I have just listened to your podcast and found it very informative. Especially the project check with me first, of rolling out awareness and training to NHS England around the complexities of the vulnerable position for survivors attending medical appts and hospital dentists etc. I have been putting together a blog all around this as I have at first hand recently and in past around this issue. It is refreshing to know this is being rolled out however it would be good for survivors to know that this is happening to at least inform that changes are trying to be put in place, and it would be good to know where this is being rolled out. It is the first time I have heard of this. I will be making contact with Fay for more info and ask permissions to put some info in my blog. So a huge thank you to Fay and for all she does and is doing..... Thankyou ladies for another insightful podcast.....

This has to be one of the closest podcasts to explain a lot of who I am and why I do what I do (if that makes sense) so much so I'm going to get my husband to listen to it. It doesn't matter what I say to explain the way I am and what I do and my behaviours, feelings, emotions and my purpose, focus etc. My husband doesn't totally understand and I think anything that can inform, give an insight can only be a positive. I have his full support and love that isn't in question but I think understanding what my normal is and why is beneficial for us both. Perhaps an idea for another podcast is the relationships with partners other people close to you and how their perspective of living with a survivor. Thank you both for another insightful, raw, real conversation....xx

Lol… oh sir… I just want the fire alarm to STOP, I’m not afraid of the fire🔥… bring it ! I just can’t tolerate the alarm. Truly. In the real world I would disengage any and all alarms because hearing it go off falsely is so destabilizing to me I would prefer the fire or the burglar or murderer 🤷‍♀️ That’s how I feel internally… like a alarm is constantly making that horrendous sound and I can’t make it stop and I can’t take out the batteries, pull out he wires, unplug it, make it stop. There is no fire. There is no burglar, there is no threat… just an annoying alarm. It’s like living in a house with a fire alarm going off randomly and you don’t have the key or access to shut it down, you just have to try to endure it. It’s too sensitive. Any movement sets it off. Any sound sets it off. Breathing too hard sets it off. A sneeze sets it off. A cough. Dropping something sets it off../ And yet you can’t turn it off for hours days weeks. Continuous loud mind bending repetitive noise preventing sleep, rest, ability to think, process. And yet you can’t get out of the house. You are locked inside. A prisoner. Without the key to stop the alarm or exit the building. Locked in. That’s what it feels like to have MCS. And maybe ME/CFS and maybe Long Covid. But nobody else will acknowledge there is an alarm malfunctioning. They just tell you are crazy and move about as though there is no alarm. As though it isn’t blaring it isn’t even there. But it is. Somehow they have tuned it out. They no longer hear the blare or see the flashing continuous light… they don’t perceive it anymore, it’s become background noise they have adapted to and habituated to carry on. Yet it’s there in the foreground me, loud and clear and ever present. Trauma🤷‍♀️ Got a lot of that. How could you not with what is described? C-PTSD Trauma or Autism. Or both. So now I can e the hero… of my own story. Be the person who stops the alarm? By training my brain to tune it out… pretend it isn’t there. By training my brain there is no fire no burglar no toxic fumes… just an annoying alarm that randomly goes off and persists and everything is fine and eventually I won’t even hear or see the alarm like everyone else. Got it. We live in a world where people must pretend there is no alarm bells ringing to move along and carry on. Everything is fine. Nothing to see here. We are all safe. Got your mask, your vaccine, your GMO food card and government subsidized housing and every little thing s gonna be alright Marley playing with Woman Don’t Cry lol. Makes sense to me considering the insanity of the past few years. No threat. Just taking heads sounding the death bell alarm 24/7. Now you are all fine, because we programmed you to believe you were ping to die then we programmed you we you the cure, if something went wrong and you are still having problems then be your own hero and train your own damn brain we did our part. It’s you. All on you. Here is your Hero Cape! No weapons allowed. Be quiet. Move along. Only we get to pull the alarm and activate the weapons and program your brain. Good luck mate! See you on the other side of Hell. Ok. Got it. Hans Solo feel the force. So you don’t really need the job and you don’t really need ivermectin and you don’t really need anything but to tell your brain that you’re safe and override everything in the world that signaling that it isn’t. Sounds like a great cheap. fix and it’s all on you. So convenient. Your symptoms are real but you’re the hero in your story you figure it out tell your brain everything’s OK now. Got it. And it’s OK to say no. So we really do have autonomy we don’t have to do what they tell us to do or we might lose our job our house or our benefits or our college opportunity… if we say no. And it’s safe to express our anger and speak up and speak out and resist now you say but it wasn’t really safe then but now it’s safe so just tell your brain everything’s OK now and move along and carry on and get back to work we need your income and spending tax money. I am a believer in brain retraining All you have to do is look around and see how easily it’s done to train the brain but I am quite familiar with how hard it is to then deprogram the brain and retrain it post trauma. It’s work. Because well you were worked over so yeah it’s gonna be a lot of work. Write the young people in the old people and a lot of people in the middle just don’t feel safe anymore I can’t imagine why. But we are you say. We are safe. 🎶 singing don’t worry about a thing every little thing is going to be all right 🦜🦜🦜

