Do I have anything left for a PB in Chicago Marathon, sub 2.38 aged 44.
In 125 days time the aim is to be on the startline of Chicago Marathon fit enough to attempt a PB of sub 2.38.
At 44 years old everything takes longer to recover and its harder to get motivated, but this is the last shot at a PB.
Week one complete, see you on the streets

The one we all want, the world's most talked about Marathon. Its taken 4 years and 9 Marathons to get qualified for Boston. I really wanted to go sub 3hrs and tick this off the list. One thing is for sure, the people of this city love their sport Instagram is Brummierunner
BRUMMIE RUNNER SHOCKED BY THE PARIS MARATHON
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
Here we go…..Just 4 weeks after getting a PB of 2.42 at the Tokyo Marathon I found myself stood at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris with 52,000 other runners about to take on another 26.2 miles, the Paris Marathon. Based on my previous marathon time, I found myself in the unfamiliar position of having my start position moved to the 'Preferentials Zone' meaning I got to start the race just a few met...
Love it! Looking forward to this, im on similar journey to try n PB 2:45 (currently 2:48) at Valencia in Dec (ill be 47 then) . Im also on for sub3 at all majors just Tokyo to go if i can ever get in :) all the best, bosh!
Thanks for the video, just signed up for 2024 so it was great to see your experience of 2023. Quick question about the medical form if you can help please? Do you just have to get it signed by a GP and upload it? Done a couple of marathons before and never seen this before.
Wow! What an awesome outstanding achievement 🎉 I have done Brighton marathon in 2016 & still looking for that ballot place after 9 unsuccessful attempts, maybe 2024 could be the year😂 I am definitely trying to manifest a place. Once again congratulations & a massive well done to you.
I did London and it has been lovely not being on a structured plan since. I'm also doing Berlin but feel the hard work done for London will be enough to get me through a shorter training block - probably starting around mid June ish.
Really appreciate you sharing your process. Just finished a marathon last week and needed to hear this. Have been thinking of the knee pain I felt during the race and making strength workouts part of my training.
Were you in Tidworth with stafords? ❤
You past me in subscribers noooooooooooo
Hey pal, watched all the way through 👍 good to meet you up mam tor this evening ATB 🙏
Clsss yo meet you guys at the top too. What a night for it. Congrats on the marathon too, it’s all hell after mile 22 😂😂
I've been running for years but never thought of this. Thanks for the advice. Will give it a go, just as long as the knees hold out. Cheers
Get some basic stretching and strength in the glutes and quads, it really helps the knees.
Makes perfect sense, assuming you’ll naturally become quicker the longer you can run for anyway?
You’ll still need to do speed work otherwise if you do lots and lots of slow long mileage you become very good at doing lots of slow mileage. But the slow long mileage is making cake, speed work is the icing and the nutrition and carbon plates are the candle on top 😎
@@brummierunner well at least being an MNU student I should nail the nutrition 😂 like that analogy though!
Loving the videos Si, been mulling the distance vs time on feet theories over. I guess we typically do distance as most people work on an out and back or loop scenario for a route. Approaching things on a time basis, I’d be conscious of getting home early and having to run up and down the street for 10 mins! 😂 Would love to see a vid based on speed work or generally mixing up the training 👍
Loved the video and another Brummie smashing great results on 2.42 that’s decent for 40+ ..think 2 marathons a year is more than enough sub 2.40 as to be on the cards pal? ..I did Manchester last year and was on for 2.41 ish and blow up at 23 miles and did run/walk of shame to end in 2.49 😢..I’ll keep an eye out for you at local races …btw I have the Brumrunner tag on insta..
There’s no fun in 2 marathons a year. I’m on for 7 this year 😂💀 I know I have a 2.39 in me, just depends if can get the training in or want it enough! Let’s see what the summer brings. Yes, 43 this year and everything is harder and takes longer 😂😂. It’s always the last 5km where your body shows you the time you’re due! 15 marathons 7 sub 3 and I’ve never had a strong last 5km! Brumrunner is strong 🙌🏻
Great video - new subscriber here :) Ran Chicago last year and had the best time at the back - no pb, no time pressures, one big party!
Thanks Sophie. I miss the naivety of being surrounded by runners on race day. Not knowing what to expect and enjoying the day as it unfolded. Now it’s a case of all I do for 20 miles is think about what I’m going to do around mile 22/23. Essentially switch off and go into autopilot for 20 miles which means I miss so much of the atmosphere.
This was really one of the better London Marathon videos I've watched. I picked out your "1 track lap" comment. That always works for me also. Still 4km to go?? Oh, it's only 10 laps of the track :D
Genuinely shocked that you would run the London marathon listening to an audiobook! If it’s all about the crowds then I’d want to soak it all in, fingers crossed I get in next year.
It’s my 15th marathon and 6th London. I just did Tokyo (2.42) and Paris (2.44) so I knew I was going to be in a dark place. The crowds are amazing but when I’m in the hurt locker I go to Goggins audio book to get the words in my head to keep me focused. You’ll get into London when you least expect it 🙌🏻
get ya scran down ya😁
Haha missed my lunch so that dinner was a double helping 😂
Excellent video. Subscribed. That comment about GFA runners following the blue line like they’re a Kenyan after the prize money - how true is that!
Elbows out, pushing at the aid stations and asking you not to draft! Comical but I suppose all marginal gains and some race for overall placings. I’m happy I did 2.42 at Tokyo but maybe time to be a pacer at a marathon and help others finish
@@brummierunner Yup, absolute muppetry. Tokyo seemed to be more civilised, but could just have been wider roads
Good video fella 😁
Thanks mate, means a lot. Just trying to be myself and show others the experience
@@brummierunner I'll watch some more of your videos mate. I'm interested in what you did to get to sub2.45 marathon standard. 2.49 is the best I've managed. I've had six failed attempts at a sub 2.45! 😕
One of the best videos of London this year. Loving your content, keep it real. From a fellow brummie, well done
Cheers mucka, just trying to get the experience out there for those who haven’t done it before. Glad you enjoyed mate.
Great vid. Interesting take away and something I can relate to! I got fed up chasing arbitrary times and shaving minutes off so ran this year in just short of 5hrs in fancy dress for charity. Totally different experience and something I cam thoroughly recommend!
The thought of being out on the roads for 5hrs mentally hurts me. Massive kudos to you for doing that and for charity. There’s a lot more than chasing PBs to make us smile 🎉
Great video. Brought back memories👏
Maybe time to go again and make more memories round that course 😎
@@brummierunner not likely. I can’t run a bath these days.
From a fellow brummie and ex rifleman, I love the content 😁
Cheers mucka. Always wicked to hear off a brother. I’m ex 1RGJ/2Rifles

Can’t wait to be fit enough to get that buzz of doing a marathon
