    The problem is that the ai generated art that you used as "reference" (really you just copied it), looks way better than what you made

    • @theartistnamed
      @theartistnamed Місяць тому

      Thanks for your honesty. I actually did that on purpose. I usually like to draw from real life because the connection I get when really looking at the details, shapes, colors, and the relationship to its environment. I copy what I see when studying the subject to learn how to draw it right and better until I become comfortable with drawing from memory. But sometimes I don't have the resources to draw from real life so I need to look at an image. The goal with trying out AI was to see if I can create the idea in my head and then draw it. In the future if I continue with AI, I will most likely use it to help me visual something that I struggle with understanding like if I want to draw torn drapes hanging on a busted window. I LOVE to sit and draw, the experience of using a pencil, pen or whatever is relaxing and therapeutic. Whether its a good drawing or not, I will continue to do it and hopefully improve with time.

      @@theartistnamed Aww man sorry, I didn't realize you're a small channel when I wrote that, else I would probably have kept my negativity to myself. Keep up the good work! I just found it strange that you talked about using AI as a reference, then just redrew what the AI did. That's like drawing pikachu and calling it original art inspired by pokemon. Referencing other art for me is more like taking the composition from one piece, the color palette from another one, adding your own characters, maybe the characters are inspired by multiple characters you have seen before, like the eyes of one character, the hair of another character and so on, but together they become something new and original. Especially the phone with the camera lenses was such a missed opportunity to improve on where the AI had failed since the AI rendition didn't really make sense, you could have removed the smaller phone lenses, the weird one in the center and emphasized and refined the two that made sense by referencing photos of cameras and move the charging port to the bottom so it at least looks like a phone, but instead of improving on what the AI did, you just copied it including its flaws.

    • @theartistnamed
      @theartistnamed Місяць тому

      Thank you! I completely agree with you on the phone drawing, in fact, after I drew it I had a better idea on how to draw it. I think using AI can have its benefits like helping you when in a rut or you need a little nudge. It can help you explore various compositions or motive you to gain some inspiration. But in the end our imagination and the power of our creativity looks more authentic and original when let our minds do the drawing. I want to do a drawing video where I improve the phone camera drawing, I will tag you in it so you can tell me what you think! :)

    I appreciate your open-mindedness, especially your willingness to try it and and learn about it. Personally I recommend Forge, which is also a locally installed AI program, like ComfyUI. I think ComfyUI is more suited for refining the generation process, resulting in longer generation times but better consistently good results (as long as you know what you're doing). While forge is more suited for quick iterations, more suited for quick feedback and manual intervention through inpainting and such.

    • @theartistnamed
      @theartistnamed Місяць тому

      Thank you! I will check it out. ComfyUI definitely has a learning curve, I have a Quadroom P5000 which gives me 16gb of Ram, but it does take awhile to generate a quality image.

    • @sitnamkrad
      @sitnamkrad Місяць тому

      @@theartistnamed Having a large pool of Ram does help, but you'll want to pay attention to the number of CUDA cores on your card as well. And depending on your install, you may need to adjust your settings to make sure those cores are being used. For reference, in Forge an RTX4070 Ti can create a batch of 4 pictures (1024 x 1024 each) using 20 sampling steps in about half a minute. I prefer local installs because it's "free" (yes you need to buy a computer, but a decent gaming PC does fine), but also because you have a lot more control over your setup. You're not limited by the styles, training data and prompt censorship of whatever website you would be using. Eventually you will find models and settings that work the best for your system and purposes.