Check out our latest podcast special with Fatima Whitbread the day after she was awarded the Helen Rollason award. Fatima explains why it is important to her and the work she is doing going forwards. Fatima explains why and how we can all get involved. #childprotection is everyones business. It takes 1 person to turn a child / young persons life around something Beverley Ann Trauma Specialist Recovery Practitioner Speaker and I have spoken about on multiple occassions. Fatimas work focuses in on #careleavers and the importance of sport for all children and young people which is massively important. At Breaking The Cycle To Step Forward Podcast (and all our work) we have highlighted and explored the endemic public health issue of abuse in all its forms (mental, emotional, physical, sexual) and how it affects children in all the ways in which it is perpetrated. *Online *Offline *Within the family network *Outside the family network *Within Institutions *Let Down By Institutions Its prevalence, its impact is far bigger than anyone knows or can imagine across the board. There are many individuals and organisations doing great work which we applaud. 2024 is about us all driving forwards and collaborating where we can to address the whole picture. #ActOnIICSA Independent Inquiry Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) is a must. Does the enquiry help survivors? NHS and local social services still do not listen to survivors or learn from experience of survivors. I was also abused by my dad, but nhs, schools and social services did not look into why I had terrible problems at school and never made friends. The child guidance clinic letter to adult services said "despite his high IQ, it was very painful talking with ...., he came to few sessions but wanted to return age 18. I fear the outlook for his life looks very bleak." This was never addressed, just labelled and medicated. I found this letter age 49 when I bought my medical notes. It confirmed the neglect I felt.

The Inquiry's objective was to hear experiences of a section of victims/survivors to understand how Institutions had let down many children and young people, to enable recommendations to be actioned by the Government. Sadly a year later many of these recommendations have not been acted upon, however we keep the conversation going to ensure this stays in the public domain. Sorry to hear about your experiences and hope you have support. If you would like information for signposting regarding peer to peer support please email: breakingthecycletostepforward@gmail.com

This podcast resonated with my own lived experience in some ways. My father was a well respected in his work and outside in the masonic world. He was also well known for his wood turning and often would be commissioned to make pieces. This person was one of my primary abusers. He was a pipe smoker and I had to light his pipe. I choose to tell this as what goes on behind closed doors is not what it looks like to others that know that person. There was very much two sides to my home life. Reassuring people re reporting or not is good to explain. Choice is yours and whatever you decide it is ok. As you say SELF CARE... Thankyou

Another fantastic podcast, thank you. There are so many variables in a friendship. Having boundaries and as a survivor this is so important. When we can have that choice to who we befriend who we connect with and I know for myself, friendships came a lot later for me. Just understanding that concept was an education in itself. During my childhood my trauma I would crave any such attention without any boundaries as all I wanted was to be liked, to be loved. For me, that meant anything anyone wanted from me they had it. It's only in my later years I have realised and learnt about what a real friendship is and what it is I want for myself. I've made so many mistakes in my early adulthood and been hurt that it meant even now I am very wary and careful and actually making good choices re friendships and what they mean for me. Value yourself first and foremost, and then you are able to see the value in others.

