#cynthiaerivo #hesgotthewholeworld My favorite on this part 3 is Cynthia Erivo. I like her tone so much ♥️
Overall your video, despite not all of the examples I agree with, I think is fairly decent.
3:34 I call Celine a full-lyric to be honest.
I call Ponselle a regular dramatic soprano.
Genial video. Gracias. Un cordial saludo desde Argentina.
Ever listen to how dark coloratura soprano Luisa Tetrazzini's voice was? The middle and chest was quite impressive. Listen also to Lina Bruna Rasa a spinto/dramatic voice, Magda Olivero and Rosanna Carteri lyric sopranos. Voices have changed as have singing techniques and I wouldn't say its necessarily for the better
This is almost a full cover. They’re only missing one line I think.
I like this lecture style video! I think Céline Dion is a full lyric while Whitney Houston was a spinto (although she became kind of a mezzo later in her career). Patti LaBelle is a classic dramatic to me with that power! But I'm wondering Aretha Franklin. I once classified her to be the same as Patti, but people disagree, calling Aretha to be a mezzo. Besides, is SoHyang a full lyric or a light lyric? How about Lisa Fischer? Btw, is that intro _How Can I Ease the Pain?_ by Lisa?
Wagnerian should not be equated with being Dramatic, that's pulling the qualification high. Just because Ponselle had the flexibility of her voice when she was younger (therefore having able to sing Merce dillete amiche faster than Cerquitti and Zeani, and almost like that of Tetrazzini) does not make her a coloratura.
Rosa Ponselle is a dramatic soprano. EVERYONE CAN BE COLORATURA IF WE DO NOT CONSIDER CONSTRICTED THROAT IN SINGING. Adelina Patti is a coloratura soprano who can sing at the age of 65+. None of the current coloratura wannabes can do that.
Not everyone can be a real coloratura .... coloratura means people who can sing very agile and easy to a e6 f6 g6. Real rare coloraturas can go even to a a6 b6 and C7. Not every soprano can sing those notes in head voice. Real coloratura like Erna Sack and mado Robin are very rare.
I hope they put Luisa Tetrazzini, Nellie Melba, Amelita Galli-Curci, & Elvira de Hidalgo as example for coloratura sopranos
I NEED THEM TO SING a FULL COVER
What's the song from 2:31-3:00?
I dont see anythimh just black screen
Lol you're the first to complain about that
Mariah has no resonance over c5.
haha you're so mad
Sorry, but Anna Moffo was a coloratura soprano. Did you ever listened her singing "Una Voce Poco Fa"? She had more higher staccatos than Maria Callas, who was called "absolute soprano". Furthermore, I don't think Whitney Houston is lyric soprano. Actually, she sounds like a Spinto Soprano. And I could put Celine Dion in the coloratura category easily.
whitney’s vocal coach came out and said she was a lyric mezzo soprano!
Whitney was a spinto soprano in her prime but yes after she got a mezzo soprano. I dont know about the lyric part. Whitney houstons voice sounds too strong and full to be a lyric. The drugs and Smoking make her voice less powerful.
a very very bad video about voice, first we don't use as exemple non operatic voices with the same terms....
How about Celine dion?
Celestina Bonesgana , Renata Tebaldi and Lina bruna rasa are good examples of Spinto soprano's
Rosa ponselle is an amazing true dramatic soprano with Coloratura
Adriana Caselotti is a trained Coloratura soprano , and sung the role of Gilda in Rigoletto a total of 3 times , subrette isn't necessary a voice type a subrette is a developing soprano who may not have comfort in their upper range thus singing subrette roles , subrette is more of a character than a voice type , Adrianna Caselotti s terrisuta is higher than a normal soprano ( sopranino/high soprano) similar to Minnie riperton , Syreeta wright , Sandi Patty , Francine Jones and Debelah Morgan
Hay mucha desinformación acá.
I agree with some of them but not all of them.

Whitney in this video sounds very Falconish.. Her middle register was very much of a mezzo... always reminds me of Verrett or Bumbry... nowadays people put voices in "higher" category than they are..
People say her voice had dropped over the time to be a mezzo overall. I believe she's a spinto soprano in early years.
