*The Origin Story*
▶️ Every year for winter solstice, I release a new piano album,
this one in collaboration with the talented Ralph Daub @ Ralph Daub Photography -
who has kindly provided the photos for this album.
As pianist, I took lessons from very young age,
eventually abandoning the structure of lessons to follow my own learning.
Perhaps owing to the excess of structure in my life,
musical improvisation was one way through which I expressed my freedom.
Whether on stage with the alto sax - or later recording piano according to the elemental healing tones of Chinese Medicine (each going with a particular region of the body, emotion, organ system and psychospiritual process) -
I found home in improvisation through simple 4-chord sequences.
In spite of my lack of professional expertise,
a great number of listeners have found my music useful for:
▶️ calming anxiety
▶️ improving yoga, tai chi, or hypnotherapy
▶️ Improving sleep, concentration, and heart-rate control
✅ For testimonials, read the comments on some of my highest-watched videos
(now close to 1,000,000 views).
This most recent “Ode to Mt. Hood” -
Which includes a sequence of songs played in the themes of these ancient Elemental Healing Sounds (with the Spirit of Mt. Hood (“Wy-East”) -
was originally conceived on my morning walks through SW Portland,
where Mt. Hood could be seen "wearing a different outfit" everyday.
As I stopped to take a picture, prior to or after my morning Tai Chi,
I thought “gosh” I should eventually make a piano album “Ode to Mt. Hood,”
with the picture's I'd collected throughout the seasons.
This was early 2020. . (it's now 12/2023.)
Since that time I followed “the Call,”
A Deep Desire for Nature’s Creative Inspiration - bringing me to the Columbia River Gorge (USA) -
An incredible section of the Columbia River (as it flows between Washington and Oregon towards the Pacific Ocean), characterized by majestic waterfalls, volcanic rock towers, and forest trails.
Although I continued to take Photos with the “Ode to Mt. Hood" in Mind, -
It wasn’t until my first trip to the Dalles, Oregon,
when I found myself in Psorosis Park at Sunset -
Where a Green-Orange Glow illuminated both Mt. Adams (Pahto^) to the North
and Mt. Hood (“Wy’East”^) to the East -
that I *thought* I'd taken the final photo.
[^these are some of the supposed Native American names for these mountains; included here to acknowledge their older names (though historians think these names may have been contrived by European settlers, albeit to acknowledge the original stewards of this land].
Of course, it wasn’t until one year later, when I summitted the Coyote Wall -
A Massive Basalt Rock Plateau That Overlooks The Great Columbia River,
Whose Slopes Stretch up into the Clouds -
Past Winding Creeks and Waterfall -
With ever more grandiose views of Mt. Hood -
[[during which same time I also Received the name for my clinical practice]] -
that I knew I’d taken the final Hood photo.
It was *finally* time to record. .
Or, So I thought . . !
Perhaps I was resisting the great ambition I sought to bring to the album;
Or . . was pursuing another grandiose vision (as is my wont in life). .
But, following the Flow - I reached out to a several local photographers whose work I'd been seeing in the online Gorge community.
Why not make this a collaborative process?
🌲
Although I’d originally intended on gathering photos from 10 locals -
The first artist to respond
shared photography so meticulously curated,
so full of richness, love, and adventurous Spirit -
I increasingly felt his photos deserved a platform of their own!
Enter Ralph Daub, of Ralph Daub Photography - a local Nature Photographer whose curated collection is available in the form of 2024 calendars here: ralphdaub.com/calendars/p/2024 [[if you get one for You, you can get another at 20% off as Gift]].
🌲
After the photos were received, the album was recorded in one single session;
as if it had been stored somewhere deep, waiting for its time.
I did not feel the need to include any of my hundreds of Hood Photos collected over the years for this very moment (though you may seem some at the very end :))
They simply paled in comparison to Ralph's Artistry.

    At what frequency is this tuned to? 440hz, 432hz or other frequency?

    • @wholeBody
      @wholeBody 20 днів тому

      Good day! I’m pretty sure it was recorded at A4=440 Hz, though all my later music is recorded at 432.1 Hz. You can bet that I (my body, mind, spirit) was tuned to Earth-Frequency when this was recorded ;) At the time of recording, I was practicing 2-3 hrs Tai chi and qigong daily.

      Thank you Rodrigo! I am thrilled the poem speaks to you. It was the result of years of learning Chinese, copying famous poems in Chinese calligraphy, and then, finally - writing my own! It fit the theme of this album, so I included it. Cheers, to a fulfilling year, filled with the embodiment of spiritual dreams! Moto

    While I appreciate all the tracks, Track 4 (Wood) sounds to me, as I accompany it, to be recorded in the key of A Major vs. E (as stated in your description). Am I incorrect? Thanks for all …

    • @wholeBody
      @wholeBody 3 місяці тому

      Hi Jay, thank you for your engagement with the music! Wonderful to hear you’re using it as backing; and I am curious what you’re accompanying with? :) Yes, you’re correct. In most research, E is the Wood or Jué 角 tone; but when I recorded this I felt that A major moreso capture the feeling I wanted; and given the prominence of the note E in the A major chords, that I’d stick with A. (Or, Perhaps I was lazy and more comfortable playing in A than E and that was the deciding factor?). But I do remember that A simply felt more “resonant” then. Cheers, Motoyuki

