ive been into engines scince i was 10 because of my grandfather. i own three little engines but me and my dad own 10 of them together.
35 hp Superior gas engine
located at Macon county flywheel and collectable club in Macon mo. this 35 hp Superior gas engine was donated by Loren and Betty Miller. in 1923 the national supply company purchased this engine and was placed near Breckenridge Texas and ran a turn table operating four oil wells for some 40 years. it was restored in 1983.

Trying To Start The Fairbanks Morse Engine
Переглядів 3 тис.10 років тому
After it wouldn't start i decided to take the head off and clean all the valves and reset the mag again t make sure the engine wasn't trying to start backwards. then the carb cam off for a cleaning. once everything was put back on i tried it one more time.
How To Time A Fairbanks Morse D
Переглядів 14 тис.10 років тому
This engine was found in a junk pile in a shed that had been building for about thirty years. the condenser and points were cleaned and the engine ran. but it ran very hot and that was because the mag was stuck with tar that ran off the coil to the rotor. i had to use an acidic chemical(WD-40) then i had to clean the mag off with dielectric cleaner. then i had to reset the timing on the engine....
Bates Corliss Steam Engine
Переглядів 8 тис.11 років тому
This is the 500 hp low speed Bates Corliss steam engine at the macon county flywheel reunion(2013). It was originally used in the Kirksville shoe factory until it was moved to the fairgrounds. the engine had been sitting for a couple of years before my grandpa started restoration. it has a 20in bore 36in stroke 14ft flywheel that weights 11 tons. 1 1/2 H.P. McCormick Deering M
Переглядів 8 тис.11 років тому
This is the newest engine to the collection a 1.5 HP McCormick Deering. This is the first engine my dad and grandpa restored in the 70's. It has sat for about 15 years due to a bad fuel pump but does still run. Before i got to start the engine i took the crank case cap off and was elbo deep in sludge cleaning it out. I'am happy to add this to the collection and plan to show it off with the others.
2-2 1/2 HP Stover CT2
Переглядів 1 тис.11 років тому
This is my 2-21/2 HP Stover made in 11/5/36. its another engine to my collection that i highly like because of how easy it is to start. i know the date because on the side without the governer it was casted into the block.
2HP Fuller and Johnson
Переглядів 96412 років тому
this is a 2 HP model CN Fuller and Johnson. it was hooked up to a briggs and stratton check valve that i slid into the copper line. i never got to see this engine run until now and its a fine running engine all thats needed is a gas tank. it has a brand new wico ek mag on and was ready to run.
1 1/4 HP Baker Monitor Pumping Engine
Переглядів 4,9 тис.12 років тому
This is my 1 1/4 HP Monitor pump engine. i currently dont have the pump connected but hope too. its self oiling and buzz coil used for fire. i always had a little more interest in the verticle engines even though they arent open crank shaft. its a good runner and never had a single problem. never shuts off and doesnt back fire.
1 1/2 HP Headless Fairbanks-Morse "Z"
Переглядів 13 тис.12 років тому
This is a 1.5 HP headless Fairbanks. its dated to have been manufactured in 1915. it has an open crank and ignition fired. it has three diffrent speeds to run on and the fourth usually shuts it off. its another one of my engines.
2 HP Fairbanks-Morse D
Переглядів 7 тис.12 років тому
This is a 2 HP Fairbanks-Morse "Z" style D. I got this engine from my grandfather and was playing with it one day and got it to run slow. its a nice engine with a 25 to 30 year old restoration by my father and grandfather. The could never get it to run as slow as i got it too and all i did was use lots and lots of oil to loosen the throttle. i looked all over to find a video of one running this...
Mine is giving me same problem not wanting to start it was running 2 years ago
That's a bit bigger than your ZDs! ;-)
Starts and runs real good on the magneto 😇🙏
I like the Z headless F.M.. They are hit and miss. The later model Z was changed to throttle governor.
Its a wonderful thing when these engines get handed down especially to the hands that will keep it running. I have a 1927 model that still apart but I have all the pieces and that's the main thing! Those old throttle governor engines sing just as pretty of a song as the hit and miss do! I see that this engine video is 9 years old now and I'm sure a lot of water has gone over the dam in those 9 years but I pray all has been well with you and your family, take care my friend, God Bless and stay well!
Good video!!!! Good sounding engine. Glad you kept after it and did not let it beat you!!!!!🙂 Work on video quality. You are getting there.🙂
Good video!!!! I agree with most of comments. Recheck timing. May be 180 out Clean check ball in tank. You'll find it. I like your knowledge and willingness to learn!!!!!! 🙂
Young man…your determination is most impressive and is equaled by your obvious knowledge of the internal combustion engine.
Sweet running lil fairbanks 👍
2 cycle...sweeeeeetneeeess
What a beautiful piece of equipment! Thanks for posting
I wish mine ran that well. I think the governor is screwed up but I don't know how it is supposed to be working I rebuilt the fuel pump 3 times and the last time it ran for 30 minuted but I had to constantly move the governor rod to deep it from dying out.
