“Road House (1989)" Throwback Thursday Review
Everybody in this movie was perfectly cast.!great movie I think and the remake was a waste of time.
I was working at a National Guard Armory on W.66th St. NYC, in 1969, one block away, when the 'shot', where "George" nearly gets hit with a manhole cover, happened! (If you look closely, you can see an Army jeep, that just left our Armory)! Also, the Cleveland Airport is actually L.I.'s MacArthur Airport! Great little movie, with a great cast!
Interesting were you watching as they filmed? Also "George" (Jack Lemmon) was actually injured by that manhole but kept acting, what actors did back then for their craft.
The murderer was Luis Encines.
It's a critical hit with 94 on Rotten tomatoes....
Yep, and that's why "Alien" is quite re-watchable on UA-cam as new viewers "board the 'Nostromo.";) Not bad for a "limited to practical EFX," 40-year-old movie that makes current CGI-drenched works look Cheap, by comparison.
My favorite western of all time great cast and the greatest score of any movie period
One of the most underrated hidden gem movies maybe ever in cinema history. Honestly it’s been almost 10 years since the release of Beyond The Lights, and I’ve yet to see another film of a romantic drama genre come anywhere near this masterpiece since. I watched it 4 times in the theater in 2014. It never gets old. Each time I watch it, I get something new out of it. Director Gina Prince Bythewood is a genius. Between this, Love And Basketball, The Secret Life Of Bees and most recently The Old Guard and The Woman King, Gina is really one of the most underrated directors in Hollywood today. And the acting of Gugu Mbatha Raw, Minnie Driver and Nate Parker was Oscar Worthy. Gugu in particular should have became a huge movie star after this but while she’s done a lot of TV and film work since, she’s never really taken off and became a leading A list level headliner, as talented as she is
You can shove your narration up your ass!
John Finn was 1st to receive navy Medal of Honor in WW2 Pearl Harbor Dec 7 1941 I got to accompany dear John back to Wash DC for WW2 dedication
I really want to see this, McAvoy is a great actor.
@TheReelDealFilmReviews if you enjoy it, I suggest seeking the original for a sort of alternative ending.
Actually three recordings were made, the third one.being for the real McCall album
This is a great movie. It is hard to believe that it is 23 years old. Good synopsis/review.
The movie was actually pretty decent and kept me at the edge until near the end where the plot just got so convoluted for the sake of forcing in a "twist". The Butcher escaping not once, not twice, not thrice but FOUR FREAKING TIMES is just beyond absurd and ridiculous and add nothing to the suspension but take away from it.
@unrealsimon93 The ending..yes, it felt as if 4 writers had endings, and they said let's just put them all in to please the writers
I felt like the movie just wants to promote the music career of Lady Ravens actor but movie is ok 7.5/10
1933? What about 1931?
At the end I said "Dracula from 1933" but I meant "Dracula from 1931", as I had mentioned at the beginning of the review. Glad you caught that which means you watched till the end, Thank you for that
How Can i get thé movie please ?
@@andrepierre5108 there is a link in the description to buy it from amazon
Need an editor?
No, but thanks for offering
~Eastwood Didn't Direct it....Warner BROs!
@Pablo113 officially to the credits he only directed one scene the jumper but he and Don Siegel are said to have directed together. Warner bros funded the movie but didn't direct the film.
Stupid as hell
No legend? No traduction?
You forgot that Terry Funk who calls Sam "Dad" is 7 yrs older than him!😂
Once you find out facts like that you can't see the film any other way LOL
stupid review
Did this review say "other dancer with the scarf" instead of naming Cyd Charisse?
I didn't say "other dancer with scarf" I said "other dancers" then i followed up by talked about Cyd Charisse scarf dance number, but I forgot to mention her name my mistake. Time stamp 3m32s
A classic film adaptation of a groundbreaking musical play!

The Review missed many of the Freudian/Jungian Subtle Nuances. This is a great movie (9/10 for me) as it deals with a complex and dangerous topic. The main actor and actress were well deep into their characters and gave outstanding performances in difficult roles.
Thanks for your comment. Would you care to give some examples "of the Freudian/Jungian Subtle Nuances" in the film. Also, if you want to elaborate more on the other two points you stated. Just want to allow you put your points out for others to read, I would gladly pin your comment so others can read it.
You enjoyed the film with the added soundtrack than without? Is there a non-soundtrack version?
I meant the film benefited from the soundtrack vs other films that have the soundtrack but doesn't compliment it. Sorry could have explained it a bit more i guess
Yes it does happen in real life
Yes, it does, i've seen the cases on television. I just felt that they didn't approach the subject in the film with sensitivity like they should have. The comment i said was meant to sound like it was coming from the studio making the film
@@salandpalsgotothemovies8052 I haven’t seen the movie yet, I’d rather wait till it comes out on streaming services. I have been reading the screenplay which is available online. It’s interesting.
Their version would have been boring. The actual movie was action packed and is deemed a classic.
