    The Kalam is a fallacy known as special pleading. If the universe began to exist, the principles therein began to exist and cannot be applied. You don't get to exempt causality from beginning to exist just because it suits your argument.

    • @thediamondminer4892
      @thediamondminer4892 10 днів тому

      @ScienceFoundation Could you explain where the special pleading is? I dont quite understand what you are saying.

    • @ScienceFoundation
      @ScienceFoundation 10 днів тому

      @@thediamondminer4892 Causality is a principle within the universe so if the universe began to exist, then the principle of causality also began to exist. You don't say gravity or the conservation of momentum applied prior to the universe existing. It makes no sense to try to apply causality.

    • @thediamondminer4892
      @thediamondminer4892 9 днів тому

      @@ScienceFoundation Their seems to be a confusion here. Things like Gravity and Conservation of Momentum are physical properties. They by definition can only exist with in a universe. Now things like Causation are metaphysical properties, they are not reliant on the universe to exist. It would seem weird to me to assert that only things in the universe have to have reasons for why they come into existence, whereas the Universe itself (which is made up of the same things as those in the universe, space, time, matter, ect.) doesnt.

    • @ScienceFoundation
      @ScienceFoundation 9 днів тому

      @@thediamondminer4892 Do you have an example of a cause and effect that does not rely on matter and energy? Otherwise, that's just ad hoc rationalization.

    • @thediamondminer4892
      @thediamondminer4892 9 днів тому

      @@ScienceFoundation Ad hoc is when someone is making more assumptions then needed in order to explain something. But either way, it is not on me to disprove you. Your position is that the Universe came into existence from nothing, due to nothing. That is your argument. What is your proof? Why should we believe that this is possible?

    Loved this episode! Very thought provoking. Regarding the question of Paul having social media, I think that Paul’s letters in the New Testament already relate to many of the issues in popular media right now. If we’re being specific, however, I think you guys nailed some of the really big issues (Church unity and good theology, masculinity, gender roles, etc.). Aside from the topics mentioned above, plus issues of homosexuality (Romans 1, 1 Cor. 6, etc), I would also add the topic of Christian-Jewish relations to that list. This should be a fairly obvious one given his deep concern for the Jewish people throughout Romans (Romans 9:3, for instance). Paul, was a learned Jew who studied under the feet of Gamaliel (Acts 22:3), an esteemed Jewish teacher, and had a deep understanding of the Jewish scriptures. I think we as Christians often forget just how Jewish Paul really was, which I understand. After all, he was “the Apostle to the gentiles.” Even many modern Jews (and ancient Jews) viewed Paul as a Greek gentile because of his “gentile faith” (after a while, followers of the Jewish Messiah, Jesus, were predominantly gentile peoples.) Anyway, going back to my point, Paul would likely speak a lot about both ethnic and religious Jews (especially since many modern Jewish sects seem to resemble the predominant Jewish parties during the time of Jesus.) Plus, the conflict in Israel with Hamas right now would likely motivate Paul to speak even more fervently. Moving on, just imagine Paul as a modern apologist…that would be awesome! Even if we suppose that Paul wouldn’t be familiar with modern science, history, and philosophy, he would still be an insane apologist and would likely give some profound insight into modern objections to Christianity (like Epicurean or even more modern versions of the “Problem of Evil” argument, which he may relate to Romans 9:20-21.) I think we can all agree, as even many non Christians have, that Paul was a philosopher of the first class. In fact, there is a fascinating article on Paul’s use of Greek philosophy, which I read. There are actually a lot of articles on this topic and even some books, but this article, which I will link, presents a lot: https:biblethingsinbibleways.wordpress.com/2013/07/14/paul-and-his-use-of-greek-philosophy/ Regarding George’s Christian struggle and Paul in Romans 7, you (and most people) seem to take the Augustinian interpretation, which Martin Luther popularized (and, I guess, Cliffe adheres to as well). This may also relate to the topic of Paul having social media. Perhaps Paul would clarify what he meant in Romans 7. I myself am not really sold on the later Augustinian or “Christian Struggle” interpretation of Romans 7. However, I’m also not fully committed to the older “Ademic Nature” interpretation of Romans 7 either. This part of Romans may be an area of interpretation where you and I may disagree. However, this was certainly interesting to listen to and hear your perspectives on. The Augustinian view certainly is the more personal and relatable view to adhere to. Continuing with George’s struggle, I was very glad to hear him understand the goodness of the Gospel, magnified by human evil. George calls humans “trash,” which may suit some positions of hamartiology more than others (maybe the “T” in the Calvinist T.U.L.I.P 🤷. I’m not too sure). In any case, I understand the discomfort with calling humans “trash” (because we are still made in God’s image and loved by Him). Yet, the Bible does use pretty harsh language in regards to human depravity (not necessarily “total” lol) and human works. For example, there’s Isaiah 64:6-8, which, specifically in verse 6, uses very crude language for the “filth” of our “good works.” I suggest checking different translations and looking at the Hebrew text or seeing what the NET Full Notes Edition says, if you have that particular Bible. I, personally, have used this language and, specifically, the term “trash” to refer to myself in my own sin. Regarding Levi’s reflections on God’s justice in 54:19, I think Jerry nails it at 54:48, where he says “His dealing with sin is perfectly Just.” In the Atonement, when Christ was crucified, all attributes of God were on maximal display. We had broken God’s laws and were required to satisfy God’s wrath (which we can’t). Yet, God satisfied His wrath by putting it on Jesus (wrath). In doing so, because someone took on our punishment, justice was served (justice). And, because it wasn’t us who was punished, we did not get something that we did deserve (mercy.) In God’s showing of mercy, we received a gift that we didn’t deserve; a gift of salvation and eternal life (grace). This was all done for our sake because God wishes none to perish; 1 Tim. 2:4-6 (love). The atonement was the epitome of all these attributes, which correspond to the very essence of who God is; the one true perfect, omnibenevolent, Triune God. I’m so glad that George is growing in his faith and developing the heart of a servant; the heart of one who wants to serve God. It’s important for us, who may be struggling with our walk with God, to continue to grow and serve Him. Like you guys said, we are not good enough, but with God we can do what the impossible (Matthew 19:25-26) It’s important to grow in our relationship with God for both ourselves and those in our sphere of influence. We should strive to “smell” (2 Cor. 2:15 and Philippians 4:18) like we are under the influence…of Jesus.
