    Thank you for the advice. I’m just getting into chess. I’ve played some good games and have been watching people play recently. Keeping moves simple and making things less complicated when you’re unsure are probably my favorite things you said. I’m still putting the information in my brain so I put this in a playlist of videos I find helpful for my style. I look forward to seeing more content like this

    8:37 Again h3 to stop Nh5 exchanging it for bishop then consider Qc2 if tactics are forcing queen trade, if not then Bd3 (Re1?) e4 and after have a long think about how you want the pawn structure to be like. If you are playing on blitz then just go for e5 after, always a safe edge. Also if black takes on e4 or c4 pawns, they gave up a lot of space, white has advantage already.

  • @faznaz7455
    @faznaz7455 10 днів тому

    7:21 Bf4 is actually a great move for white. Black’s development is a big problem so they need to buy time to develop and coordinate their pieces. Whereas White should play Bf4, h3 to give Bishop and escape square on h2 so that Nh5 doesn’t exchange it. Then play Bd3 and e4, perhaps supporting this with the rook as well. We are not worried about black taking on c4. Also trading dark square bishops gives black virtually no winning chances, therefore white would be playing for a win or draw.

    Question, at 4:43, why do we castle instead of immediately attacking with Qh4? Would the difference after trading be that significant? Thanks for help!

    • @VoltzChess
      @VoltzChess 16 днів тому

      Yes the point of the castle is to get out of the way of the discovered check by the opponents queen once the pawn takes. If that happens the queen would enter your position and you'll be the one being attacked

  • @-dizzoj-

    Funny you say your tactical ability is roughly the same as when you were 1400. I noticed the same thing in reverse :) I trained tactics as hard as I could for 6 months at the start of last year, tracking my ratings and # puzzles etc, and in general my results in actual games are the same as they were before I did that. I felt like I'd probably got better at calculation, but I hadn't really got better at winning chess games. It's also interesting that you've improved your rating just by playing 10 min Rapid with no increment, which is really close to what some people would consider Blitz (ie not much different from 5+5 really, which even chesscom considers Blitz). It's strikingly opposite to the Chess Dojo approach (for example) which advocates very long time controls, thinking very deeply about positions, and lots of self-analysis, to improve over time. Not saying your wrong of course! Your chess (rating) speaks for itself :) just thought the comparison was interesting.

    this is a really good education video. thank you so much. It really helps with learning the thought process and understanding the moves I’m supposed to be looking for. it’s so easy to tell people what to do but it’s like you wanna catch a fish and you got people telling them where to get fishing gear but not teaching them how to catch a fish. You can have all the right tools but if you don’t know how to incorporate them, you won’t catch a fish. it’s the same concept with chess. If you don’t teach someone the list of things to look for and the thought process… You can’t expect anyone to ever get better or want to keep playing! I got to 2000 online Blitz in about 8-9 months after I learned how to move the pieces, but it took me almost another 1.5 years just to get to 2300. Gaining elo is exponential, not linear. So, you can't expect to keep gaining at the same rate. It's impossible. Those last 50 elo is going to take you the same that it took you to get from 0 to around 1600. And after that (2000), it is a grind. Just enjoy the journey and forget about elo for a while. Also, keep doing puzzles, learn more about opening theoy and play other time controls for fun. Relax and enjoy yourself. After all, Chess is just a board game. Good luck!

      @ Isn’t exponential the correct term? Logarithmic vs. exponential functions. I always confused the two terms, since one is inverse from the other. But, yeah, maybe you’re right. Point is that you can’t gain elo forever. There’s some diminishing returns in the process lol

    Great effort. As you’re playing e5 working on some of the gambit line theory would help you imo. Strategic games hopefully you’ll be on par, but I saw a recent game in Ng5 Italian where if you know your stuff as Black you can get a nice advantage. Nf6 over Bc5 in Italian game is kinda baller anyway as because of Ng5 it’s literally a pawn sacrifice.
