I love that same deep rich Motown tone over many modern bass player’s thin high treble piano wire sound.Bass sounds best with that warm muted old style tone.

Great demo! I really love this new traditional version replacing the previous modern looking Shorty. I have a Hofner 500/1 Contemporary that I love and it would be great to get one of these to match it. Also,, I agree. It sounds great but would be much better with flat wound strings. I own this bass but in sunburst finish. Everything you say about it is true. This is why I rarely play it and stick to my Fender Mustang short scale basses. I do think the red finish is really nice.

A very enthusiastic and enjoyable video. For me, I prefer a tone that's heavier on bass and lighter on treble. I own a full size Harley Benton bass guitar among others in my collection. I own a hollow body and solid body ukulele and play in a large use group. Turning up the treble gives too much string noise, as demonstrated. I don't think that sound replicates and upright bass. I dial in a tone on my ukulele bass that does sound like a double (upright) bass. To get that, my volume is less than 10, treble is never above 5 and bass is around 8. In the Q&A, Oyaji admits he used a small guitar practice amp, That doesn't work for anyone's taste in guitar tone and at higher volumes will stress a guitar speaker (usually in an open back cabinet). I'll say again that this was a good video. I would trade my Misoo solid body for the HB in a heartbeat based on appearance. HB makes some very good stuff at a reasonable price.

Thanks for the review, the bridge cannot be finely tuned, but can be rised / lowered for the action? And what about back and forth for intonation? For the case I think you can find some that fit solid body bass ukuleles such as the kala SUB u-bass which are more popular than the HB but are basically the same size :)

Yes, as long as the cable remains plugged into the active bass, the built-in amplifier is turned on and therefore consumes energy all the time and the battery runs empty. This is the same with all active bases. Thomann says, the Uke Bass - Baritone Uke Gigbag would fit for this sweet baby. I am also pondering about to get one...... maybe the fretless? <sigh>

I love your enthusiasm. Great, well-balanced review! BTW, if you play your Hofner through a full-sized bass amp in louder environments, the body resonance will start to influence the tone, giving you more sustain and big, thick low end. As others have pointed out, flats or rounds from La Bella, DR and others will improve the tone significantly. Wilkinson WJ-28N tuners have a better gear ratio and are smooth as butter. They're a drop-in replacement- all you need is a small screwdriver, and you can use them with the stock ferrules!

If you get a small container with a sponge soaked in mineral oil and dip your fingertips in it you will improve the sound tremendously.

18:06 I had a similar sounding problem in the E string of my eb0 bass, apparently the string was twisted on itself. I fixed it by loosening the string, removing it from the bridge (not the tuner) and letting it freely rotate on its axis, then hooking the ball end on the bridge again and tightening the string.
