How Does Goodbye To A World Recreate Nostalgia?
Goodbye To A World, a song that embodies nostalgia. While other songs are nostalgic through memories. Porter Robinson's song seeks to recreate nostalgia. In the video, I talk about the lyrics of the song, music theory, and how I discovered the song, which made me make this video.

I've always felt that this is the same train of thought that made them not put "Down Is The New Up" on In Rainbows. It's the kind of song that could have become something bigger than what they wanted.

i liked this decision to keep Lift out, because, i mean, it would sound a little bit out of place, sounds more like a The Bends song. I really love this song, but I think Ok Computer is perfect just the way it is

I beat the game last night (I think it’s the best game I’ve ever played) and didn’t cry at Duet. I had already heard the song, was actually learning it on piano and had head everyone say “it’ll make you cry”. I did think it was incredibly sad and idk maybe I’ll end up crying if I think about it today. Great video!

Fun Fact both Sad Machine and Goodbye to a World are probably among the most popular English VOCALOID songs to ever be written. Both songs features VOCALOID 3 AVANNA giving both songs its unique robotic charm. Robinson himself is such a VOCALOID fan that he developed his own VOCALOID called Po-Uta.

I liked the old version more. It's called "RadioHead Lift studio Mix #1" on youtube. The new one just doesn't hit the same way

I build nuclear submarines for a living. Every time I hear this song, I always reminded the concludedity and absoluteness the consequences of the things that I spend so much time building. I know I didn't come up with the idea of nuclear nor even the first idea of a nuclear ICBM, I still have a huge concept of blame and guilt

They kind of did the same to Videotape. Originally it was a huge stadium piano rock song, you could feel its potential in every live recording. So they toned it down and turned it into an intimate closer.

one of my favorite songs on worlds by far. you basically said everything there is to know about the song lol. that first part of the song with that powerful ramp up that just feels almost like an ascension, the culmination of life and it's experiences like a celebration of the past followed with a more downtempo middle section to reflect on life and the experiences brought to one's mind by the first act, then finally a release of this tension in the final part as a farewell. porter was so ahead of his time in terms of the electronic music scene and his songwriting abilities, at least for me, no one has rivaled. goodbye to a world is such a phenomenal track and adds substantially to porter's message of nostalgia and escape on Worlds. This album has so much depth and covers so much ground regarding the human experience and celebrating nostalgia and cherishing the things and experiences that make up ourselves. Another track on this record that creates that feeling for me is Fresh Static Snow. I assume you've listened to it but incase you or whoever's reading this hasn't: It's a song about loneliness and does an amazing job at capturing those mixed feelings when it comes to finding love and that "perfect person" (i wont spoil too much of it but just know it doesnt have a hopeless conclusion). Porter is so good at encapsulating that "happy-sad" feeling and it heavily contributes to what makes this album so nostalgic and he further exemplifies that feeling with this song. also the live edit goes fucking crazy

i liked this song early 2018ish, i wasnt old enough to understand the nostalgia from it and just liked how it sounded. Listening back now, with added context makes this so much sadder, since this brand of music is a world i said goodbye to so slowly over the years i never even knew i said goodbye. I moved on and forgot.

it's so funny because (the title is stupid xD) should have added then some and not you as everyone- like I found it nice and cute but wouldnt make me cry. poems in the fog makes me cry instead. and I also cried on the sherlock eurus violin duet in the end of the show. tbh it was less the music but more the animations that got people. if the animations wouldn't be there and you would still just see omori's battle face people would not find it sooo touching.

I loved Radiohead until I found out they were occupation apologists and now genocide apologists. When Yorke gave the finger to people who support BDS he gave the finger to most of the people on the planet: I hope everyone learnswhat Karma Police was really about!

Great video! Final Duet is truly a beautiful theme. Happy to see this video getting picked up by the algorithm. On a side note, is it alright if i reference parts of this video for a school project? Currently writing an essay on video game music and sound design, where Omori is one of the games i'm discussing. This video would be a great addition to my sources!

The reason it's so sad is that the whole game was building up to the final duet. After the long emotional journey you've made through whole the game, you are hit with one of the most beautiful scenes in video games