Wow that thing is dialed in! Nice salt block!
NICE ENGINE👍......was that the 3:10 to YUMA i heard in the background.
Creo que es un antiguo motor de combustión interna moviendo un generador de corriente alterna, tal vez todavía lo viera Nicola Tesla
Where is this one?
It's in Macon Missouri at the flywheel and collectable club.
Best video yet on watching the Corliss valve action. I just wish the camera hadn't swung around so much past the other stuff.
I can assure the engine is running on steam. You can see thru out the video of the boiler that provides this engine with steam. The popping noise randomly heard is the feed pump Providing it with water. This boiler is more modern then the engine it has a diesel burner to heat it.
Is it running at typical rpm or a bit slower for display?
@@richiet3490 it's running slower for display and because the boiler isn't large enough to keep up with the engine to run it at operating speeds.
@@TheEngineCollector1 thanks for that, i thought it looked a bit slow. What a gorgeous old engine, I'm so glad people appreciate and restore these fine pieces of equipment
that isn't operating on steam!
I did not hear any clicking when you were spinning the magneto. I would assume something like this would have an "impulse" magneto. The click should be the trigger release mechanism. It makes the magnets spin momentarily very fast (impulse) past the coils to make a quick burst of electricity. Not hearing the click might mean it is not an impulse mag or the impulse part of the mechanism is not working. This would make for hard starting for sure. Something to check anyhow.
Jonathan w is on U tube and he just found a bates corliss. He is bringing it home to save it!
IS HE GOING TO PUT IT IN THE PICK UP MADE FROM JUNK ?
@@cactusjack9364 Jonathan's pickup truck is not made from junk. It is made from a 1958 International Harvester S-series body and a 1993 Chevrolet pickup frame and engine. I had the honor of engineering the steering column splice and the brake pedal linkage. Jonathan does not drive any junk. It is all very well constructed pieces of equipment.
Jonathan W’s engine does indeed have a different valve trip mechanism to this. I think he is quite correct that he has discovered a unique survivor.

Been following Jonathan W for awhile now. He does amazing work with saving old cars and engines.
Very impressive engine. Thanks for sharing.
YOUR FIRST BACK FIRE MAKES ME THINK THAT YOU HAVE THE TIMING 180 DEGREES OUT OF PHASE.
good afternoon could you give me information about this engine so that I can start to restore it and be able to evaluate what are the missing ones that it has
Somebody got that fuel pump working. It wouldn't run that long without it. Sweet little engine. Hang on to it. Make a go cart with it.
Yeah ruin this engine to put it in a go cart, fucking idiot
Wow great runner both high and low. You said the engine just runs that slow but have you pulled it down and compared valve spings and maybe look at the needle seat and just tried to find the reason it runs like it does? Maybe the tension of the bearings is just perfect and is worn in just right.
Using easy start will only make it harder to start in the future
I realise that this is an older video. In Australia it will move about in the opposite direction. Try putting some polish compound on the floor, walk away and just run it a couple hours. ;-) I had a couple of these D's still have 3 Z's 2 ZC's I haven't seen a well balanced Fairbanks yet. The older ZD's are 1 1/2 hp and the newer ,lol , ones are 2. All these Fairbanks draw fuel from the intake stroke instead of a fuel pump. Simpler yes, but can be harder to start. I believe Fairbanks stopped using a fuel pump after 1918 when they started the "Z" series. Before then, there was a fuel pump built into the carb. I think those were the "H"s. Have fun with them.
Muy bonito motor
Clean your check valve in the tank. Then double check your timing. Good luck 👍!
NICE !!!!!!!!
Sweet! I hope I can get my engine to run that well someday. It's a 1924 M 1 1/2 hp
You did a GOOD job !!
get some copper core wire. that new resistor stuff isnt good for these old mags
Runs real nice
someone is looking to loose their thumb while they start that engine...
People weren’t always woozies.
Yep if you try hard enough
Ok you got it :) Nice job!
Did you get the hot mag sorted out?
Did you get the hot mag sorted out?
Nice running Headless Z; my grandson has the ignitor model like yours, and we have a bit of a problem with getting it running most of the time. We put in new points, but I am going to work now on the setting of the ignitor trip lever. Nice video of yours.
Great Job! You remind me of myself at a much younger age. It's young folks like you that reassure me that this world hasn't went to hell in a hand basket.
Nice Engine, nice video, thanks for posting, and thanks for demonstrating how to properly oil pre-start
Nice engines! Yeah... Fairbanks Morse engines tend to be harder to start than some of the other manufacturers of that time.
Thats cool my fb can run pretty slow but you may have me beat
cool, I have one but I would not run it that slow because the engine is not getting any oil. if you want to get some two cycle oil and mix just a little in to oil it.
That's a nice engine and a good working video of it! Thanks for posting.
Nice Fairbanks Morse. I just got a 3 hp 1915 or 1916 Z. Your engine is actually a Fairbanks Morse Z style D.
