Oooh! I have a Megan Babin on the needles too, Saven. Which size did you go for Stephen? I went up one to a 5, but I knit her Cord sweater in the 4. I usually take a couple of inches off the body length too.
Hey Corentin! I’m going to go with size 5 (50.25 inch). The size 4 is only 46.5” at the chest which I think is too tight for me. I feel this will be a little roomy without being oversized.
Crikey!!! I just had a look at Savin, that’s a lot of cable crosses.
Loving your knits, fantastic. Great to hear of your adventures. Thankyou both for sharing. I look forward to your next podcast.
Thanks Shirley!
I enjoy reading the comments just as much as I enjoy watching your podcasts.
They are fun!
Funny listening to you talking about Germany and your Impressions 👋from Hannover 💁♀️
Cool! I was bummed we didn’t get to Hannover, I really want to go there - that’s where my family came from before they came to New Zealand in 1873. -Bebe
Absolutely love seeing a husband-wife knitting podcast! Your knitting is beautiful and your relationship is too.
Thank you so much!
I would recommend checking the Taos festival (now in Santa Fe, NM) or the festival in Estes Park, CO
Awesome thank you!
Throw your Superwash sweater in the dryer on low and it will return to its original shape.
Great tips, thank you!
You might want to try Maryland Sheep and Wool or SAFF in South Carolina
Oooh that sounds good
My first time with you both and loved this podcast. I just couldn't believe that Stephen frogged his gorgeous Svenson. I guess I'm in a minority but I I thought the colour was beautiful and I liked the pattern too. I live in the UK but have never managed to get to Shetland. I know I'll enjoy watching your podcast about your trip there.
Welcome! I couldn’t believe it either! -Bebe
You have a fantastic memory Bebe! Nice meeting you and missing Stephen😂. Love the stitch counter and will be on the lookout for one. I think a Musselburg will be a perfect make for that Miss Babs Rhinebeck skein.
It was lovely to meet you :)
Your podcast episodes are never too long. I enjoy every minute of each topic! ❤❤❤ I have never been but would love to attend the biennial Knit City Vancouver at the end of September.
Ooooh, Knit City in Vancouver! That's going on the list! --Bebe
A 2 person podcast works so well! Lovely podcast
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your adventures. Love to see your knits and what’s coming up next. Have fun!
Thank you so much!
Come to Canada and you can wear your Aran colourwork sweaters!
That sounds like a dream! --Bebe
Welcome home, and thanks for taking us along for the journey. I recently purchased the Musselburgh pattern and have knit 3 so far, all in fingering weight. The only fiddly bit is the pinhole cast on but from there on it's a doddle, perfect travel, knit, sip n chat project. It is my favourite hat to wear. I have heard some people say it's a lot of knitting for a hat, but I find it a completely relaxing knit and the knit a little to get your gauge is so good. Good on you for frogging a sweater you weren't going to wear, it's such a freeing feeling in my opinion. I have made the Svenson and I really enjoyed making it and like how it looks on my hubby.
The Musselburgh sounds like just what I need for on-the-go knitting! --Bebe
Yes Bendigo wool & sheep show - Victoria, Australia - definitely worth the trip across the ditch
Okay, definitely interested in this! Have started researching....--Bebe
Many thanks for another great episode. I loved looking at all your finished projects and works in progress. You might like to consider the Australian Wool and Sheep Show held in Bendigo Victoria every July - next year 18/19/20th. While it doesn't have the beautiful grounds and autumn colours of Rhinebeck it is worth a visit. There are over 300 retail traders and the usual sheep and dog trials etc of a wool fair, so lots to see. For the US you might like to consider going to one of their knitting retreats. They are held in many places across the US usually in very beautiful locations, and often with a tutor of a particular technique. I also enjoyed hearing about your Rhinebeck experience. It is something I would like to do one day. I was wondering however whether you found the cost difference of yarn, food etc at Rhinebeck a bit of a surprise? I know when I recently travelled around Denmark I found that yarn was much the same cost as here in Australia after currency conversion, but in the US, from what I have noticed on Rhinebeck podcasts, yarn and food etc is about the same as here, but before the currency conversion, making items 50% more expensive. Something to consider I guess when planning a trip. Best wishes and many thanks.
