I'm listening (and watching) this material to myself and thinking to myself how lucky we were to have been touched by Procol Harum. Thanks to Brooker and Co. one has experienced many magical and wonderful moments in life. For some it's half a century, for others a little less, but no one can take those memories away from us. So, yes... any fan of any other band will say the same thing. But what can I say?

What a great sound quality! Hermann has made an effort. Heck, it's almost twenty years back. And I still have those two memorable days in my mind. For me, a special concert - although I won't say I haven't seen better or even brilliant ones. It's just that I finally scored live with “Something Magic,” which I had been dreaming about since 1992, and I also remember wondering what the hell is this “Sister Mary”? It made a big impression on me, something along the lines of a virgin experience - because here, unexpectedly like a meteorite, something new was revealed to us.

I was doing a gig in Surrey UK in a little village hall about 1980 and Gary Brooker was there.I had my Hammond Organ with me and of course I had to get him up to sing A Whiter Shade Of Pale.Sounded just like the record.Amazing memory.

Something that MaF used to do on this one was playing both the synth guitar part and Hammond at the same time, which in turn freed Geoff from doing the riff, allowing him to play some pretty awesome solos. It’s really hard to do (I did once in 2016 with SormoRock…risky!) but it’s worth it.

Awesome song. I remember this song from the early 1990s, and Procol Harum played it live with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Hope you have a Happy New Year. Cheers! 👍👍✌️

Conundrum. I can’t recall ever using that word before. Then there’s Procol Harum. I was a kid when they caught my attention. And honestly, they were never a big favorite of mine. But if I were handing out awards for the greatest rock single of all time, and also another for the greatest rock lyrics of all time, I’d be pretty comfortable handing both to Procol Harum. The composition and melodic simplicity of Whiter Shade of Pale, together with Brooker’s soulful vocals is four minutes of utterly satisfying music, no matter what genre one happens to favor. To me, this song is flawless. When I first heard Conquistador, I was instantly riveted to its lyrics, especially as surrounded by the dramatic orchestral arrangement. They combined somehow to take control of all my senses. Decades later, I can still close my eyes and let the drama unfold through every phrase, every word, from the urgent opening strings, to the last lingering note of the trumpeter’s horn.
