Whats with these American trucks in Australia? So many at the Melbourne 4x4 show.

Some of these American trucks in Australia seem so impractical. Whats the story with them? I visited the 4x4 show and purchased a few things. I saw a great new camper trailer from @goldfieldscampers6024 which looks pretty good. As well as a really impressive setup for disabled people in 4x4.

I never thought I would ever have one, now I cant camp without it.

I found that an awning with wall tent worked well when surrounded by dingoes on the Gunbarrel Highway. Jipping in the floor would be more security (which I did not attach that night). Dingoes howled close to the wall but did not attempt to did under the wall. Only thing left out of the vehicle was a teatowel which they took.
Widow makers tend to fall in dead calm conditions especially out here. There's a major difference between illegal and unlawful
I've heard this advice .. if you park your caravan overnight somewhere in an isolated place (highway lay-by, bush etc, non caravan park) ... do the following : Position the caravan so the door is in close proximity to a substantially large tree. That way an undesirable or worse cannot park his vehicle up against the caravan door, trapping you and family inside. Offender is then at liberty to do anything he likes .. steal wheels or any property, tamper with your vehicle or worse.
Thats a great tip mate
Sorry mate not a go at you, but what has it come to that we are spend $4,000 on something, and what, are we not to expect the most basics of functionality like a comfortable mattress? My home 12 inch thick mattress with springs, foam, and latex was only $400. Swags worth $350 can make them comfortable. Can't even throw in a jintzy led light? What a load of rubbish!! Genereic Chinese stuff (that's why it looks so much like a Darche, they are made in the same place). Camping brands are absolute crap. Originall ones before the scammers came in like oztent and james baroud still offer quality but everything else that has popped up in last 8 years and all over youtube...
Cant remember if this is the video I compared it to a Harley seat. For some people it will be fine, for others not so. I tend to agree with you about the lack of Led light. Chinese manufacturing has come a long way in recent years. Not saying perfect, far from it. But its definitely better.
Not going to claim to be an expert but if you’re looking at GU patrols it’s well known the td42 is a more reliable motor than the zd30. Cars with the td42 will be more expensive to buy and run. The later model zd30 common rail engines (07 onward) are much more reliable than the earlier direct injection ones. The zd30 in pre facelift GUs (pre 04) have oiling issues and will blow up so stay away from those.
Sweet, thanks mate. Appreciate it
Mental health and drug use are more prevalent these days.Setting up camp one evening, i encountered an over friendly anoying female that after about 15 mins had a male backup suspicous character suddenly appear. i left the capsite and went further up the road. Remaining friendly and courtious averted trouble.
Good call I reckon mate
I soundproofed my Troopy with a CarBuilders kit, and it made a good difference. I did it myself, and it took over a day to fit everything, so it's not a quick hour or two. I think I paid about $1K to get all the components, and it added 20Kg or so to the weight (more than I thought!). CarBuilders have pre-cut kits these days for 70 series, so probably easier to fit out than the kit I got.
Thanks mate. Im thinking for me it will take a good few days stripping out the car, installing and then refitting out the car. So you are happy you did it?
Toyota prado mate
I think thats a bit out of his budget.
Only because I hate to stoop when driving I own a Hilux the shelf in a 76 may sit different I would find one to look at
True. It is something I do think about.
Ultra PDX 12k winch 21kgs $1.2k. 7yr wty electrical, water & mechanical. Not fast but never let me down. Had Carbon previously but water ingress issues. Considered Runva but 31-35kgs.
Excellent! Thanks mate
Also I have a roof console love it Opted not to get the T option because it lowers the sun visors and you have to bend to see under them
So you went with the centre only one?
Could the light's on the camper simply be flipped 180 ??
Hmm, interesting idea. Not sure, Ill check it out.
"The Toyota is agricultural." Oh, you sweet summer child ;-) Welcome to the world of old school LR Defenders where every drive is a ride in a tumble dryer and every Toyota is a Rolls Royce! I know, I know, self-inflicted wound but, hey, you either love them or you don't. Absoulutely agree on only doing what is right for you. There is a huge difference between 'off-roading' where you are looking to stress your vehicle to it's limit and touring/overlanding where your vehicle gets you where you want to go and, more importantly, gets you back again. Cheers from over here!
HAHAHA Ive spent plenty of time in the rovers too. The cruiser is like a limo in comparison! Thanks mate

Do not understand any circumstances let your son buy anything with the dreaded ZD30 in it. Just steer clear of them. TD42 all the way, and I’m a Toyota man

I've been setting up a new dual cab ute. As I started spending my hard earned cash, my wife says " Do you want it ? Or need it ?. And she's so right. We don't all need a full on set carting an extra 500+ kgs for no good reason.
want or need 100%
No sound deadening in my 76. I drive with windows down a lot so it'd be pointless. Noise is still very acceptable on rare occasions all windows are up. Passengers can wear ear muffs if they reckon it's too noisy.

We have a 270 campboss awning on the MUX. Lights on 3 of the bars. White and yellow lights plus dimmable. Works great.
Does it fold up in the awning, or do you need to set it up each time?
@@Haveacrack76 the lights are along the underside of the arms. Plug them in to usb port. They fold up like any 270 awning.
Mate I use to have a fully kitted out 100 series have traded it and brought a d'max a while back really all you need is a good set of muddies would love you to do a video on camping spots along the Murray where to go etc
Ive been thinking about that type of video. Its a long river though ;)

G'day Shane, I just fitted a Hardkorr awning light kit to my 270 - does 3 arms with cool white and amber with dimmer controls. Seems to decent, will test it out this weekend.
Does it fold up in the awning, or do you need to set it up each time?
@@Haveacrack76 I only put it last weekend and it folds up with the awning- it is self sticking to the awning bars, so designed to stay in place. You do have to give a bit of thought to where the wires will run, as there are three arms with plugs hanging off them now, but it tucked in ok for me.
@@Jokkles Thaks mate
@@Haveacrack76 I used the lights over the weekend- love them! One cig plug and one connection to the loom and that was it. Very quick to set up for use and good light where I wanted it. Hopefully will last me a long time, very happy.

