    This is such an old video but I’m wondering if you could tell me why you need to push the shoulder to the ear? I hear about keeping the shoulders away from the ears all the time so I’m wondering the reasoning for this. ❤

    • @StephanieTallant
      @StephanieTallant Місяць тому

      When we're right side up, yes we're *usually* gently pulling the shoulder down away from the hear. When we're inverted though, we *usually* need to do the opposite.. close the gap between shoulder and ear / push the shoulder to the ear (mainly using the trapezius muscle). This is the case again for most positions where we're upside down (handstands, wheel pose, Ayesha, dragontail, butterfly, etc. The "why" behind this has to do with trying to position the shoulder blade in the position that allows for optimal range of motion and strength in our shoulder and back muscles. Does this help?

    I feel like I’m overcompensating with my arms when I do this move, is there anything I could be doing wrong that could cause improper grip/push and pull with the legs? Speaking of which is the push and pull with the legs or is it an arm heavy move??

    • @StephanieTallant
      @StephanieTallant 4 місяці тому

      We want to make sure the belly does not "balloon" or "puff outwards" when we pull the legs in. you want to press the abs down and engage from the low abs and hips as well. I go in depth into A LOT of core engagement details in my pole and flexibility programs on my Pole with Steph App for iOS & android! You can read all about it if you're interested at www.stephanietallant.com! inhale should be pulling the knees in and exhale should be the hardest point when legs are straightening up towards the ceiling.

      Seeing a video would be super helpful so I can see what your body is doing specifically :)) If you feel comfortable, post an attempt to this free community feed and I'll take a look! polewithsteph.com/community. Usually what happens is the leg comes forward (into hip flexion) and this is what makes our legs and hips very heavy. It's important to keep as much glute engagement as possible so the legs stay behind us (in hip extension) during the transition. I like to say.. act like you have a $100 between your butt cheeks and you can't lose it lolol