Best film
Why not do those things you mentioned? Because it never happened. What was actually left out was that Joes mother died when he was three. He was sent to a relative to live. Then he went back to his dad and the new wife and kids. The new wife didn’t want Joe with them. Then he was abandoned again at ten and again at 14. He had to forage for food. The background of Joe Rantz could have made it more important that he won a Gold Medal. He was my father in law. My son is his grandson. So I knew him. And Joyce. The movie did let us know the boys were poor and that Joe had been abandoned, but we would have liked to see more on his background. George Clooney said he was trying to keep the movie to two hours so that restricted what he could show. Also the whole thing did not take place in the year 1936. They rowed for two or three years before the boys who went on to win Gold were solidified as the ones who would be The Crew. The real story is more unbelievable and underdog than it even showed. But the tensions built up with the races made it exciting and these boys were all underdogs, trying to survive and trying to win, in crew and in life.
See i would have liked if they touched upon his background then it would have shown where he started and then went to win gold. The fact that i mentioned stuff that didn't happen was cause just like in the movie George Clooney for the last race he made it a photo finish which never happened at all. So as you can see movies don't hesitate to bend things for the "benefit" of the movie. Which I said i rather see their beginning to get more of a feel of their journey. But thanks for sharing your connection to Joe
Yes it was a very close finish, “instead of a photo to reveal the winner, the judges had to deliberate for a few minutes to determine the placements of each team. Brown said, "It was an extremely close finish, and no one knew who had won. There were photos taken (by spectators) of that finish, but I don't have any reason to think they took a photo to determine who won.” That worked for the film. They truly did get the worst lane and started late because they didn’t hear the starting gun go off from that lane. Still they won gold !
@@donnad1204 exactly
This is a Great movie.Dont listen to this guy he doesn’t have a clue. Go see the movie for yourself.
So if it was a great movie. Could you tell me if it was a comedy, a serious movie, a retelling, or a reimagining? Because i felt the movie didn't know what it was either.
@@salandpalsgotothemovies8052 it’s all in one the silly stuff in book one represents the nonchalant unproductive life of a person who doesn’t have their shit together. Sitting around getting high scheming, goofing off. Book 2 shows a man trying to find his purpose. Book 3 is the awakening so to speak he knows the truth and has found his purpose. It’s a great journey to redemption
@merrickbeaufort8048 Sorry, but i didn't see it that way. It's a bit too clustered from my POV. But hey, I am glad you made it work from your POV
The deeper meaning is sooo easy 😊. It’s a beautiful redemption story of a man who went for money only and not the right life . Then he realized money is nothing without compassion and he gave it all up . Then he beggar who received money all of a sudden turned into a bad person and cocky because of it. I sincerely ask how you missed this ? 💡
No, thats not the deeper meaning since we see Clarence use the money to free the slaves vs keep it to pay his debt, also we see him refuse to give up Jesus when he says he rather die then give him up to rome. If anything the redemption part is on the surface, but the beggar didn't turn cocky cause the money he went around sharing his riches which religion teaches on to do ao how is that cocky. When i asked about a deeper meaning is cause even in the trailer if you see it again it raises a question "How far would you go to prove you're not a nobody" it doesn't ask how to reach redemption.
I think that the boys were too young to experience fame, fortune and success too soon. I think that that is what killed them- not expectations from the Father-Fritz.
Best way to spread Christmas cheer is to watch Elf every year! I adore this movie. Will Ferrel is incredible, it is so funny and gets me in the Christmas spirit instantly. Merry Christmas!
It really is! Happy Belated Xmas
One thing puzzled me: Bella's father (Dafoe) had a Scottish accent, but Bella had an English accent.
Well you can see it two ways 1. Thats the humor in the film they have different accents even if they lived/grew up in the same house. Or 2. Due to the experiment, the baby (Bella) retained the mothers accent
can’t hear you…speak up!
Could be the compression on this video sorry about that
I really like your review/analysis of this beautiful movie. This film speaks to me on a level that I can't quite put into words. It consistently punches you in the gut and then soothing your pain as you watch Gilbert get pulled between thinking for himself and thinking for his family.
Watched this at 14 and 40. Big difference in outlook.
While I didn’t flat out love this movie, mostly from it being too long in my opinion. This was still a great movie. Loved the performances, especially DiCaprio and Gladstone, and the build up to the investigation (again, even if it took a little too much time to get there). I will not be surprised to see this win Oscars. And I think it certainly deserves to. Great review
Yes, its a great movie and some will see that but also say its too long. I agree with everything you said. Also glad you enjoyed the review
I also noticed the dialogue added in post, that felt like something that could have been better. Good review. I think it would be cool to make movie reviews in a story arc, almost like a movie reviewing a movie. Maybe starting with a take on the movie as a whole that makes the audience wonder how that could be, and then laying breadcrumbs throughout the review as supporting evidence to the end where it all stitches together.
The schtick of this movie did not get as tired as I was expecting. I actually ended up really liking the characters and found it quite funny. Not a classic by any means but a decent little comedy.
This movie was SO. BAD! But not gonna lie… I did find myself enjoying it a little bit. The first 2 acts are rough but I had fun with the end bit that we all came to see and some of the characters (DJ) made me laugh quite a bit. Overall I knew the schlocky mess I was going into and thats what I got.
Yea DJ did seem to understand what movie he was in and he did make me laugh as well, but I just wished the Octopus battle would have lasted a bit longer and we could have seen more Megalodon vs Giant Octopus fight
Can you Review Alabama Moon 2009 might like the Alabama Moon
Will added it to the list, thanks
