Anything but Marlin.
Come join me, Pomaika'i, as my friend and I go trolling outside Waianae, Oahu, Hawaii. Although I was trying to catch aku or anything but marlin, we were blessed with another beautiful marlin that fed our families and friends.

Come join me, Pomaika’I, on a day when the aku are finicky and hard to catch. On this day I used a chrome jet head from Hobbietat and after it stopped catching I used a Makoto R lure. Akus weren’t the biggest but made for great sashimi and poke. Mmmmm… so ono. Aloha to the braddahs who gave me a shaka in the bird pile.

Braddah did good on cranking um in! Choke line was out…good going on getting um in the boat…🤙🏾
Good going bro
Big one! Awesome footage!
Good going captain from Ohana H
Nice one!
Ho, that guy must've been dying!! lol So what was the weight?
130lbs
I know it was only 130 lbs, but darn, I was physically exhausted after just reeling in the marlin 😮💨
Wow! Brada was cranking'em long time! Choke ono kine smoke marlin! I was on the edge of my seat! 🙌
lol, yeah he was super tired 🤙
Thanks for sharing this adventure!
solid video. did this hundred times but you always learn something new watching somebody else do their own ways
Mahalos braddah! appreciate the comment 🤙
Po, do you have extended tongue or no?
No extended tongue
I appreciate this, always wanted to know how guys solo launch and land their boats. You got some good back down skills! Also appreciated that you spotted the kayaker and slowed down and didn't wake him -- I kayak there sometimes. :-) I'm always worried boats don't see us if they're setting, clearing lines and not looking forward. Keep these educational videos coming, mahalo!
Mahalo for your comment 🤙
This video was interesting, but it was really hard to hear what you were saying.
ok, mahalo for your comment, I will try to figure out a better way to hear me. 🤙🤙🤙
Hey po! Just wondering how long your outriggers, and did you add the antennas to the boat?
The outriggers are 14 feet. I added the VHF ant with a mount I bought at West Marine. 🤙
Do you not spray down the trailer after launch? It’s something I always did but don’t really see guys doing it on UA-cam.
Just re-read your question, actually I don't rinse after launch just after fishing.🤙
@@holoholowithpowhich is kinda crazy
Liked n Subscribed from Alaska my braddah. Nice to see the setup too. I would like to hear you doing a voice-over, explaining the setup outriggers trolling pattern setup etc without the wind. Back n forth with between voice over and actual video sound would be good. Love Na Leo, but was a little distracting, music overlay would be cool, if can, if no can, no biggy Only meant to be positive n helpful. Good luck, n tight lines.
Aloha Alaska braddah! I will try to incorporate the voice-over or be more cognizant of the background noise. Mahalo for your comment, I do appreciate it, it will help me make the videos better. 🤙
Good stuff po
Mahalos Bradah!
👍🏽🤙🏽
You make your Launch and dock look so easy.
Nice Catch.🤙🤙
This build puts my Dauntless 15 to shame. Nice job rigging this Whaler for the big fish.
Wow, nice one!
Was wondering how you launch and dock by yourself, one day I'll try it to. Thanks for sharing! See you out there ,Ivan
Good seeing you out there yesterday Capt Po (aka Da Marlin Slayer). I still can’t believe that otaru hit a 9” lure, must’ve been really HUNGRY! 😂. Mahalo for sharing and stay safe out there!
Otaru always hits that 9s.
Didn’t know that…mahalo!
You think the 150 montauk can handle pretty rough waters?
No it’s cant
Not really, the freeboard is too low, water gets dumped in with if its even a little rough.
Right on po! Thanks, and nice size otaru you got🤙🏽
Good going
Aloha po🤙🏽 next time you go fishing if you can ,can you show us how you put the manu-o-Ku on the trailer and off thanks if can🤙🏽
Miss my dauntless 13. One day during retirement I’ll get a montauk 15.
Enjoy your life fishing bruddah!!! How's it. Watched a few of your fishing videos and enjoyed them. Like how your laid back, and enjoy going holo holo. Born and raised in Hawaii in 1960 growing up in our beach house at Ehukai Beach/Pipeline, I've been surfing and diving and freedive spearfishing and deep sea fishing most of my life in the Islands. I've been commercial fishing 40+ years from the Big island all the way up to midway island in the northwestern Hawaiian islands. Had several boats over the years, as a captain and owner operator. I moved to the big island, Kona, in 1980, after spending my summer's in kona fishing on my 13 ft. Boston whaler from 75-79 before I finished high school. In the early 80's, I got my dream small boat, it was the 9th Force 30 out of the mold, custom built for me to my specs in Hilo, so I could start full time commercial fishing . I didn't fish kona commercialy much, but based out of Honokohau harbor, and did regular 4-5 day and night long fishing trips to the rough trade winds exposed waters off the remote areas of the Big island where few people fished. It's been an incredible life living my dream, and seeing the most incredible wild places and fishing in places that are amazing, but extremely rough, which I loved!!!! I fished alone all the time, and loved the challenge of it and catching huge fish by myself!! Growing up deep sea fishing on Hawaiian sampans off Oahu, mostly trolling as a kid, my dream was to move to kona and fish commercialy full time, and to explore and go on fishing trips all around the big island, as it's got world class fishing and though Oahu is really good, the Big island was mecca, especially for big ahi fishing. I was a permit holder to commercial fish the leeward isles for many years on a few larger boats I've owned, and primarily was bottom fishing. It was incredible back in the day, and it must be full of so much fish now, it's likely as good or much better now since it's a sanctuary and there's been no fishing for decades now. We used to monitor it for the illegal foreign fishing vessels and let the coast guard know when we'd see them up there, and they'd send a C-130 out to bust them! I just fear that with no boats allowed to fish up there anymore, that there's foreign boats illegal fishing it and it's really too bad. With properly managed fishing by a few local Hawaiian boats and captains who don't hit the same spots too often, like we used to and carefully take and then let places rest, like the ancient Hawaiians did with the kapu system so they replenish and stay healthy, it could be safeguarded from foreign boats, and provide all that awesome eating fish like paka, onaga etc!!! Love to eat fish like paka and gindai etc, and give plenty away to the ohana and friends!!! I'm 64 now, so I'm pretty much retired from hardcore commercial fishing, but loved doing it being out at sea so much, when I was young and the decades I fished my Force 30 all over the big island especially were the best back then!!!! Just wanted to say Aloha to another local fisherman, as we see and do amazing things over the years spent doing what we love! God bless brah. D.L.
Mahalo Braddah! Really enjoyed reading your comment, you truly lived and I imagine still living the dream, take care and may God bless you!

