Suzuki Sv1000 flywheel swap
I replaced the flywheel in my Suzuki Sv1000s.
Most of the magnets had come off the flywheel and two were completely disintegrated resulting in magnet dust all through the engine.
This is a common problem.
Prior to installing the new flywheel I used a JB weld style metal epoxy (high temp, oil resistant) and filled the gaps between the magnets on the new flywheel.
In theory this should stop the magnets from moving even if they detach from the flywheel

John Clarke discusses the RAAF seasprite helicopters grounding
You do not know how many Google searches it took for me to find the name of this movie. One of the funniest punch lines without saying a word in a movie 🍿
Such a spectacular explosion sound.
What a joke.
RAN Helicopters. Not RAAF.
Thanks for the video! I was looking at the service manual and it wasn't clear just how much of the hub/spindle assembly I needed to take apart just to get to the cush rubbers.
Glad it was helpful for you. All the best for your work. Only thing i can really say is unstake the main nut prior then make sure to stake it again after torquing it up again. And a very strong rattle gun is basically a necessity to get it off. This is my second bike I've done this job on. First time i basically tried every other method and found it impossible to remove.
@@DeadlyWimp I'm stuck at that point right now as it happens! The staked section has been butchered by previous owners and I can't get a tool in there to lift it. I've just bought a 2ft breaker bar as well but by the sounds of it that isn't going to be man enough for the job... today is going to be fun!
@@RikkyTang I'm pretty sure the manuals advise to not reuse the nut (but i have with no issues) I'd say if it can't be unstaked to rattle gun off and replace with new OEM one when reassembling. If you don't have a strong enough impact gun perhaps try a local workshop to just rattle it off which will then unstake it anyway. If riding there just tighten up and try again with it unstaked at home or if trailered should be fine. Only a 2 second job so you may not even get charged for it
@@DeadlyWimp Thanks for all your advice Jezza - I have good news! Just for the hell of it I tried the breaker bar on the hub nut and it gave away almost immediately! What a relief, even better the cush rubbers look like they had been replaced before because they are in good condition. I will be ordering a replacement nut in any case because this one has had it. About time I had some luck with this bike 😊
@@RikkyTang nice. Probably the reason it gave way was that it had been changed previously. Glad it was easier than my initial mucking around. Both mine were original so had been torqued up for 30 years or so
Do you have to drain the clutch to open the flywheel?
Do you mean the engine oil or the hydraulic clutch? If you mean engine oil then it would pay to drain especially if contaminated with magnet. But you can access the stator if you rest the bike leaning to the right hand side If you mean clutch fluid. No you don't have to drain it but would recommend pushing piston back slightly so it doesn't fall out and makes reinstalling a little easier.
Do you know the torque specs for the flywheel bolt?
140Nm, 14kg-m, 101ftlb
Same thing happened to me thanks for the video
