    Nice video. But, many tourists are entitled but wont take the time out to learn to speak any Japanese. How would these tourists like it if someone touched and harassed them? Treat people how you want to be treated. Have manners when you are allowed entry into someone's home. You would want a guest to respect yours, right?

      Ooh that's a tough call! I would probably say Sapporo if you're going to spend a long time there, because you can go and explore more of Hokkaido from there. But it's just a few days or you want easy access to Tokyo, Karuizawa is a good option!

    I'm not sure when exactly you took this flight, but British Airways runs the Airbus A350-1000 and Boeing 787-9 for the two daily flights to/from Tokyo. It looks like you were on the 787-9. The A350-1000 would've had the much newer BA "Club Suite" seat, so you might've inadvertently downgraded yourself to the old seat by accepting the earlier flight :O

    • @cassandra_lord

      My theory is that I was on the 787-9 anyway, because I had the cheapest business class tickets, and I was on a similar plane on the other leg. I have no idea if that theory is correct, but it would make sense to me that the more expensive tickets would have the nicer planes!

Seriously there's way too many people everywhere. It stinks! You can't smell the cherry blossoms. All you hear around you are people speaking in English, Korean, Chinese just like North America. Looks like a fun experience! Sorry too well actually you and I'm sure they're are others in the comments. But, your explanation of how the knife gets thicker with sharpening was a little off. The knife has two bevels, the primary bevel which is the overall taper of the blade towards the edge and the edge bevel itself. It seemed like you were talking about the edge bevel getting flatter over time. The edge bevel will continue to have the same angle of the sharpener as you're sharpen. But, you will be moving that secondary bevel up the primary bevel. As you go up the primary bevel it gets thicker towards the spine. TLDR: sharpening causes your knife to get thicker directly behind the edge of the secondary bevel.

      Currently there is only a Japanese application form for photography in Gion, and even that requires that you adhere to certain rules, as it assumes you are taking wedding photos or kimono photos as opposed to photos of the street itself. Some of the rules include no night photography or photos in front of doorways: www.gion-shinbashi.jp/c/manner.html Other than that, there is currently no concrete information about any other permits. You're right. That is why I used quotation marks in the thumbnail, to indicate that's what people are calling it. But the people who don't realise it is not Kyoto-wide will not search "Gion". Do you have any suggestions?

      What a nitpicking and useless comment. Welcome to UA-cam. Catchy titles is kind of our thing.

    Do they ship the knives to the US?

      As far as I'm aware, no, unfortunately. If you visit and buy one in person then you just need to wrap it tightly and put it in your stowed luggage. Are you trying to buy one online without visiting?

    Yesssss! I stumbled across your channels and subscribed so quickly. I don’t see many brits in Japan online but ALL of America 😂 I appreciate you! And this Brit will be in Japan in April and CANNOT wait! 🎉🎉🎉🎉

    I wonder if there's any breeding programs to include American varieties that are well suited to humidity and rain, like Frontenac.

      That's a very interesting thought! I'm not sure, but I hope that someone does try if they haven't already, given that the Japanese varieties are just combinations of existing overseas varieties

    Great post. Thank you. Just one thing, you say November isn’t peak season at all, but I thought going in the Autumn to see the autumn colours is a very popular time and therefore would expect flight prices in October and November to be high. Am I wrong?

    • @cassandra_lord
      @cassandra_lord 2 місяці тому

      That's a very good question! But looking at pre-pandemic tourism data, historically November sees a bit of a dip, along with September and February. This could simply be because people aren't travelling much just before they take off time over Christmas. But also, the Tokyo autumn leaves don't come in to colour until late November in Tokyo, but they can be earlier or later in other regions. Here's an example autumn foliage forecast from last year: livejapan.com/en/article-a0002628/ I was also looking at flights between Tokyo and London, so this could be a very different story between Hokkaido and Taiwan for example, where more people visit for the autumn leaves around that time!

      Thank you Cassandra, that’s really interesting. Planning a trip soon to Japan, been on my bucket list for ages! Spring time with the cherry blossoms or Autumn time are supposed to be the best seasons to visit but will probably go for autumn when as you say slightly less busy than in spring and less expensive flights too. Will look into business class as such a long flight! Thinking of Tokyo, Hakone national park, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and Takayama as an Itinerary. Thanks again.

      Yeah I have actually grown to love autumn in Japan more than cherry blossom season! Generally the pretty areas are much less crowded than in sakura season (though still popular), and it feels so nice as the air is cooling down a little. Those sound like good spots - Nikko is a nice autumn spot about 2 hours from Tokyo for a day trip if you fancy. Let me know if there is anything else you want to know, or would like to see a video about! Otherwise, I hope you have a great trip!

    I tried to make them today.. I don't know what did i do wrong, but mine wasn't that bubbly, but stiff/dense .... can it be because I did them on the pan (not in the pot) ?

    • @cassandra_lord
      @cassandra_lord 2 місяці тому

      Oh no! That sounds like your yeast might have been dead. The mixture should already be kind of bubbly before you pour it. It also could be that your conditions were too cold when you left the mixture for 15-30 minutes. In that time the yeast needs to work its magic, so it needs to be left in a relatively warm space (if the weather is 15 degrees or colder where you are it may not rise) Some other things that could result in stiff mixture: - Overmixing (only mix until you can't see any patches of dry flour) - Not enough baking soda - Too much flour / very dry air conditions (you may need to add a little bit of water)