Firstly, thank you both for having the courage to discuss this subject. Without going into details, I can resonate with what you shared. I dissociated during intimacy, and actually, I question I was even intimate as I consider that word to be a loving term an experience that is enjoyed by both parties. I was consenting because I loved my partner. However, I was also going through an act that, for me, had no feeling. I grieve for never having that loving initamcy by having sex. My abusers have denied me of that. On a side note, let me say that I am blessed to be in a loving relationship. Sex has not been the basis of our relationship. That is ok, too. I want to be able to tell people you can have a loving relationship without sex. You can have a version of intimacy that is loving. I have been in conversations with peers over the years, and the majority say not having sex is not normal in a relationship. I generally kept quiet in those conversations as I was made to feel abnormal. As a survivor, telling the one in four about this subject is so important as we do feel judged. Well, I speak for me, and I do. So Thank-you again ladies for a very good podcast which. I believe there is more to be discussed on this.

I remember a time when someone said to me "Stand in your own power" and I didn't see it back then or truly understand it. However, the beauty of recovery is being able to recognise and embrace it.

Fantastic podcast. As a survivor of Ritual abuse I want to thank you for highlighting this and acknowledging it. Can I also say as a survivor of this to give some hope, is that you can heal and come through adversity from ritual abuse. Like you said Beverley, yes acknowledge those dates in the season that trigger but then reframe it do something on those days months that will give you new positive memories that you can revisit without distress. This goes for other seasons too. As you both said about choices. So again ladies huge thanks...

Hello Pauline and thank you for commenting and sharing your own experience. This is important in inspiring others and we have learnt much from yourself about Ritual Abuse. We can't change what has happened however with support knowledge and learning we are able to make choices for ourselves, to lead the life you can enjoy xx

I watch slot of crime documentaries and the vast majority had a abusive or traumatic experience as children. Slot of parents struggle as well to bring up their own children because of their own trauma .unable or don't know how to protect their own children . Maybe substance or alcohol abuse is involved therefore causing harm to their own children . The effects of child abuse trauma is society's biggest flaw

Agree Diane. Many do not understand the harm they could be causing their children. Often they are in denial themselves or just do not understand their trauma and their response to the trauma and how this impacts the next generation. This has to change.

Another insightful podcast. Absolutely 💯 openess is paramount and having these conversations. I think of the train monologue you hear. If you see it, say it Sort it....Don't be blinded be vigilant have those conversations. Our young people and all children young adults, adults owe it to ourselves to be safe from abuse....Thank you ladies.....

For me I have had a big learning curve in that I now don't justify why I am doing something that brings me joy. It is now about having that joy and being honest with myself in smiling and for it to be real. My happiness now is free is valid is ok....I am not answerable to anyone except me....Another fabulous podcast...Thank you...

Another insightful podcast with lots of useful tips and acknowledgement between the physical and mind and how there is a connection. I know this first hand and have and continue to work on those areas. One question if ok. How when during our sleep can we self care in the physical pains we suffer when movement not possible. When all we want is to sleep without those pains. For example in the hands. Hope that makes sense.... Thank you...

Hello Pauline and thank you for your question - when we think of sleep, preparation is just as important. Have you considered that as part of your evening preparation about massaging hand cream into your hands (maybe even add some lavender oil?) This will help to release any tension in them - I carry hand cream around with me as part of my self care as I often apply it to my hands, especially for relaxation. Try this for a month and let me know if you notice anything? Beverley

Wow, my auntie recommended this channel to help with my journey. I feel heard and there’s allot of things I was unaware of. This has opened up my eyes in the morning and I’m beginning to finally see glimmers of hope. And to think this was only after one video, i’m looking forward to watching more. Thank you both so much.

I have now listened to this and want to say how much it resonates with me. You have connected the podcasts really well too in that Boundaries, Trust, Vulnerability, are all part of when you trust you open up your own vulnerabilities then you put in place boundaries to protect that and as a survivor its finding that balance and feeling comfortable in yourself and then with others to have that trust. Look forward to your next podcast. I will keep sharing as will undoubtedly help many. THANK YOU BOTH...