I want to learn opera or at least I think my voice is on the thin side but even so I believe my lows are decent they're not airy. My upper is connected head voice not falsetto in fact I find it hard to use falsetto as Im not really breathy. I have super head voice up to C7 but I heard some E7s but I can't do E7 on command just up to C7 I don't have any training either so I'm not sure how to extend it up to E7. I do some practice on my own I mostly focus on my lower range chest voice as I've read it benefits your overall range and also your head voice. I recently started practicing with hissing and I see improvements with my notes I hear them better now I added tongue trill instead of lip trill bcs I hold it for longer than lip trills? I'm not sure which is better for this case I mostly see people do lip trill instead? Either way ever since I started doing hisses I hear improvements. Now for weakness I don't know how to belt like I can do F4 and G4 but after that it's just bleh I'm supposed to pull up chest but I'm not sure how I overthink and end up failing if I think too much I don't hit the notes well I noticed this for me. I also don't know how to use vibrato I may have it I'm not sure but I don't know to use it on command I also most likely can't resonate I don't know how to notice if I can even resonate or not. I don't know how to whistle but I'm not interested in learning either. I dont use falsetto. My mix is also really heady early on I'm just afraid of using too much chest I guess 😅 The reason I can't belt is why I pick opera bcs I can already use head voice pretty high and in opera they don't belt so I wouldn't need to learn how to belt. What I know from early on can be benefit me so there's less things to learn? This is super long if anyone bothers to read this whole thing thank you ❤
thx for making this bc people call highnotes with weight and a open vowel "resonance"
Patti Labelle isnt a Dramatic soprano her voice is too high and bright to be a Dramatic soprano , A true Dramatic Soprano is Vivian Reed who was also trained as one , and coloratura isnt really a voice fach it's more of a skill
I agree ! It is an old video though ^^
So your chest voice needs to be present(?) to resonate? Is it through all your range or just through lowest notes and mixed voice? Mixed voice would have to be more balanced not too heady or more chesty than heady. My mixed voice is too heady i dont know how to add more chest instead still figuring this out. I dont know much about this but why when i sometimes hit F4 it turns into F5 well it depends if i make it louder or where i place my tongue im pretty sure im using diaphragm as i feel my body moving is this sort of resonance? I can also make E4 into E5 and G4 into G5 i dont practice with A4 much but i probably should it just gets slowly uncomfortable hitting A4 with just chest. For D4 and C4 well im not enterely sure how to do add the thing that changes them into D5 and C5. If I press too much I can hit C5 with chest without doing this thing but I dont attempt as its way out my comfort zone. I keep practicing my highest comfortable ones, slowly adding 1 semi tone as it takes long time to get more comfortable. If you end up reading till here do say what you think about this as im curious myself
Nice video, but fachs aren't used on light music. It's enough to know your vocal type and that, how high and low you can sing, but don't have to care were you a light-lyric, dramatic, coloratura, wagnerian. I don't know why did you put clips about pop singers, maybe they have a classical music vocal training, but they still sings light music, so then you don't have to use them.
I do not fully agree. What do you mean by light music ?
Because fachs defines roles in opera because opera isn't just singing, it's also acting and based on the scenes and the characters in them, the characters are supposed to look and sound like a certain. And light music means pop, jazz, blues... contemporary music genres. Although singer could have a classical music vocal training, but sings pop, then classical and pop cannot still be combined each other.
What is the loudest soprano voice? Is it dramatic or wagnerian also what the difference between dramatic and wagnerian
Wagnerian is a specific type of dramatic soprano who trains to sing the operas of Wagner, which generally use heavier orchestration, and are notoriously long, like 4 hours or more. Therefore, training one's lung capacity to last the long hours of heavy singing, long lines of singing, and producing the volume output to not be drowned by the orchestra, is crucial to sing Wagner. Usually, very metallic dramatic voices shine in Wagner like Kirsten Flagstad, Birgit Nilsson, or even Astrid Varnay, despite her voice was not as stainless steel clear as the former two, she had a much darker and cavernous sound.
Very well explained. Thanks
You're welcome !
Thank you :D
You're welcome!
Anna Harteros voice absolutely stunning wow
Whats the second song?
Close to you by Debelah morgan
Renee Fleming is most definitely a full lyric soprano I think Leotyne Price is a heavy lyric soprano she never consistently sang outside of the lyric repature (sorry I'm horrible at spelling ) Diana Damrau and Joan sutherland are both dramatic coloratura soprano Maria Callas is a Soprano Assoluta meaning that she can sing almost anything in Opera , Coloratura , Wagnarian , Dramatic, Lyric etc
Joan Sutherland had many issues singing in that repertoire due to a not strong technique. She's from my point of view a lyric soprano. Never heard of Callas singing lyrical pieces.
