PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) is a multi-phased project to provide water to the Gauteng region of South Africa and to generate hydro-electricity for Lesotho. It was established by the 1986 Treaty signed by the governments of the Kingdom of Lesotho and the Republic of South Africa. The project entails harnessing the waters of the Senqu/Orange River in the Lesotho highlands through the construction of a series of dams for the mutual benefit of the two countries. Phase I of the project was completed in 2003 and inaugurated in 2004, and Phase II is currently underway.

Since the launch of the LHDA's 10 Year Strategy in March - we have taken the subsequent months to continue to unpack the contents of the strategy and carry on the energy and ambitions we discussed at the launch event.
We continue to do this on multiple platforms including radio and newspaper.
In this video, we caught up with the man behind the vision to get his views on what the new 10 Year Strategy means, what it contains, and what transformative things Basotho can look forward to as a result.

Another river closed ,in other countries they are pulling out dams ,freeing up rivers
No country is removing large significant dams like this one. This dam will provide safe water to drink water to irrigate crops reduce potential flooding and additionally provide electricity for thousands of people without electricity. Only the arrogance of the developed world would keep these people down.
This is interesting but i have a quick question, is Lesotho using this water flow to the maximum in the hydropower generation? If not, why not? It doesn't end there, is Lesotho as a country using all opportunities that come with this LHDA projects from agriculture to tourism or its just the matter of building dams and transfer of water to RSA? Why don't we grow and stabilize our economy just using this water before it goes to RSA?

Good job indeed LHDA. The only problem is that you are communicating everything in Sesotho which might be a challenge for other interested stakeholders in South Africa to follow as the treaty is between two countries. I think you can use an English translator as a solution.Just food for thought.