Digger , just get a winch !! I do a lot of solo travel and l have a warn winch it’s save my bacon 4 times !! I got bogged on Murray River , solo trip, about 3 years ago and if didn’t have a winch l would still be there ! The winch is great investment. Keep the good work , enjoy your videos !
Cheers mate, its on the cards for sure.

Totally agree only set up for what you need I have 100 series turbo diesel 2” lift draw fridge and kickass oven runs off 100 amp lithium in the back nitto trailer grappler tyres factory fitted winch never used it kings draws and those solar covers will try the oil that’s it toured all over the outback for years all I need .my grandfather used to camp on the Murray he said it use to be clear water hey how’s that enjoy

Been up to the Quidong River and nearby Delegate?
No, but Ive just looked it up. Looks interesting for sure.
60 years since I went there with my dad. Might have changed a bit lol
Hi Shane, good video roof console to go for. I got one in the FJ that is great for maps and necessary paperwork. Funny how you asked about a winch, I put my winch on the FJ, and to be honest with you. I never used to get myself out of trouble, yet it's always somebody else. As for the brand, I will say that dirty word, Kings. Its been on the FJ for nearly 9 years and never had an issue. It's all about maintenance. Great conversation starter about what you need for your 4WD. Keep up the good work
HAHA thanks Ed. Nothing wrong with Kings stuff. Well most kings stuff anyway.
Great video mate. Duty First!
Cheers Bro
Hey mate, been loving the videos. Some honest feedback for you: not a fan of the camera tracking you everywhere you move - gets a bit annoying and motion-sicky for me. P.S. thanks for the tyre deflator recommendation the little auto deflators are great. Keep up the great work 👍
Ahh thats good to know. Thanks mate. Ive always been in two minds about it. Maybe just move the tripod more ;)
I think the console over the windscreen would be a winner if it doesn't get in your way vision wise or head space wise. I can't see any other reason not to gain that extra and handy storage. I like the simple is best approach to 4wd mods and am trying to utilise it with my current build. I won't scrimp on tires, they must be e rated with 3 ply sidewalls. A 2" lift is always a good investment too using quality brands. Minimal weight is a major goal too for a tourer imo. You have a very nice set up there, use the KISS philosophy. Cheers
Thanks mate. Still thinking about the type of roof console. Centre one or along windscreen.
Good advice!
Cheers mate
Well said ! But 🤫 😂😂

Having lived in a war zone in Southern Africa for years, carrying a firearm was a part of normal life . Same goes to say regarding the fear factor . Australia is risk averse and living here I noticed people don’t like taking risks . My dog 🐕 travels with me and he is a good early warning system. Always carry a deterrent aswell. The biggest risk I guess is falling branches you mentioned and the wildlife.
Thanks mate. Good insights
Never had a problem so far been doing it for fourth years. But I always carry the big eyes ya just never know

"Didnt get out of my vehicle bcs of the handbrake" Me: Cruiser then. We all know that pain.
AHHAHA my mechanic has is dialed in now.
I go camping with my dog, mostly autumn and winter only, here in OZ, I do it mostly in the New England, I have a spot where it gets down to -8C nearly all the time. I dont have a fire or heating or an electric blanket, I do have a -30F down sleeping bag, and a -15F sleeping bag for my dog, it covers both of us. I don't have any heating in the camper or tent whatsoever, I am usually out for 6 weeks, and after the first week of cold nights me and the dog are used it. It is mainly cause I am old, and need to get up to use a "P" bottle a couple of times at night, so I want to be able to handle the cold at that time. Am also ex-army,(1 TPT Squadron/161 Recce Squadron/ 1 ATSR) slept many a freezing cold nite on exercise and or training, maybe that's why I can still handle the cold today. EDIT: Not to say I wont use heating but it has to be at least -10 C before I start thinking about that.
Nice mate, if it works, it works. Why change it? 1 TPT Squadron/161 Recce Squadron at Holsworthy? sees you around my time I reckon.

@@Haveacrack76 hahahaha no worries
i actually watch channels like these to get tips because me and my 7 yr old son lived in a tent for about a month, I still keep the ute set up with items to camp when we need to because our housing situation is not great.. so no we are not all rich living it up etc... and frankly the constant flow of ridiculous caravan set ups (which most of the time probably sit idle in a yard) means finding a spot for us to "live" at times is painful / expensive. lot of disparity in Australia now. (and his ipad is my chance to get an hour or two of rest lol)
That sucks mate. This time of year we see caravans all the time (our town seems to be a stop over point for those heading north) but outside of the winter-spring, we see far less. I imagine them all sitting in garages.
We’ll said mate. Camping is the best all round life experience in this great country of ours. 🍻

Well said Shane. Don’t need the latest 300 series cruiser and 150k caravan. Have to find what’s reasonable and affordable. Keep it simple I say.

Hey mate where do you live. I feel I go camping where you do. I'm in Yarrawonga
Im down the river a bit, in Cohuna
also Marketplace and Gumtree are your friend - lots of people selling camping gear so you can get a bargain if you are starting out and if camping doesn't work out for you, you have not spent a fortune - I am just starting out and have got lots of good stuff cheap

Pretty sure it has to be in raw and you shake the phone for 30 seconds to enable
You use a monopod and bend at the knees.