Awesome!
Nice Catch on a Beautiful day.
Nice fish, good job 🤙🏽
So I fish off Atlantic city NJ solo in a 17ft custom skiff I built and I take it usually about 50 miles offshore for tuna, Mahi, wahoo etc. There's absolutely no need to run tackle that big in a small boat like yours no matter how big of fish you are chasing. Most fish you'll be reeling your boat to the fish. I've gotten 300lb bluefin using 20s and 30s with not a single issue. You could tow your boat with 30lb line 😆
yeah, but when you fight the fish too long no taste good.
@holoholowithpo I'm don't really fish for the table. I'm the kind of guy that wants to get the biggest fish I possibly can on the lightest tackle so I can have epic battles. Don't get me wrong, I still harvest fish like all tunas, Mahi, wahoo and swordfish but I honestly don't care if I get the meat. I give it all away anyway to my friends 😆. They come out of the woodwork for fresh steaks of fish. You're lucky you don't have to run at least 35 miles offshore just to have a shot at something decent. We gotta run between 75 and 120 miles just to get to the shelf off NJ. I take my custom 16ft out to about 50 on a really nice day. You don't want to be 50 miles out and weather pushes in when in a 16ft boat lol it's a long wet miserable ride home
@@mulletoutdooradventures6286 Yeah, totally get it. Most of the local fisherman fish to eat the fish not so much the sport so we want to make sure we catch it and bring it in quickly and ice it down. Sounds like your boat is well equipped, but...Wow! 50 miles is sooooo far. Be safe out there, tight lines. Aloha
Thought you was throwing the fish on your dash…😂 Brah, you got that boat dialed in for 1 man!
