandwich outside Gregg's on the High Street, while you are exploring verdant volcanoes that look like something out of an open-world fantasy... Also...I knew I'd seen that forest somewhere: ua-cam.com/video/ChqDVHT-NtA/v-deo.html

Hold on to you underpants...there's 2 more parts to this video.😉
Awww yyeeaahhh😊 Can not wait 😊
Hi Alec, are you from Gayton
No. But I did grow up there.
I thought so, I know your sister...good to see you doing bushcraft, take care
Great review! I always wondered if these were really worth having. I thought the energy spent cutting was far greater than what you would spend on the regular saw you have shown. Now I have my answer.
I'd have to compare it to a saw that's made for the same width of log to give an honest answer. This 65cm saw is recommended for logs up to 10cm (3 inches) thick. My Silky Big Boy clearly gets the job done more efficiently as it's made for larger logs.
I know its awkward because you need the length, but would a steeper pitch on the roof help prevent the water from soaking into the moss and therefore reduce the drips? The rain would run off quicker
It would. Sadly the tree trucks used a the supports aren't that easy to move.
Love the shelter. Just a thought, if you pour some water into the billy, the night before (when its liquid), you can put it straight on the fire in the morning, doesn't matter if its frozen or not and you're not having to wait to thaw the water in the canteen, before you can pour it into the Billy.
Good God man. That orange monstrosity. You say that you are short so it will probably sit lower on most people, you haven't met me, oh but you have, all 5" 3' of me. Nice and informative.
I don't wanna be that dude, but the PLCE kit wasn't introduced until the 90's. The Falkland era guys wore GS bergens. The OG PLCE was part of the 90 pattern kit upgrades and the DPM version came with the soldier 95 upgrades.
Wow! You're right. So many of us have been misinformed. They are most often advertised as PLCE. A genuine thank you for correcting me.
@@alecsibley3415 It's not so much a correction because technically we have been using PLCE since about 1860. It's usually referred to by it's pattern. i.e 58 pattern webbing, etc. But it was always PLCE. The modern Cordura kit just kind of pick up the full PLCE bit too. So you weren't really incorrect. It's more the name it's known by changed a little. So the Falklands guys did use PLCE but just not the modern Cordura type stuff.
Hi are. You still using this tarp and does it reflect heat as it suggests? Thanks.
Yes, I am still using this tarp. It does reflect heat. You can feel the difference. I love using it during the winter.

Abuse? Oh, my lobbing the packs about. 😆
Lol. " If you have OCD...definitely something you will have fun with."

Another great video. Lots of stuff we'd like to see coming in 2024, keep it up!
I cannot believe anyone would want to leave the traffic, filth, overpopulation and general ignorance of their birthplace for the spiritual solitude of the woods, pristine snow, and fresh food cooked over an open fire. …oh no wait, I would
It’s been awhile, since I woke up in the woods never gets old.😊 there’s nothing worse than trying to get out of the sleeping bag in the morning. It’s just too cosy😅
Great vid thanks. I like your jacket do you mind me asking the make/model please 👍
No, I don't mind you asking... It's a military surplus fleece. Dutch army. There are 3 versions, Helly Hanson make one of them. I'll give you all the 'model' numbers on the label to help you find an identical super warm fleece. It's a mid-layer really. Manufacturer: SEYNTEX NSN: 8405-17-109-2874 BO: 87205140727 NAAT: is just the size. If you search for "Dutch army winter fleece", you should find many sellers. Good luck
@@alecsibley3415 👍thanks
Yeah, I've been collecting packbacks too now. I'm from Wisconsin, USA. I do have the British bergen. I like to get that Ludwig one. I just got another pack, supposedly from ww 2. I'm not sure about it. But it's still fun to collect.
If you're collecting them, The Ludwig is a must.
Suddenly my own rucksack addiction pales into insignificance….😂
Oh, it gets worse. There several more at home! I do think having the same pack in different colours/patterns is probably just me being indulgent.
Glad to see you're back ... Hope you can start doing a video/ show, one a week or at least two a month.. Hope you had BLESSED CHRISTMAS and hope you have BLESSED NEW YEAR...
Thanks. The same to you. I would love to have the time to make more videos, sadly life has other plans at the moment.
Unfortunately, I understand... Maybe one a month, maybe one every other month... Anyway mate, hope things slow down for you, take care and GOD BLESS...
Hi Alec, where you from?, what area do you go bushcrafting/wild camping
Could this be my first 'stalker'? I can't go into too much detail on such a public forum. I'm from England. All the videos to this point in time are filmed in Southern Sweden.
is the "Dutch Army Contract "STING" Gen 2" Suitable for an average height guy, I'm 5 Foot, 9 Inches or 175cm Tall, bag is said to be 75cm high, level-ish with my solders, I thinkg the bottom of the bag would be just below my glutes, too big? anyone 5ft9in/175cm tried one?
Oh yes. You'll have no trouble. It can accommodate users from 5ft 4 and beyond 6ft. The top of the rucksack doesn't sit at your 'solders', but higher. I hope that helps.
Good to see you Sir you are there like so many packs 😊
You are just like me so many packs they just gather over time
The scary part is...the collection just keeps growing.
Both interesting and entertaining thanks!
Beware of the Arwy" Sting "..it is a lookalike from the lowe alpine ...the Dutch army replaced the real one for a cheaper copy made b y Arwy ....NOT THE SAME QUALITY!!!
Thats good to know. Thanks for sharing this information.
Crack up Alec! It sure gets cold though eh, top effort! Snowy bush looks awesome. 😊
So, you don't like it because it's old and some may or may not come with side pouches? That sounds like the suppliers problem and a personal problem.
You could say that's the gist of it. If one could see the product before making a purchase, things would be different.
I got my Sting for just under $100 shipped, with both pouches included and no visible wear beyond the waist buckle being a bit damaged. It'd be a lot cheaper if I lived in Europe (Americans get a hefty markup on euro surplus). You always need a trustworthy vendor with a good return policy when buying surplus.
That sounds like something the devil would say: Their is no Heaven without Hell, or in another way. Their could be no Heaven if their was no Hell, thereby glorifying hell a place of Everlasting Torment! I guess this is why God tells you not to glorify the things of this world, because if you have eyes to see, you would be amazed how many of our everyday products that we use have references to the Devil like this!
I’ve just done a quick google and those BW packs are £50 more new than the Sting Bergans I’ve seen.
Gosh! That is a shock. Maybe it's a location thing.