Thanks for those ideas - Bendigo is (now) on the list! Yes, wool, and everything really, was very expensive in the US compared to here. The hand-dyed yarns were the same or more expensive than NZ even before the currency conversion - you have to really want something to spend that much! --Bebe
Thank you so much. This is such a fun podcast
Glad you enjoy it!
Thank you for another great podcast. What an amazing trip! I’ve been to most of the places you’ve visited on this trip (not Rhinebeck) but over many years. I enjoyed seeing them through your eyes.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Welcome home! Steven, your Troutbeck was amazing! And Briodagh? Holy moly! Incredible! Bebe, your Seaton looks fantastic! I wound up frogging mine, and restarting, as it was far too large. Almost as far as you are, but trying to finish my Framed sweater first. I likely won’t be able to wear either one in Texas, but they are lovely. Ilha is also on my list, and yours really is gorgeous. Thanks for another fantastic episode! -Lisa
Thank you for those compliments Lisa. It’s amazing being away but so good to be home too. Seaton and Framed in Texas … yep it’s about the joy of the journey and getting the result right ? - Stephen
I watched a couple of podcasts about Prince Edward Island Fibre Festival just recently, that is now on my 'to visit' list. The scenery and the classes and the extended activities would make a wonderful yarn trip. The girls from Fruitty Knitting go to the Swiss Yarn festival every year, that looks amazing, plenty of English speaking vendors. I too learned the hard way how much superwash jumpers grow! I d go down a size and a needle size now...... we live - we learn
PEI would be amazing! It's on my list too, but a little harder to get to from NZ. --Bebe
I've been working with superwash yarn for gifts for Christmas (to avoid giving the recipient a chore to maintain it), but I never use superwash for myself because I dislike the mystery of a sweater that turns out so different from the one you knitted.
It's a bit frustrating that's for sure. I much prefer woollen spun yarn for that reason! --Bebe
I got a small wooden "abacus" from a company named Farmacy at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. I use it all the time, although mine does not have a cover.
It's such a great idea! --Bebe
Bendigo wool festival looks fun. I will get there one day.
It's on the list! It looks amazing! --Bebe
Watching you two is dangerous for me. lol! You remind me of everything I want to knit! I want to knit Oa, the traveler hoodie (not the shell), I'm currently knitting the Seaton thanks to Bebe and loving it, -- what else? Oh, I want to knit the Esther jumper too. And I'm debating what sweater to knit (eventually) for my son, so I always love to see the sweaters from Stephen like the So Basic sweater. I didn't go to Rhinebeck. I think I've been enough times and hate crowds enough not to have a desire to go. But the Friday events are more tempting. There's a new one called A Woolen Affair that I'd like to go to. As for West Coast events, yes, Sacred Sheep, I think, is going on this weekend??? And in August there was the Flock yarn festival -- I think that' s what it's called. It's in Seattle, I think? Which means you can also go to Bainbridge Island where there are at least a couple of good yarn stores. :D I want to go -- someday. Never been to Seattle. And Bebe, thanks for that tip about the neckline knitting. I'm slowly learning that necklines make a big difference in fit of sweaters, so I need to remember that!! Anyway, glad you are home safe and sound. Thanks for another great podcast!
Hey Margaret! Thank you for these thoughts on events. I don’t know if I emphasised it enough in the video but I LOVE my So Basic Sweater. I mentioned I did mess up the sizing somewhat, but that does not detract from it.
So glad you guys had an amazing time! I now want to make the pilgrimage to Shetland. I've been to Rhinebeck since I live in NYC. But...the best yarn festival I've been to is the Prince Edward Island Fibre Fest. If you watch the podcast Fleece and Harmony, you've probably heard about it, since the podcast host, Kim, also organizes the festival. I was blown away by the natural beauty and tranquility of Prince Edward Island. It's a small but mighty festival. Thanks for knitting such gorgeous makes and just putting together a fantastic podcast. It's funny, I don't like horseshoe cables either!
Thank you for the find words. Prince Edward Island definitely sounds like a destination we could put on our radar. I think you’ve heard how much I love Shetland, but yes … you should definitely go there, just remember to pick the fine days like we did. I can’t vouch for it in bad weather, though I have seen videos … brrrr. - Stephen
Bebe that sweater is gorgeous on you, Stephen the glove is beautiful you have inspired me to knit fingerless gloves :) <3
Yay, thank you!
