Finial Box
I have been showing these on my Facebook page and was asked to make a video. This box is designed after Cindy Drozda boxes. I am practicing for a class from her next month.

3SideBowl

Making a 3 sided bowl on the lathe. I think the 3 sides could be cut on the bandsaw instead of the lathe, but more fun to do it here.

A fun project, but don't plan on every one working. Maybe 4 out of 5 you will get to flip over. One thing is don't try to spin the top too hard or fast, it is when it starts to slow down that it flips over.

A little about the Barnes #7 scrollsaw, both designs. Someone contacted me about some of the measurements on the saw.
Ótimo trabalho, parabéns!
How does the top blade holder work? It seems very quick indeed 👍👍👍😎
Not the most sophisticated video I've ever seen but a really nice exposition of technique. As a newbie I found it very educational. When I saw how close Rick's fingers get to the blade my first thought was "Boy. I'll bet he doesn't have to cut his fingernails very often." Double stick tape trick: don't cut the backing when you cut the tape. Stick the tape to the work piece but peel the backing off before cutting the tape. This leaves a leader you can use to easily start the peel back when you next use the tape. richard -- Don’t listen to the person who has the answers; listen to the person who has the questions. - Albert Einstein
Great quick demo video. I like the curved drill bit. Can you use it to drill curved holes? ;>)
Many thanks for this Rick. I'm restoring a #7 and have to replicate the long-lost tension arm and treadle -- and man, your dimensions are just what the doctor ordered!
Thanks for the video. I learned a lot. I haven't tried inlay yet and this made me want to give it a serious try! I wish I could get my blades out that easy... I have a Harbor Freight scroll saw and have to do a lot to get a blade out and tightened each time... maybe I can afford better sometime down the road... Anyhow, Thanks for sharing!
What type of blade are you using for this?
Great presentation!! Your approach makes a beginner comfortable...except for the skew...ain't goin there:-) Phil
What model Delta saw is that? I'vejust bought a used Q3 40-650 and I'm very pleased with it.
That was great! Thank you for sharing this! Can I ask, what kind of CNC machine is this? Looking to eventually get one, key word, eventually. Thanks for your time!
Great video! You make it look so easy! Thank you for the tips and sharing.
Thanks, Rick! After seeing your great finial boxes at the meeting I was hoping to watch how you turned them. Thanks for making the video.
Have you tried the masking tape and super procedure ?
Wonderful guidance, thank you
Where do you buy the double sided tape?
Just retired my 22" dinosaur of 30 yrs and unpacking my 30" Excelsior. Can't wait to try this. Thanks for the video

New subscriber...Great instructional video show Rick....!
Hi Rick, I believe I have one of the original barnes scroll saw designs with the wood slat, what would be a value range on something like that. Do you have any mores details on these can't find anything online. Thanks -Josh
I paid under $1000 for mine.
Depends on the complexity of the pattern, a 2R or a 5R. Different blades will just change the angle of the table to where the parts fit.
what number blade do you use?
dope
When using this type of tape lay it on and pull backing and only cut the sticky layer..you then have an tab of backing to pull next time..so easy and saves fiddling.
Terrific article Rick. You are very special.
Very cool. Nice video.
We will find out on tonight's chat.
Great, I am always using packing tape, I would like to see what ***** would say for that ;)
I have many more videos on my web page www.scrollsaws.com
Rick need more videos from you ...like the way you do things
Thanks for sharing this with us and your valuable safety experience lesson learned / advise,
Nicely done Rick. Some day I hope to learn how to use a lathe.
Thank you for the video. That is beautiful figure in the bowl.
do you sell these anywhere?
really well explained, excellent work flow.
I think I would cut back a little on the recipe to 1/3 cup salt, 1/2 cup pepper, 1 oz. rosemary, 2 teaspoons sage, but still the 25 cloves of garlic. Also I would cover with the roaster lid for the whole cooking time, the potatoes and carrots were a little dry cooked open like I did it this time.
