"Pehle aati thi haal e dil par hassi Ab kisi baat par nahi aati" It can also be seen in context of self-pity. Semetimes we laugh at our own self-pity. But after enough of it Ghalib says he gave up on self pity out of helplessness and despair as nothing else makes him amused.

hlo sir i just bought a book of Galib and i was searching for the meaning if this gazal but there is no channel explaining this except you so that you so much for the explanation I am 22 year old and sort of an old school person I like shayari and gazals but as a part of this generation I notice that people my age don't even like these kind of things and it hurts me that how could someone miss or ignore these beautiful things but at the end hats off to you sir for staying here for the people like me who loves to read thankyou soomuch.

Excellent explanation. I would like to add something, in our area, being 'kisi ke naam ka' means you belong to that person. Iike literally, for example, if your father brings two apples, one for you and one for your brother and if you are to ask him where he has put your apple. You will say, mere naam ka apple kaha rakha hai (Where is my apple). So, the line, hum to Aashiq hai tumhare naam ke will simply mean, I am your lover (not a lover of your name). Since, I am from Delhi, I believe that this may be what Ghalib Sahab is actually trying to say.