You’ve had such an incredible adventure over the past few weeks…thanks for taking us along! Bebe, the Masham is a long wool that will add drape and lustre to the yarn (hope that helps ❤). Safe travels home, Ailie x
I love masham!
It was fun running into you under the Rhinebeck photo tree while you were waiting for Stephen Bebe! Your Marie Wallin sweater was gorgeous and beautifully knit. Ditto the Framed cowl. Sorry to have missed seeing Stephen’s Troutbeck in person but into is gorgeous on the screen. Autumn in Rhinebeck is truly beautiful and the Sheep and Wool show is the best around.
It was great to see you Kat!
@@justanotherknittingpodcast For what it is worth, I was tongue tied and ran at the mouth when I met you and that sweater!! Tracie and Jodi have nothing on you 😊
Stephen, your sweater turned out beautifully! BeeBee, love your matchy matchy-ness.🎉
Thank you so much. Troutbeck got some major wear during the trip.
Thank for adding the castles!
No problem!
It's so good to knit while listening and watching your podcast till the very last second ! ❤❤❤
I really enjoy your podcast and I envy your looong vacation journey 😉I'm just sorry that you skipped Copenhagen! You would've found all the Sandnes yarn and Petiteknit stuff that you would have wanted - all the yarn shops carry Sandnes yarn! Next time you decide to go to the Scandinavien countries get in touch with me and I'll take you on a yarn-shop-crawl in Copenhagen! 😊
Denmark is on our list of countries to visit. I guess flying over it as we flew to Hamburg doesn’t count, though we did see it from the air. 😀
We will for sure come back and visit Copenhagen! We want to be able to come to Denmark when we have more time and can really explore properly rather than having a flying visit.
Really appreciate the knitting for men point of view!
Your welcome. I shook Max’s hand and thanked him for designing men’s patterns also.
For Norwegian cruising, also check out Havila. They do the same thing but the ships look to be much newer and more comfortable.
We will have a look into it. Bebe is a prodigious researcher. The planning is a large part of the fun.
Great tip, thank you! I had a quick google, the ships look great. -Bebe
For your LBA mohair, I recommend the Elton Pullover from Joji Locatelli. You just need a lace weight yarn to hold with it for the opaque stripes. It’s a gorgeous pattern and really shows off the mohair.
Funny, I was just saying to Stephen that I really want Elton, but I don’t want to knit it! How hard is knitting mohair single?! -Bebe
Most excellent travelogue guys, Rhinebeck lived up to the hype 💫 beautiful scenery, the fairgrounds - artichokes French… in 2012 my knitspo Stephen West was wearing his knitted shorts 🫶🏻 I did the same super groupie inane chatter, he was incredibly witty, self deprecating and v v v tall irl.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This episode is just great. I’ve been scribbling down your patterns and wools . I’m writing the episode from Auckland 17 degrees abit cool. What an amazing trip very envious. Thank you.
Thank you! We try and link everything in the episode description, so hopefully that helps.
Hi I'm really enjoying listening to your chat about knitting and hearing about your travels to the various yarn festivals. You mention a desire to go to the Scandinavian countries - I strongly recommend going to Copenhagen for several days. It is such a lovely, people-friendly city that is so easy to get around. There are so many yarn shops to explore , not all in the centre of the city, but in close suburbs that are easily accessible by bus or the great Metro system. If you would like a list of the ones I recommend I'd be happy to let you know. Otherwise, there are several podcasts on UA-cam by young knitters going to CPH just to do a 'yarn crawl' which will give you so much information. I think the city is the Mecca for knitting. And, bonus, if you spend more than 300DK (about $70 NZD) in the one store AND you ask the shop owner to fill in the right forms, you can get some of the GST back at the airport :). Enjoy.
This sounds amazing! I want to go to a knitting Mecca! We are planning to go there next time we go to Europe and spend a good amount of time exploring. -Bebe
Ah it’s too bad I didn’t see you at the festival! Not a surprise since it was so crowded but glad you had such a good time I love your videos!
