Here's a Tip from a singaporean who took Soil Chemistry class. Use fertilizer and good irrigation system. Your land are reddish in colour which means high deposit of sand. Its not generally good for agriculture as Lithic soils and oxisols aren't really rich in N and P but rich in silica and iron oxide. So to accomodate that, usually you can add manure that was roasted so they didn't carry aditional heat from the excrement and it will provide the organic matters that are deficient in your soil. Also since this land shared kalahari climate, you'll need more water during summer times but not so much because if the land gets too wet the organic matter would end up becoming acidic. Your land are different from asia and europe, so bring plants that are suitable and would provide good nutrients for the people. The white farmer introduced Potatoes, Corns and Tobaccos, which aren't suitable for this land. Which is why they compensate it with application of good soil management and intensive care of their farm, thus yielding high produce in their land. And Don't get your hopes to God for too long. God doesn't give you maize when you are hungry nor they protect you and those white people from poverty caused by Mugabe's idiotic policy. Good luck farming then. Edit 1 : Its best to see the "Rhodesian sourced" research, since after i rolled into researchgate website i can conclude that South african soils are different from Rhodesian ones. Edit 2 : You can do a small experiment to understand the composition of your soil in your land. Fill a soil on a glass jar until it reached 5cm. Add some water, mixed it properly and wait until the Clay, Silt and Sand material deposited under the bottom of the Jar forming 3 Layers of soil components. First layer would be Clay, middle layer is silt and The very bottom is sand. After that measure the height of each 3 sediment formed on your jar. There you will know the exact percentage of your soil component.