@@glambert4ever163 Maria Callas is a Soprano Assoluta but I agree with you, she mostly sang repertoires written for Coloraturas , Dramatics , Spinto and her voice in general would not fit the lyric repertoire it's to dramatic and large , Joan Sutherland is a true Dramatic Coloratura soprano her , technique is was better than Maria Callas when it came to coloratura and she's far too agile to be a lyric soprano , Lyric sopranos have little agility compared to Coloraturas , A true Lyric soprano is Leotyne Price , Leotyne Price never consistently sang outside the lyric repertoire , compare Joan Sutherlands rendition of the aria Sempere libera from LaTravia to Renee Fleming , Renee Fleming is less agile and even skipped the E flat it wasn't return in the aria but a lot of Coloraturas added the E flat so it's become a tradition , Joan Sutherland was also known for her Speed and dexterity , definitely not a lyric soprano
@@majahandlovu8115 i don't hear any dramatic quality from Sutherland.. Her timbre is too bright, girlish and very light.
@@awokwok1029 Maria Callas herself is not a dramatic soprano
@@majahandlovu2050 Callas herself said that she is a very heavy voice but always lighten her voice.
You know what I always think? I always think I'm a contralto, until I found a good vocal teacher. He told me that I'm actually a soprano! Dang! And what makes me even more shock...I actually have 3 octaves and a fourth vocal range (G2-F6, to be exact) after properly training. 😱 But, I don't know which vocal range I am after watching this. I'm still confused 🤔
Holy shite. Hello Fuse?
@@feooooo1884 Hello! 😊
Now I know. I ask my vocal teacher, and he told me that I am lyric coloratura soprano because I have a certain agility when I sing 😊

Very elucidative video. I appreciate thtat you used actual science to explain an often misguided topic in youtube. Loved your examples. John Raitt, Jackie Wilson, Mahalia Jackson, Linda Rondstadt, Patti Labelle, Ethel Merman, Mina Mazzini also had ringing voices.
Thank you !
Lamberts Voice is MONOTANAL and he has No VERSALITY.
Great video but Celine is not a light lyric she's a full lyric and Whitney is a Spinto soprano
Whitney has as bright of a timbre naturally as Celine… Listen closely and ignore the tonal modifications.
@@KajiVocals Celine and Whitney both have bright timbres which indicate their naturally Sopranos but the difference between the two is that Whitney matches the trates of a spinto soprano and Celine a full lyric if Whitney was a full lyric she would sound like her mother Cissy Houston or maybe like Celine dion full lyric Sopranos don't always sound the same for example Audra Mcdonald and Julie Andrews For opera/classical Leotyne price and Harolyn blackwell but their trates remain the same
@@majahandlovu8115 Audra McDonald has a way darker voice than Celine and Whitney lol. She also has trouble hitting belts past C5. And head notes past G5. She is a soprano but a big-voiced one (at least after having kids). Julie Andrews was a high lyric coloratura soprano, trained as one too. Very very bright voice. Leontyne was classified by her coach as a big-voiced lyric soprano. And she had some issues with her technique too. Harolyn was an UNDERDEVELOPED high lyric soprano. No chest voice. And no, sopranos don’t have bright voices necessarily. It is only bright as relative to mezzos. But the voice itself might be dark. Vivian Reed, dramatic soprano = dark voice. Linda Hopkins = soprano, dark voice.
@@KajiVocals Audra is definitely not a Spinto soprano even though her voice was dark her voice sounds a bit lighter in her upper range , Harolyn blackwell has perfect and better control than Leotyne Price if you compare their renditions of summertime you will hear the difference, Full lyrics can have lighter voices such as Harolyn blackwell but their trates remain the same as a full lyric with a heavier voice the difference between Celine dion , Whitney and Cissy Houston , Celine and Cissy are both Full lyrics , Whitneys upper belts sounded more echoed than Cissy and Celine , and if Whitney was really a full lyric she would sound exactly like her mother
@@majahandlovu8115 Full-lyric vs light-lyric are not FACH. They are contemporary categories that reference the TECHNIQUE used. FULLER approach vs LIGHTER approach. Cissy used very little vocal weight. Someone's voice 'echoing more' doesn't mean much as it will depend on a) the acoustics of the room b) the microphone c) the technique used.
Vocal Fach is only relevant in classical music. You don't really need to do that classified those pop singers vocal fach.