Thank you! Next time we will arrange a meet up :)
I missed seeing you on the hill. I saw the large grouping of folks on the hill for the photo shoot, but it’s like finding a needle in the haystack when you try to find someone in the sea of Framed sweaters. I’m happy you both experienced Rhinebeck magic with the beautiful weather we had this weekend. Cheers and wishing you safe travel back home.
Sad that we missed each other. Next time maybe we can have an organised meet up, that would be fun! (Don’t tell Stephen, but I’m already making plans in my head for next year haha!) -Bebe
@@justanotherknittingpodcast same here 😁
Loved your episode. Wonderful that you managed to meet some knitting celebrities 😅. I live in the US and my sister is in Brisbane and we would love to make it to Rhinebeck one year.
That would be such a fun way to meet up!
I'm going to do a "running commentary" so I don't forget to comment on certain things. 1. CreaBea loves the type of design where you start by knitting the back, then picking up stitches on either side to start the fronts. I've never knitted that style before but Doocote and Crea Bea's patterns are on my todo list. 2. BFL is one of the long wools, so it has lots of luster. I believe it tends to be a bit like merino in softness? Masham would I imagine be a more rustic yarn. It seems a very common breed to throw in to provide more oomph to a yarn. I'm not super knowledgeable, but that's what I have gathered. Also just have to say -- love the town of Rhinebeck! It has antique shops, nice restaurants, cute other shops, -- it's wonderful! Lucky you to stay at that inn -- I've always wondered about it. I will admit -- I didn't go to Rhinebeck. I tend to take for granted that it's right there. I've been various times through the years. Hope you had fun! (I'm a big fan girl as well, so I don't blame you for flipping out over the Grocery Girls. Lucky you!). Safe trip to the next destination -- home? Take care.
Wow thank you for the comments! I am keen to try Rebecca’s Stick Season as it has the shaped back rather than short rows - maybe a “stick-less” one. Great info about the BFL and Masham, thank you. And I loved Rhinebeck and the whole area in general. I will be back for sure! -Bebe
I am a big fan of the Sophie Shawl too. I have made two so far. It's a great travel project and if you only have a certain amount of yarn you can knit until you use half of it, then start the decreases, which is what I did with the second one. Hopefully you got to wear some of your knitwear at Rhinebeck this weekend. It was coldin the mornings and evenings. I had a question about using the elastic. How do you secure the ends? Do you tie them in a knit, or weave them in? Do they stay woven in? I want to use it too but am not sure how to keep the ends secure. Love your podcast. You guys are so genuine. I tell all my friends to start following you. Keep on doing what you do, it is appreciated.
Thank you so much! The Sophie is great, and you’re right about it being good for traveling - I’ve knit three now, all while traveling. -Bebe
So enjoyed hearing about your knitting and adventures. I've knit the Ilha and think all of Orlane Sucche's patterns fit so well. I'll be interested to know if you think so also. Gorgeous Briodag glove--MUST teach my husband to knit 😊 Hope the trip home was easy and you are again enjoying beautiful Christchurch. Thanks for just another lovely knitting podcast.
I love Orlane’s patterns. I’ve made Morrow and have Azor and Fanel in my favorites 🤩 -Bebe
Where is this amazing woolshop in the suburb of Hamburg? I live close to Hamburg and would love to go there. I could shop for wool while thinking of you 😊.
It’s in Sternschanze. Not huge, but a good variety. www.mylys.de/about-us?srsltid=AfmBOoq_4e_qzGspZS57SlaUiDJAB6RMNaC2uZIEvN9WssluC6AczCY5
Thank you both for another lovely podcast. I've been watching you since the beginning and really like your content. Have a nice trip! And by the way, I live in the countryside in Hamburg😊. It's called "Vier- und Marschlande". I always find it interesting when other people talk about the city/country where you live.🧡 Birgit
Thank you. I loved Hamburg and definitely want to go back and explore the area more. -Bebe
Such a fabulous trip 💗
Great episode…it’s lovely going along on your travels…
Glad you enjoyed it
Wonderful to hear all about your trip up to here - knitters certainly are wonderful people, I travel alone now since my husband passed and I find if I sit down with my knitting at an airport or coffee shop someone will come and have a chat and it is really lovely. Have a safe trip home and look forward to watching your next podcast 🌸
It’s such an amazing community 💕
