Fighting Lawn Disease - Early Spring Lawn Fungus + F-Stop Application

First, sorry for the blur and focus issues it was dark. I noticed a a lot of leaf spot, brown and grey leaf tissue, or even death of leaf tissue 2 days ago in my lawn. It progressed throughout the day. I knew action was needed. While not ideal, I had a bag of Fertilom F-Stop in the garage and spread it across the lawn at full rate. One of the most overlooked parts of lawncare is the use of fung...
First Spring Fertilizer Application - Liquid Fertilizer + Post-Emergent Herbicide + Iron + PGR

I've delayed my first spring lawn fertization application as long as I can. Today I'm going to apply .10 lbs of ammonium sulfate per 1000 square feet with a full rate of Speedzone to knock out this massive chickweed and clover invasion. We will also be applying plant growth regulator and iron to slow down the growth of the grass and thicken the lawn up. This will also add a nice dark color to t...

Late first 😂
@@Striperman ill allow it 😆 🤣 😂
Too confusing for me😅
Where are you located?
@@maltedbarley1 near cincinnati. Currently in a drought.
@@MatsDawson I noticed your hat. Love the gorge. I’m in northern Cincinnati. PRG is hands down one of the most beautiful turf species when it’s healthy but summer is going to be tough. Make sure you r fungicide game is up to par and be prepared for lots of water it’s so dry here and we haven’t had a rain since 8/18 in Liberty twp and some missed this small thunder boomer.
@maltedbarley1 I'm over in Hamilton. I'm probably going to wind up experimenting with ironcutter Bermuda next year on a small part of the beauty strip. The rest of the lawn is 365ss kbg with prg overseeds. This year was rough though with the heat and drought in June.
@@MatsDawson amen to that. I’m off Hamilton Mason and PRG can be real tough to keep healthy in our summers Good luck
I’m on the west side often to visit family. Hamilton is really getting beautiful. Being from golf in southern Florida I’m familiar with the older varieties such as 419 and tif dwarf and excited to see the newer Bermuda varieties with better cold tolerance
Looking good sir. Still plenty of time for us. I am hoping to get our seed down tomorrow on at least one field
I really should have added a bit of kbg to this but I'm pushing it on time right now. Hopefully we can get some rain in the forecast too!
@@MatsDawson can you get your hands on some HGT. I will say that it does come up fast
@prospectfields I've thought about going HGT. I've been a Mountainview guy for years now though lol.
@@MatsDawson just a little bit would help
she is a good girl having fun in the sun and water😁thanks for the helpful tips🙂
Dang what happened? You had it looking so good last year
@@showmethemuddy We had an insane amount of heat in June.
Welcome Back!
@Krain currently using your sprays and rotors!
@@MatsDawson awesome!!!
Super helpful -- exactly what I needed to know and the perfect length video!
Glad I could be of service.
Did someone say stripes ? 😂
Hahaha
Welcome back

Really liked your video. I live in NW Indiana and sandy soil. New lawn as of last year and need to get level. I use a toro zero turn. What did you use behind your zero turn to level? It almost looks like a wood pallet? Thanks Gb
@wb5lxj57 I built drag out of heavy lumber. There is a video of me building it on here if you want to check it out. I'm also putting down sand this weekend too :).
Glad you are back
@cassiehowder9782 Thanks Cassie!
good to have you back sir What seed are you going with. We need to meet up in town. Crawford Woods anytime
@@prospectfields I need to swing by! I'll be running 34% Fireball Perennial Ryegrass 33% Hattrick Perennial Ryegrass 33% TEE-ME-UP Perennial Ryegrass
Great choice. Swing by and you can see it yourself. Starting two more fields soon ourselves Thank you sir
@@prospectfields what grass profile are you running out there currently?
@@MatsDawson our top smaller fields have been in trial last five years. All bluegrass field, Two blue/fescue fields, blue (365ss) mixed with Hatrick. And our newest one has the Fireball/Hatrick on it. Two hundred and fifty games played on it. Amazing results on that field. Fields take some abuse during the year

When in doubt, know that @striperman will be the first.

@MatsDawson Great...I have the same ..Briggs and Stratton 22hp Thank you
I don't have any issues with bogging down when I do this.

