Fantastic! The 1st method of resetting the cartridge with the LCD interface worked with 3 of the cartridges. For the 4th cartridge I followed the 2nd method of resetting the wheel of the “bought” cartridge. That did the trick. Many thanks!

Thank you so much for this video. After I refilled the printer still thinks that the cartridge is empty. You need to reset the cartridge data ;) Open the front cover of the printer (to access cartridges). With the cover open, simultaneously press the Clear and Stop/Exit buttons. It may take several tries for this to work and for "K.TNR-STD" to appear onscreen. Scroll through the menu to select a color and yield to reset. The LCD will read "Accepted" once the reset is complete.

Jan 2024 not working for me on this printer. I suspect Brother have done some kind of update to prevent this?

I used to use an Epson ET-2550 ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 , an early model of the ink tank style. It worked well, but had one nuisance that drove me up the wall; if you didn't put it in high quality print mode you'd get a streak across the page. I'm happy to say I have yet to see this with this printer. The print quality has been fantastic so far, the set up was super easy. All in all I'm very happy with this printer.

Still a good choice in 2023?

Thank u so much! I've reseted all my toners once a few years ago, and I was like "hey, why doesn't the method work any longuer?" I disabled the FW update search for posterity (I'm on FW 1.60), I opened the black toner first and found a spring and reset wheel. I did reset it, and then installed the same black plastic cap on the C, then on M, then on Y (all 3 didn't have the spring/wheel), so all 4toners are reset :)

There is actually a real technical reason for the toner cartridge to not be completely empty when done. In toner technology, the best toner particles are chosen first by the developer roller, so if you reset the toner, the powder left in the cartridge is of worse quality. I am in no way affiliated with any printer manufacturer. I still believe that printer companies are doing a lot of things to make even more money on you, but this is at least partially a technical reason, not necessarily just a way to make more money.

Nice video. Some printer models will recognize a toner end condition soon after the reset (hardware wise) so you might to reset again or block the light barrier or swap the toner. You should choose the last option if you notice quality issues that will occure if there's not enough toner powder inside the cartridge to cover the entire toner roller surface (something you can inspect visually, too). I wouldn't recommend to "overdo" it (like ignoring quality problems) because if the toner roller isn't coated with toner you'll increase the wear of the OPC drum surface.

Is it possible to manually scan wirelessly i.e, receive scan image on the PC without the use of a cable ?

I'm looking to buy a colour laser where I will do mostly black/white (B&W) with occasional colour printing. If I want to do only B&W printing can I install only the black toner or other toners have to be present at the same time?
