Honestly, most of them are better live. I went to a Delain show 12 years ago in a small bar and Charlotte was much better live than in-studio.

If you try Emily Armstrong from LP, this not gonna be as perfect as the studio album 😅

The life performances with singers like this are even better, imho. And I've seen a lot of them in concert (lucky me). :) Edit: Just realized I've seen all of them except for one, lol. Weird to think I saw Delain back with their first album at a small concert when they were a newcomer.

Using Arch Enemy Alissa instead of The Agonist Alissa is simply criminal. She actually utilized her full vocal range in The Agonist. Almost completely did away with clean vocals when she switched to Arch Enemy. But her clean vocals are where she truly shines. The Agonist > Arch Enemy

Other bands for a part two I'd add are Nemesea, Xandria, Halestorm, Battle Beast, Elysion, The Pretty Reckless, Beyond the Black, Amberian Dawn, Signea, Leaves' Eyes, Spiritbox, We are the Fallen, Jinjer, Anneke Van Giersbergen, Fireflight, Flyleaf, UnSun, Sirenia, Kamelot, Edge of Paradise, Noctura, MoonSun, MaYaN, EdenBridge, The Murder of My Sweet, Cellar Darling.

While some militant Nightwish and Tarja fans and other metal armchair gatekeepers demeaningly say Amy Lee does not deserve to be on this list, I am glad she made it. While Amy does not profess to be a metal singer, what sets Amy apart from many of the vocalists on this list is that she is a complete artist and intense passion for curating all aspects of Evanescence's music from designing her own outfits and makeup, her music videos, to being the primary songwriter of ALL of Evanescence's music and has been writing her own music since she was in her early teens (she wrote songs on Origin like Give Unto Me when she was just 14 and wrote an entire orchestral piece for her graduating high school class). Those saying she isn't metal or rock enough (the average armchair pop fan or Britney / Madonna fan would also counter that she isn't pop enough) only demonstrates her own post-genre individuality, melding metal, pop rock, classical, rock, nu-metal, and alternative influences over melodic song structures. While many singers on here are classically trained vocally, she is a classically trained pianist and even adept on instruments like the harp. Singers like Floor may be a better vocalist technically, but what makes Amy striking is her ability to impart an indellible emotional intensity and authenticity into her music as a songwriter, born from her own unique life experiences, something that cannot be replaced. This is shown especially with her ability to sing over the piano, something she wipes the floor with on this list. Also on piano compositions like Unraveling or drastically unique covers of songs like Amy's version of With or Without You or Cruel Summer by Bananarama. She can go hard on songs like Whisper, Tourniquet, Disappear and Going Under to going soft, vulnerable, and emotional on songs like Hello, My Immortal, Lithium, and Far from Heaven. She is an artist and songwriter, and it is ridiculous to judge all of these women as if they should have perfect technique always like an opera singer when it is their emotional intensity, individual vocal styles and rawness that makes them THEM. If we were judging by vocal technique alone, the average professionally trained opera singer would win over everyone on this list, however one should not hold metal music to opera standards. Nightwish has been able to live on with three different lead vocalists and the squabbles never cease over which one is better or who can sing songs like I Wish I Had an Angel better or that Floor sang Ghost Love Score better etc. Meanwhile, covers of Evanescence hardly ever sound good or sound awful (like Kidz Bop's Bring me to Life) because they lack the authenticity of Amy's instantly recognizable and unique vocal style that she imparts on songs like My Immortal. Former members of Evanescence who wanted to prioritize Evanescence being commercially successful tried to do the same (We are the Fallen) but failed, getting dropped immediately after their first album. Amy showed she didn't need members like Moody to remain successful, with songs like Call Me When You're Sober and Lithium both having 100M+ and almost 200M views respectively. You can't replace Amy Lee as Amy = Evanescence. Evanescence also showed crucially, that women can achieve huge success with female vocals over metal and rock instrumentation (showing women don't need a male vocalist to tag along to be successful) and have a massive impact on popular culture (Bring Me to Life has over a billion views on YT, making Amy one of the youngest songwriters to ever achieve that). You don't have to like Amy or her music, but either way, all of these women deserve our respect for their massive talent, individual styles, and doors they have opened for women instead of ad hominem.

Back in 2018/2019, a cousin posted online that her daughter had been thinking of working with a metal band but was leaning away from it "because there aren't really a lot of good hard rock frontwomen." I sent her a list that had most of the women in this video (along with a couple of others mentioned in the comments) and told her that if she really wanted to get into harder rock and actual metal, she might want to do some extra listening for a while. The pandemimonium derailed things for a while, but I think she's now seriously gonna try it...