    It's a series of tech companies forcing their way into an industry that never asked for what they're delivering, so they can make billions of dollars from every industry that requires art to be produced, film, game, book covers, advertisement, you name it, they saw a way to drive costs and production times down while shitting all over the human artists, who managed to make careers out of what they love and are so skilled at doing, who will slowly get pushed out of those industries completely. Business execs don't care about art, they care about the numbers, AI is a business tool, not an artists one. there is a monumental difference between the age of digital art, photoshop etc, where the user still requires physical and mental art skills to use said programs effectively, and AI which requires better understanding of language and prompting, you cant take what you do with AI and apply it to physical art for example, you don't have the same skillset or understanding. Any 'artist' that says they happily use AI is doing so because they're too eager to jump ahead of whatever skills they've not mastered yet, a lack of patience and self worth that probably echoes in other aspects of their lives. You have people talking about creating their vision, though a huge part of creating is having a vision which evolves be it by creative limitations or accidental experimentation, to move away from that initial vision is just as important and though I don't know the exact extent of their input, but using this 'tool' is no different to hiring talented people, giving them a brief and letting them 'create your vision' where you can't. AI, the commission machine? There is a difference between those who commission work to be created and those doing the creating, both undeniably produce results, but anyone using AI should choose their title appropriately, not a musician, a producer, not an artist, an art director. Great business positions to have, go get it, climb the ladder at your fav corp and make that money, but don't parade yourself as something you're not or speak up for artists who do care about art.

    • @sitnamkrad
      @sitnamkrad Місяць тому

      This sounds like it was written by someone who doesn't have the slightest idea of how AI actually works if you try it for anything serious. And I'm willing to bet you've never actually used AI yourself. (incoming excuse for why you refuse to do so while at the same time talking as if you know all about it) It was already explained in the video that if you really want to get something good out of it, it requires a lot of trial and error. Figuring out how the prompts work, what programs to use etc. And even then it's difficult to get the exact image that you want. It's also blatantly false that AI skills don't translate at all to any other art. You still need to have knowledge about shape and color theory. Also perspective, anatomy, body language and facial expressions. You argument about jumping ahead of whatever skills they've not mastered is the same argument that was used in the past to dismiss digital art. "It's easier so now it loses my respect". Not to mention your blatant accusation of a lack of self worth in the rest of your life if you use AI. You are the exact kind of person why many people don't care about supporting artists in this fight anymore. Because yes, there are some issues with AI that still need to be sorted out. But why go through that trouble just to defend dishonest and hateful people like you? Luckily the video shows me there's still artists out there who are more open minded and actually give things a chance without demonizing the tool or the people who use it.

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I think its good to analyze and research things that impact your career and way of life. I admit there was a time in recent past years where I was cursing Canva for taking work from my business! But instead of feeling that anger and resentment, I found a new way stay creative and enjoy my life. We have a choice where we put our time and money. I had a small creative business that struggled to compete with the emerging new tech and ways of doing things. I struggled with taking shortcuts to produce products using automated tools because I began to loose that joy of the "creative process". At the end of the day you need to ask yourself, "Do I stay true to the craft and process I passionately believe in?". "Or do I allow myself to adopt new and emerging tech and tools?". Either way we all have to choose and I have a respect for those who stay the path they are on and ones who explore and learn new ways of doing things.

    I mean I've been using it as a tool in music, and it felt like removing the shackles holding me back. And I'm not just talking about prompting and boom the output is the final product. No it's just a tool for me to construct then rip apart and create into my actual vision. It's made me go from being an audio engineer/song writer/arranger and moved me into the producer position (producer in the original sense of the word being like the director for a film) my work is much closer to the original image/vision I see with my mind when in starting out.

    Hey, Just using the Loomis method while learning to draw a portrait makes the head plane instead of a 3D object. If you combine the Loomis method and The planes of the head, you will get a faster and better understanding of the head. In the beginning, learning with male reference makes it easy to see the planes of the face, and choosing to concentrate on a single angle and the face elements is a better way to improve quickly. 😁

    • @theartistnamed
      @theartistnamed 6 місяців тому

    • @colincannings7946

      Without the gesture and correct proportion, the planes don't work very well. Can I ask, when you say plane, are you referring to value, tone and shading?

    • @theartistnamed
      @theartistnamed 4 місяці тому

      @@colincannings7946 I believe what ingridousa was saying is that the idea is that Loomis Method is a good start for getting placements and sections of the head but when adding the face elements consider the "planes" or surface angles to correctly build them up. The book "Figure Drawing: Design and Invention " I mentioned in the description of this video teaches this idea. Building the planes for facial features in a 3d space will also help you understand how to shade the facial features correctly.
