Omg! So talented at such young ages. I was only 10 in 77 when they were getting started. I didn't discover them until 1989. Wow!

Pat sei stato grande anche nel capire in anticipo che con questa ritmica (basso e batteria) il sound del PMG non avrebbe fatto molta strada...

I remember seeing this 'original' PMG at the Rusty Nail in Sunderland MA in 1977. Maybe 50 people in attendance, but we all knew afterwards that Pat was the very, very, real deal.

Metheny and Mays...there may never be a more magical combination

Yeah!…they most certainly are and were the epitome of 20th century jazz fusion…a living jazz, not just modern jazz…and certainly not ‘elevator music’… but rather, jazz that retains both a classic form, (in its’ improvisational style, thus avoiding a tendency toward monotonously unenlightened, genre-trapped, repetitive, improv guitar/piano ‘licks’) and its’ traditional blues bound chordal structures and progressions, while adopting/ incorporating non-jazz ‘like’ counter rhythms and extended compositional forms, drawn from other cultures, resulting in a more complex, and satisfying listening experience! This… the genius of, such unparalleled, innovative compositional beauty,is provided by, Lyle Mays. A combination of Classical structures, with highly sophisticated chord and tonal progression! Thank you Lyle for contributing to the texture of music on this planet…Your vision is inspiring, I listen, and try to incorporate such tonal and rhythmic awareness! Thank you for seeing more than the rest of us!

Man, that incredible dynamic range in that song is killer. I had the privilege of seeing them in 1978 (SUNY@Binghamton), sitting in the front row, directly in front of Pat's guitar stand. From the first distinctive notes of Phase Dance, to its dramatic halt ending, I was hooked. I'incrediblemusicians over the years, but none surpass either Mays nor

It's frustrating dealing with computer glitches. I tried to say, I've seen some incredible musicians over the years, but none surpass Mays or Metheny. They were truly a force of nature...

Despite the lack of stereo sound, there is something genuine in how it sounds here. The music of the 1970s, in general, was the best, when the art was not done purely for money and status. The whole scene and setup in the video is magical. The song is a work of art.

I have been a fan of Pat and Lyle and the PMG since I first heard San Lorenzo gently echoing all over a loft apartment I had in 1980. This music has become the soundtrack of my life. Have seen them many times since then. Best one...Secret Story tour in 1993 in Boston.