    🙌 Greetings and thanks for this topic: Meal habits‼️ The internet is filled with all kinds of information about nutrition, diets, recipes and so on. Meal habits on the other hand like what, when and how to work with the natural function of the body, that kind of awareness would be a wonderful enrichment, I think. In this complex world it's all about time and money saving. So it's no wonder we tend to consume what's advertised and prepared instead of walking the natural way by trusting our own body. Teaching and learning the signals and needs of our body would be wonderful. And YES, online could work.👋

    👋 Greetings from the north of the Netherlands. Long ago, in another life😊, I once was for 3 weeks in an European clinic, titled "University Hospital at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine". In those days my than worsted multiple allergies (respiratory system, skin Hashimoto's D) let me to my decision to quit the Western path of treatment with constant testing and steroids. I felt the need to understand what's happening with "me" and "the world" around. Why am I not able to tolerate plant pollens or the skin, feathers or fur of animals or the tiny bites of 🐝🪲... Why me? I'm a tree hugger. I'm deeply in love with all kind of animals, even the insects around my feet. So I started reading and trying to understand the ideas of the long gone Wise Ones of Europe, India, Hawaii and China. I was deeply touched when I found a common ground, as well in religions as in sagas and in medicine: - Good Thinking - Good Breathing - Good Moving - Good Eating/Drinking Than, I felt the urge to learn these 5 Goods. More reading. More thinking (to deepen the reading). More moving (to compensate the thinking). 😊 By the way, back in time, at the end of the 3 weeks in the clinic, I didn't heal or improve my immune issues. Theirs conclusion: "too much prenatal weakened and demaged chi". I've learned a lot there by listening and watching. Life is learning. There is no "me" versus the world. There are no boundaries I have to defend. I am. Like everyone is. Everything is. All one = Alone. I love Tai Chi. Especially outside. Barefoot. Thank you for your YT channel.💝

      Thank YOU for sharing your experiences :D I have had at least a couple teachers surmise that it is only through tai chi or chi gong (taiji/qigong) that one can potentially replenish one's essence and pre-natal chi. Barefoot Tai Chi is the Way. It's clear in your message that your understanding of flow is a practice that finds home in more than just the physical Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

    If you’re implying that we refer to Hoodie as Hood River cuz it’s mt hood and the Columbia river then you’re mistaken. It’s cuz the Hood River runs through town, which is the river named after mt hood that connects to the Columbia. Just to clarify in case others were confused.

    • @wholeBody
      @wholeBody Рік тому

      And there you have it folks! From someone presumably more local than I. Although you can maybe see why my explanation is a sensible assumption…. Perhaps you can clarify then - does that mean the town came after the naming of the River? What about White Salmon - is the River named after the town or is it the other way around (in case of HR?)? And how about Mosier Creek; in that one presumably the town came first?! From what I understand anyways! A bit more boring of an explanation than I offered…. But if that’s the truth, then there we have it folks - Hood River is a beautiful small town (now a city perhaps) located near Mt Hood, right on the Columbia River . . . named not after the meeting of Mt Hood and Columbia River ( it sure looks like it tho), and rather, after the same named "Hood River" that flows from Mt Hood Wilderness through the City to it's drainage into the great Columbia River. . . . Cheers . . . Thank you Robert

      @@wholeBody I’m not sure how local you are but I’ve experienced a lot around here growing up a few feet from the Hood River itself. So I defos know about the river. It used to be called dog river cuz the natives refer to the type of salmon which commonly breed in the river as dog salmon or something like that. Not cuz we have a lot of dogs which people think haha but I don’t know about white salmon. It’s a really cold and white river so I thinks it’s named after that. The town of white salmon defos was named after the naming of the river I’d assume. But I’m curious now. And same with the mosier creek haha even tho the town might have been named first. I’d say there’s 0% chance the town was named that out of nowhere and then they found a creek and called it mosier creek cuz the town was named that already. And it’s unlikely it was created after the town was formed but maybe you’re right. I think it was just commonly called mosier creek by locals, the creek, and some people might have not called it that and then the town go it’s name cuz the locals referred to is as that but the creek wasn’t ever officially named and then after the town was named the creek was officially named. Soo the town isn’t named after the creek but maybe before it.

      @@ffrreeddyy123456 Sounds like a plan, thanks for sharing your local lore. I've got to re-up on my museum-going, something I actually enjoy a lot; once I'm not out entrepreneuring . . . rest soon . . . take care

      I'd never heard of the guy; so I looked him up; his music inspired an upcoming education piece!

    Thank you, it’s so weird that we don’t get taught things like this. It feels like a lifetime of relearning all the indoctrination and brainwashing and creating new healthy patterns. Grateful for your message 🙏🏻💜

      Yup, it's like those sci fi movies in which the journey begins only after we have been cleaned and washed of our 'earthly conditioning' in the outer chambers of the space ship. . . . Some think the role of therapy is to help us connect with those essential pieces of who we are outside of those layers of acquired earthly baggage . . . . I think may approaches may get us to a similar place . . . And the foundation for those journeys often do begin with the basics: proper and appropriately tuned breathing, hydration, reflection, nutrition, mindfulness based movement and relationships, purpose! Thank you for your comment, may ya continue to strengthen that power of alignment with the Inner You