Lol The weird basement guy😂. You're hilarious.
Haha
@@brendap8385 I almost forgot about this video.
@MatsDawson I like how you took all those different cutters out before you used the scissors and said "this is baby grass" lol
Hi Matt.. great job! I'm new to this, so what ready-made seeds do you recommend that I buy from Lowe's or Home Depot? I'm going to do the same thing indoors and then plant them outside in the spring. Thank you!
❤❤❤
I have the same sprayer. What pressure did you have it on? Or did you just press the power button for full psi? Thanks!
@rayhollerrr I just rolled it up to maximum. I didn't have the sprayer for very long. Those rechargeable batteries kept going bad and the whole thing was so weird to carry on your back.
@@MatsDawson ahh thank you for the reply. I had recently hard one a couple weeks ago and they had fixed all the problems. Thank you for your response!!!
Great video, thank you! However I’m struggling to get the c clip back onto the mower to hold the wheel on. Anyone have any tips?
Try using a pair of needle nose pliers to clip it back in.
Thank you for sharing
I didn't end up doing it :(
did it slow down the grass growing speed? And did it damage the grass at all?
I see that first 2ft where you went to wide.
Cool
Why does my speed zone look milky?
Mine looks like a clear yellow syrup. How old is your bottle? Have you tried shaking ?
This video would have been more successful if you were riding that mower in a grim reaper costume.
I've been using my Craftsman reel mower since 1973 and I've never spent more that 5 minutes to sharpen the blades with a file. Works great and cuts grass like a champ. Also I regularly lubricate the gears.
Outstanding!! They don't make them like they used to.
I wish i could see more qbout how to adjust the screws so the plate is on at the proper angle. My mower is older and ive done all the steps but i realized the metal plate doesnt seem right and isnt sharpening all at once.whoch also tells me the blades may have never been adjusted with the plate right. As i use the compound, i keep seeing pits with the silver. So i guess i just keep going until there are no more little black dots? Or is that just discoloration?
Steve wallis step 2
Nailed it lol
I hope my next life isn’t going to be as a grass edger blade. Those things get the hell ground out of them.
Question, i thought you did a bluegrass lawn? Is it ok to seed barespots with rye?
Absolutely!
@@MatsDawson does the bluegrass eventually crowd out the rye? Is that the logic?
@matthewfunk5643 eventually but also no. The rye adds great color and texture to kgb lawns. Eventually the eye dies from stress over the years.
Do you need to water it in?
Yes
I did all that and reassembled but now the blades aren't turning. What do I do please??
It needs loosened.
I've been using the Fiskars 4 Prong Weed Puller. It works great.
So you made a pallet drag! Why not use a pallet?
This is about 4x heavier than a pallet
Not everyone has a pallet lying around
Plus a pallet isn't heavy enough.
Just put weights on a pallet
Love that dog
She was the best!
I used a whole damn bag on a smaller lawn with some other pre emergent for all the other weeds hopefully I didn’t kill my yard lol
You'll probably be fine.
It's me again. One of your fans who didn't like adding sand to my clay soil. However, I'm going to take your recommendation for MossEx. Like you, Bioadvanced liquid did only about 50% of the job....@ two applications. PS. Your music is PERFECT.
Hey Matt - I like you. I've got heavy clay soil and the worst thing I could do to it would be to add SAND! Just to warn those folks unfortunate like me to have clay soil.
Having clay soil is not an issue with adding sand in 99.9 percent of scenarios. Thanks for stopping by!!
Scotts = dead lawn. Anything by Scotts is crap.
Nah, operator error.
Excellent DIY hack. I am trying to figure out how to cover grass seed after spreading, do you think this unit you built would work? I have one acre, raking it in by hand is not an option.
Hmmmm. I'm not sure. Are you spreading on bare dirt?
Yes I will be. Cleared the land, now ready for seed@@MatsDawson
@@hockeynutt9434 ya, I think that would work pretty well or a weighted chain link fence.
What kind of light did you use ?
Just a standard grow light. Probably not the right spectrum or power for growing grass.
That looks like to much work😂😂😂 Ive mastered how to get nice clean lines with a line trimmer, practice definitely makes perfect, each to their own.😊
I find the blade leaves a better edge but you're right it's eventually easier to use the string trimmer to maintain it week in and out.