Exactly! Vocal fach does not applies to pop music.. I wouldnt use some of the examples used here. Doesnt show what the voice type really is.. like for the Dramatic soprano.. showing La Nilsson singing Vissi D'arte, which is more of a full lyric soprano aria. It would be very much better if it is 'In Questa Reggia' from Puccini's Turandot or 'Hojohoto' from Wagner's Die Walküre, Dramatic and Wagnerian soprano arias correspondingly. And also Whitney is actually a Mezzo-soprano. Anna Moffo is a Lyric Coloratura Soprano. Rosa Ponselle is more of a Dramatic Soprano with coloratura qualities. She doesnt sing the higher notes like all Coloratura Sopranos do.
You are right. Although it is an old video, still there 2 clasically trained singers.
@@gd3172 Whitney was a soprano
Wtf with that girl in 2:20????? 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah right !!!!!! She amazing.
Whitney is not a full lyric. She was a classic spinto
Very clear lyric.
@@KajiVocals where? Her voice wasn’t bright enough to be a full lyric. Karen Clark sheard is a full lyric. Whitney is no where near as Soprano who can translate head voice range to mix chest belts.
@@Blueridge4000 Please listen to literally any performance in her prime and pay attention to to the times when she’s not darkening her tone. And even her darkened tone is very bright all things considered. She uses the full mass of her voice, darkens her voice with a lowered larynx, lifted soft palate, retracted tongue and dark vowels and yet her voice is still very audibly soprano. Karen is over-brightening her voice and has a habitual raised larynx. Her voice isn’t too much different from Whitney’s naturally. Both bright sopranos with high tessitura.
@@KajiVocals Whitney was a Spinto soprano because if you compare her voice in how will I know it's really bright and a bit light but in Hold up the light it's darker and more powerful , an example of a true Full lyric is her mother Cissy Houston , Cissy has was better technique than Whitney , her voice is dark full and rich but it's a bit lighter compared to Whitney
@@majahandlovu8115 Lighter relates to the lesser skew quotient and a high open glottal quotient degree in the voice. Neither of these things are biological or dependent on voice type. Cissy’s tessitura is audibly lower if you truly research her voice and hear her sing full-voiced similarly to Whitney, and her tone is audibly darker and richer… Cissy’s technique is decent but not better than Whitney’s. Cissy’s vowels were very inconsistent in the whole entirety of the voice. She has developed a very bad wobble very quickly and had bad tongue tension as early as the early 1970s. Spinto soprano voice is voice that’s akin to a true dramatic in tone except a tiny bit brighter and higher-set. Renata Tebaldi is a spinto-lyric soprano. Spinto with a tone of a lyric soprano. Listen to her tone. It should tell you everything. Also just saying, Whitney’s volume output for the coordination she used was not that big. It is big but if you listen to a true dramatic (Vivian Reed) or mezzo (Etta James) sing the same way they’d overpower her with absolute ease. Then you have Shirley Bassey who started out as soprano (classified by her coach) and developed into a higher mezzo with time. And she would overpower all the three ladies combined. And without a microphone.
I would say whitney was more a dramatic soprano than anything. Her voice had weight and power but was so agile and could move extremely rapidly. Even in decline her agility was supreme in the way she could manipulate notes to mimic her prime.
Whitney was a spinto
Whitney was a lyric soprano. The voice was far too bright and high to be anything ‘dramatic’.
@@KajiVocals Could be possible. Maybe a full lyric when at her prime
@@KajiVocals I personally think Whitney Houston was a Spinto soprano if she was a Lyric soprano she would sound like Cissy Houston , Cissy and Whitney sound similar it's just Whitneys voice was dark coloured but Whitney during her debut especially on songs such as How will I know , she can easily be identified as a lyric soprano but from 1987 -1994 her voice was naturally getting darker and fuller , so i think that's proof that she was a Spinto compare her performance How will I know and hold up the light you will here the difference
@@vangogh66110 Whitney was most definitely a spinto soprano her voice was full , rich and dark if you compare her vocals from How will I know her voice is girly and bright and in Hold up the light her voice was darker fuller and richer I think that was an indication that she was a developing into a Spinto
Whitney Houston is a spinto soprano
No She is full lyrics soprano
Very clear lyric.
I agree. She definitely does not sound like a full lyric.
Debatable tbh it's possible she is a lyric with dramatic approach. Idk enough about her "natural" voice to make any garauntees.
What? Lara Fabian's resonance is out of this world dude. Please research well about her before criticism. Her Humana performance says it all she has tons of squillo... lol....
I think you don't understand what is squillo. You need to have also scuro and overtones from chest. Lara is mostly mix voice. No way to create overtones with minimun TA participation
