Whats in my Camera Bag for Adventure photo and video in 2024?
FINALLY an updated video about what I'm using for adventure/outdoor photography and video! This focuses on the cameras, lenses, and accessories that I use, I might do a separate video or two on the actual outdoor gear that I use as well (backpacking bags, tents, etc.)
Shot on the Sony FX30 and FX3, example footage in the video shot with the Sony A7RV, A7IV, FX3, A7SIII, A1, Canon 5D Mark IV, Panasonic GH5 and G9, Dji Mini 3 Pro and Mavic 3.

Spring in Anamorphic | Blazar Remus 1.5x Anamorphic lenses on the Sony FX3 and DJI RS4 Pro

    Bought the set days untested before leaving to Asia to shoot a doc. I have a Sony A7s2 so an older camera but love the way they felt for that project. I was using the 45mm 80 percent of the time. There is a gre pre-order deal on the B Set for A Set owners so though I don't "need" more lenses now, will be taking advantage of the sale. Looking forward to trying these on a feature in January. Have the DJI too but still working the kinks out. What was your shooting frame rate on this? Thanks.

    The descent down that snowfield off Mt. Wilson was the hardest part for me. Haha. I couldn't control my speed on the glissade and kept having to self-arrest. The snow seemed much softer in your video than what I experienced. My climbing partner ended up moderately injured (bruised tailbone or something) after catching air as he glissaded (he was braver than me). I ended up with a very slow descent, step by step, and a death grip on my ice axe. It would have been so much better if I had had traction devices for my boots - spikes or even crampons.

      Thanks! I wanted to really focus on the composition with this since it’s entirely shot from a tripod. I did get the full set of 45/65/100. So far I definitely like the look of them, though I’m also still working on getting the back focus correct for the lenses since I think the focus isn’t quite where it should be. Still working on learning how they work before hopefully using them on a film competition here in a couple weeks!

      @@DerekAndersonMedia 3 days in I’m liking the 45 the most. I thought it would be the 65 but I am realllly liking the wide frame! Plus I think the focus is best on it. I think the main thing I have been learning is that horizontal lines are VERY important. Any slight tilt of the horizon is way more noticeable and harder to correct.

    • @KevinFedde
      @KevinFedde 5 місяців тому

      The trail up from the water tank at the top of the service road. It kind of curves around to the north of the tank before heading west up the mountain. I don’t remember the exact trail name/number since it’s been a while!

    Amazing, mate. It seems like you're using the whole width of the footage out of the FX3 instead of going for the 2.39:1 cinema standard that will take some of those warping edges out, which can be fixed in post as well. It looks amazing and you barely need to add any "film emulation" to it compared to other clinically sharp lenses.

      Thanks, I’m mostly pretty happy with this! And Yep, this was the whole frame. Since this was just some initial test footage I wanted to show what the full image looks like. I’ve got my shinobi set to 2.39:1 already for my next set of tests today. Thanks for watching!

    Hey, I know this video filmed a while back but I had a few questions. 1. Why not use the tentacle to multi usb cable? (I am guessing because it wasn't out at the time) 2. Does Final Cut see that timecode data? The reason I ask is because I bought the tentacle cable and fcpx doesn't see that timecode its embedded so I still need to go though the tentacle app. I am wandering if diety went around that somehow by having that box in-between. 3. When you original ran it through the Sony bnc to multi cable from the tentacle sync did the timecode appear in fcpx? Thank you for your time!

    • @KevinFedde
      @KevinFedde 5 місяців тому

      Hey, no worries! 1. You are correct, the tentacle sync cable wasn’t out yet. I prefer that cable now 100% and picked up 5 of them when they came out. 2. Final Cut on my end does see the timecode data, but I found it faster to use the tentacle app to sync and export a timeline anyways than to wait for Final Cut to do the sync. 3. Yeah, same thing with the Sony BNC cable. Final Cut did see the timecode embedded but it was way faster to just use the tentacle sync app than to wait for Final Cut to sync.

    • @KevinFedde
      @KevinFedde 5 місяців тому

      @@amidfilms989 yeah, the A7siii couldn’t input file timecode until the latest 3.0 update. Were you trying to get timecode into it via the multi-port before that? All of the stuff above I was using the FX3 and FX30.

    • @amidfilms989
      @amidfilms989 5 місяців тому

      @@KevinFedde No after the update. That’s the reason I started testing them out hoping I could sync using timecode in Final Cut. Sometimes I shoot 120 so after using the tentacle sync app in my meta data of fcpx it says it’s 29.97 even though I can still slow it down. So it’s a bit of an annoyance. Thanks for the info!

    • @KevinFedde
      @KevinFedde 5 місяців тому

      @@amidfilms989 Yeah, I don’t think there is a timecode standard for 120p. You do need to set the frame rate in the tentacle sync E to match your cameras frame rate (and your audio frame rate,) to get a good sync as well.
